Chapter 93

00:51, 2 June 2014

“Lucy?” Conor breaks the silence as we unpack our suitcase into our room.

“What?” I sigh, hanging up a coat.

“Are you mad at me?”

“Yes” I tell him the truth. He’s gone mad at me for sorting things out with Ben, of course I’m mad at him.

“I’m sorry” he sighs. “You just know how I feel about him”

“Yeah, I’ve heard it all before” I mumble. He has an excuse for everything.

“So are we good?”

“Nope” I say monotonously.

“I’m really sorry. Can we just leave it?” he asks but I choose to ignore him. “Lucy, please. It’s New Year’s Day” he pouts.

“You brought this on yourself” I almost whisper. I’m surprised he actually hears me.

“I know baby, and I’m so sorry. I love you” he sighs, running his fingers through his hair.

“Mhm” I turn away from him and he moans, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind me and spinning me around, making me squeal.

“I’m sorry” he smirks, holding my face in his hands. I smile in amusement and rest my hands on his chest. He immediately pulls me into him and starts kissing me passionately.

“We’ve been here for twenty minutes” I hear Eleanor at the bedroom door. I pull away from the kiss and snap my head towards the door, seeing Eleanor and Jack stood there staring in disgust.

“What do you want?” I moan.

“To go snowboarding” Jack says as if it’s obvious.

“Yeah, we’ll be five minutes” Conor frowns.

“We’re gonna go buy our ski clothes so are you coming?” Eleanor asks.

“Yeah, alright” I nod. Conor moans and I laugh slightly. I put on my converse because they’re the only shoes I have, and we all make our way to the shop to buy our clothes.

“I want these” Eleanor gasps, picking up a pair of thick purple gloves. “Lucy, you get pink and I’ll get purple” she laughs and I shrug, picking up pink. I find some white pants and a pink jacket with a white stripe on the sleeve. I pick up some white boots, a snowboard and pink tinted goggles and take everything to the till.

After paying and putting on all our stuff, we finally get to go skiing. I refused to get a helmet because I know I won’t need it and it’ll just piss me off. I just put up my fluffy hood and start walking through the resort with Conor, Eleanor and Jack, while Matt and Dad trail behind.

“Lucy, where’s your helmet?” Dad frowns.

“I didn’t get one” I shrug.

“Lucy!” he gasps. “You need to wear a helmet. If you fall, you’ll have some serious injuries”

“It’s only snow, it won’t hurt” I frown. It’ll feel like I’m falling on clouds...

“He’s right. You need a helmet, Luce” Conor butts in and I groan in frustration. “I’ll take Lucy back to get one, we’ll catch up with you all”

“Alright” Dad nods, and me and Conor turn back around and head to the shop.

“I don’t need one” I sigh.

“We’re not arguing about this” he chuckles.

After buying a pink helmet, me and Conor start walking to the main ski area. We’ve decided to go snowboarding today rather than skiing, mainly because we all want to race each other down the biggest hill.

“I feel like a dickhead” I sigh, complaining about my helmet for like, the tenth time in the past five minutes.

“You look like one” Conor smirks and I roll my eyes.

“Such a great boyfriend” I say sarcastically and he starts laughing.

“I’m sorry baby, you look perfect”

“Aw, babe” I tease and he rolls his eyes.

We stand at the top of one of the hills and look down at the whole resort. It looks absolutely amazing. All the slopes lead to one big one so it’s kind of in a tree shape, and everyone’s little log cabins surround the place. There are so many trees between each slope and the top of all the log cabins are coated in one foot deep snow.

“The houses look so cute” Conor coos and I raise my eyebrow in amusement.

“Since when did you start describing things as cute?” I smirk.

“I don’t” he frowns, caught off guard. “They look like Santa’s grotto though” he chuckles and I roll my eyes.

“Come on, we need to find everyone” I grab his hand and pull him further through the resort.

“Lucy!” Eleanor shouts. I snap my head to the side and see her and Jack stood at the end of a hill waving at us. I wave back and walk over to them with Conor. “We haven’t been down yet” she tells us.

“Let’s go then” I smile and we trod over to the ski lift that leads to the highest hill. “Are we actually doing this? We haven’t even been down one hill yet and we’re going to the top”

“Don’t be so scared. At least now we’ll be professionals from the start” Eleanor winks and I chuckle slightly. “I’m shitting it though to be honest”

“Way to make me feel better” I say sarcastically. I’m literally terrified looking down from the ski lift. These things are lethal.

We get to the top and I quickly jump off the lift.

“Are we racing?” Jack smirks and I nod with excitement. We all look down the steep hill.

“I don’t think I can do it” Eleanor panics.

“Don’t be such a pussy” Conor says, pushing her slightly.

“Get off me!” she squeals and he starts laughing.

“Hey guys, are you alright?” a young girl asks, walking over to us. I can tell by her uniform that she works here.

She has long brown ombre hair, similar to mine but more of a vibrant blonde at the tips. She wears a tiny bit of make-up and looks so so pretty. She’s about the same height as me, maybe taller and is really slim. Her bright blue eyes and her perfect teeth stand out when she smiles and I think it’s safe to say that I’m seriously jealous of this girl.

“Eleanor’s shitting it” Conor says in all seriousness and I give him a glare for his use of words in front of the employee.

