Chapter One. Enter: Maki Hatake

11:07, 26 December 2013

Hi guys! So this is my first Naruto fan fic! I'm really excited to be writing this, I love Naruto so much c: I hope you guys will like it too! So basically, this is Maki Hatake's story in Naruto. The story's plot shouldn't be too different, it'll follow Naruto's story line MOSTLY, though in Maki's point of view. Some things I will change up though. So, comment, vote, like! Suggestions are always helping. I love reading your guys' comments, they really are motivating (:

Prologue

I always heard stories about the nine-tailed fox and how it almost destroyed the hidden leaf village. Then the fourth hokage came in and rescued the village, sacrificing his own life in the process, to seal the fox's spirit into a baby boy. His name was Naruto Uzumaki. I know the stories are forbidden to tell, but like my parent's always told me. What someone doesn't know won't hurt them.

My parent's never hid anything from me. They started telling me things like that as soon as they knew I could understand what they were saying.

Yeah, they loved me. But they wanted me to be the best of the best.

I was holding Kunai at 2 and at the age of 3, I could throw multiple kunai and shuriken with such accuracy, no one would expect out of a girl my age to be able to.

When I was three my dad implanted a red eye into my left eye socket. He told me it would help me in the future, and that he would teach me how to activate it as soon as i was ready to learn.

We lived in the forest somewhere, not a hidden village, not a city or state. Just, out there somewhere.

My parents always encouraged me in my training and studies. I had my head in books and scrolls at the age of 3 and a half.

My dad acted as if every day was his last, and that i had to learn possibly everything he could teach me before he died.

And hard training became harder when dad found out that i had the 3 unique combined chakra types that he had: Wind, lightning and water.

I mastered a couple of forbidden jutsu along with some B and A ranked Jutsu by the time i was 6.

I knew basic medical ninjutsu too. Hell, dad made sure i even knew a couple of sealing jutsu.

His excuse was always 'blah blah you were born with an unnaturally huge amount of chakra blah blah take advantage of that blah blah blah'

My childhood was jutsu, jutsu and more jutsu. I never understood why dad was so forceful with that stuff. I just wanted to be a normal kid for once.

I suppose if i went to the nearest town, i'd be what they call a 'prodigy'. Dad and Mom always stated how proud they were of me for mastering jounin level jutsu and chakra control at my age.

I was a black belt in karate by the age of 7. Honestly, by age 7, i didn't know what else i COULD master.

That's when my dad taught me how to activate my red eye. He told me it was called the 'sharingan', a kekkei genkai of the Uchiha clan. I didn't ask how he got it, i was a good little daddy's girl. I always did what dad told me, never questioning anything, but always wondering why he was training me to be a killing machine.

I activated my eyes, then dad taught me how to use chakra to control the appearance of my eye. Don't ask me how, but when i hold a certain amount of chakra, concentrating it into the area of my left eye, i can conceal my sharingan, and the eye turns normal. But as soon as i release the chakra, my sharingan appears and i have the ability to use it again.

After months, holding the chakra around my left eye became second nature. I didn't even have to think about it to do it.

I asked dad about our family once. Apparently my grandfather killed himself. He was known as The White Fang. Very famous Throughout the five great nations.

I had an Uncle too, Kakashi. But my dad never mentioned him much. He looked jealous and bitter whenever the name was brought up.

So I'm guessing he inherited most of White Fang's skills.

His good looks, too, Dad once said.

Maybe that's why they don't have the best relationship. Maybe that's why dad is pushing me so hard in my training.

So basically, i owe my ruined childhood to Kakashi Hatake.

I mean, don't get me wrong. I don't hate my uncle. I've never met him so i can't. But i don't exactly like the guy.

And i never dreamed that i would be living with him...

Chapter One. Enter: Maki Hatake

currently: 9 years old

I sprinted swiftly up the massive hill, looking forward to my house at the very top. Morning runs through the forest with a weighted back pack was part of my morning routine. Dad said that it would help my endurance/stamina and help me to run faster. Speed was an important aspect in Ninja training. Dad stressed about it a lot and increased the weight size with age.

Normally Dad goes on these runs with me, but today he wouldn't wake up so i decided to let him sleep in and run by myself.

I stopped at the top of my house and slid the weight bag off my shoulders. I took a moment to catch my breath, before i went into my push-ups. Like I said, Physical training is most important in the ninja world.

I did roughly 720 push-ups before i could no longer feel my arms. I wasn't a taijutsu freak (A/N sorry lee (; hahaha ) So I didn't really need to go into the thousands with my push-ups.

I did squats and other muscle strengthening activities, then worked on my jutsu.

I've mastered the ripping torrent jutsu, the water prison jutsu, the raging wave jutsu, water transformation(c), the hidden mist jutsu and the water sword jutsu. I think the only one i need to learn now was the water dragon jutsu, but i'm having a particularly hard time with that one.

That's just my water jutsu. Then again, i don't really use my lightning and wind style chakra. There aren't many good jutsu that associate with that. The only ones I can think of are my uncle's chidori (Lighting style) and The fourth hokage's rasengan (Wind style) and my dad doesn't know both of those. So I can't learn and master them. I knew basic wind and lightning style jutsu but none that was really of importance.

And of course I learned the substitution and transformation jutsu. I'll let you in on a secret. Dad taught me the Shadow Clone jutsu, one of the forbidden jutsu that i've learned. It's forbidden because it uses up so much chakra, but I find it pretty easy. I guess i WAS born with a lot of chakra, just like dad said.

I practiced my Water dragon jutsu for a while and came back inside the house. My parents still weren't up, huh? Guess i'd better check on them.

I walked up the stairs and to the left where my parent's bedroom was. It was dark inside so i flipped the lights on. And gasped.

My parents were laying in bed. Dead, blood covering their bodies and soaked in the blankets. I was about to scream when a hand covered my mouth. "One move and you're dead." A menacing voice whispered into my ear. I could barely nod, petrified. Another one came into my sight. He wore a black coat with red clouds. "The akatsuki." I whispered barely.

Dad had told me about this group, their main goal being world domination. I never thought I'd actually get to see them in person, much less be practically a hostage.

"I can't find it. He must have hidden it somewhere."

"It's not here. Let's check out the other places."

What were they talking about? Were they looking for something?

"What about the girl?"

"We can't just leave her here. She'll talk"

"About what? All of us are already S-rank criminals."

"Right. Good point."

If i weren't in my enemy's hands, i just might have rolled my eyes at the guy's stupidity.

"Just leave her. She might come in handy later."

Then i felt something hit my head hard, and everything slowly faded away into blackness.

***

I woke up in a bed that wasn't mine. It was bright. Ugh, white lights. Reminded me of the hospital. Wait, where am i? I sat up groggily and checked out my surroundings.

Looked like i WAS in a hospital room. Wow, i'd never been in a hospital before. There weren't any near our house in the forest. So where was I?

"Oh! I see you're awake, finally! Hatake..Maki, right?" I looked at the nice looking woman, i presume she's a nurse.

I nodded slowly. "Uhm, yes ma'am. Do you mind telling me where I am?"

"You're in the Konoha Hospital of course! Dreadful incident really. Do you remember anything at all?"

I thought for a second.

"My.. my parents are dead. The Akatsuki. They killed my parents."

And I fainted.

**

I woke up to two voices. One was quite old, the other one sounded around the age my dad was if not younger. I kept my eyes closed and listened in on their conversation.

"..chiha was brought in around the same time Maki was last week. Itachi, his own brother, killed his whole clan. Including their parents." The younger voice said.

"Yes, i... She's awake." The older guy said.

Huh? How did he know that... I opened my eyes.

"Breathing Patterns." The old man chuckled.

"