“Have you ever snowboarded before?” she frowns.

“No. Jack made us come to the top so we could race” I point at Jack and he gasps, making the girl laugh.

“You’ll be fine, honestly. It looks scary but you won’t even think about it when you’re going down. You just need to keep your balance” she smiles widely. “Put your boards on”

We all follow her instructions and attach the board to our feet.

“Okay, who’s the bravest?” she asks.

“Me!” we all say in sync.

“Well the bravest one can go down first”

“Jack, you’re the bravest” Eleanor admits and we all agree.

“What the fuck? No I’m not!”

“You just said you were” I giggle.

“We all did!” he gasps. “Conor should go”

“Jack, grow some balls and just go” Conor frowns.

“Once one of you goes down, you’ll all want a go. Trust me” the person working here tells us. We’re literally the only people at the top of this hill right now.

“Right, I’ll go” Jack sighs and we all cheer. The girl quickly gives Jack a run through of what and what not to do and he soon snowboards down the hill, screaming the entire way down. He ends up falling half way down but he quickly gets back up and makes his way to the bottom.

“Who’s next?” the girl asks.

“Me!” I smile confidently.

“Okay, like I just told your friend, you just have to sway on your feet to keep balance. The chances are, you will fall but as long as you’re wearing your helmet, you’ll be fine. When you fall, just get back up and snowboard to the bottom. If you’re in any pain, just give me a quick wave and I’ll come down to help you” she explains and I nod.

“Thank you” I smile.

I turn to the side and tip myself over the hill so I slide down. I feel like I’m going about 50mph right now and the feeling of this is so thrilling. It’s not as difficult as I expected it to be, mainly because I’m just going in a straight line right now but by the end of the week, I’ll be professional. My board leans too far to the left and I end up falling onto my back. I start laughing and just get up and snowboard to the end of the hill where I see Jack grinning widely.

“That was amazing!” I gasp, practically falling into Jack at the bottom of the hill. He starts laughing and holds me up for balance. I take my board of my feet and we head back up to the top of the hill for round 2.

“You’re back!” the worker laughs. “This hill usually scares most people off but I don’t think I’ve ever had people come straight up here on their first go”

“Hear that, Lucy? We’re original” Jack nods proudly and I roll my eyes.

“Where’s Conor and Eleanor?” I ask her.

“They’ve just gone down so they should be up anytime soon”

“Were they good?” Jack frowns.

“They fell but were pretty impressive” she nods approvingly and Jack groans.

“What’s your name by the way?” I ask her.

“Lily” she smiles.

“I’m Lucy and this is Jack” I return the smile.

“Are you a couple?” she coos and we both pull a disgusted face.

“No” I giggle. “I’m with his brother” I wink at Jack and he rolls his eyes.

“Oh, is that the other boy you were with?” Lily asks and I nod.

“He’s called Conor and the other girl is Eleanor”

“So are you and Eleanor together?” she asks Jack and he moans.

“No way” he shakes his head and Lily starts laughing.

“Speak of the devil” she smirks and I turn around to see Conor and Eleanor walking towards us.

“What?” Conor frowns.

“Nothing” me, Jack and Lily say in sync.

“Let’s race!” Jack changes the subject. We all speed down the hill at the same time and after falling over numerous times, Conor wins the race.

“You all owe me a tenner” he smirks in satisfaction.

“Hell no” I frown, turning my back to him and heading towards the ski lift again. Once we’re back at the top of the hill, we see Lily smiling in amusement at us all.

“What?” Eleanor asks.

“Nothing,” she laughs “I just didn’t think you’d be back up here a third time”

“We’re survivors” Jack says in all seriousness.

“You know what you should do?” Lily gasps.

“What?” we all say in sync.

“Every Saturday, the resort gets together and watches the snowboarding competition. Basically, you have to make a team of four people and perform your best snowboarding tricks and there’s judges there and an audience. It’s a huge event and I think that you four should do it” she explains. Oh my god, never...

“No way” Eleanor says my thoughts.

“Why not? You’ve come up to the highest hill three times on your first go! You’re definitely confident enough”

“But we don’t know any skills. We fell over about five times in that race” Jack frowns. There’s absolutely no way we are entering this competition.

“I’ll teach you! I’ll spend tomorrow through to Saturday training you for it” she smiles widely.

“I doubt we can learn any tricks in four days. Besides, there are way better snowboarders than us. We have no chance of winning. We’d just be embarrassing ourselves” I sigh.

“Will you hell! I believe you can all do it if you set your minds to it. There are no professionals here anyway. It’s just a bit of entertainment for the resort really so it doesn’t even matter if you mess up because the chances are, all the other teams will. Come on guys, I really want to see you win” Lily begs. I want to do it but we’ll never ever learn any tricks in four days.

“Well, are you going to be training us?” Conor asks.

“Yes, definitely! I have nothing better to be doing” she shrugs.

“I’m not sure” Jack frowns.

“The prize is five hundred pounds”

“We’re in!” we all say in sync. Wow, we’ve been snowboarding for half an hour and we’re already entering a snowboarding competition. We’re humiliating ourselves but like she said, it’s just a bit of fun. I’ll probably regret not entering it.

“Yes!” she jumps in the air slightly and we all laugh. “Now all you need is a team name...”
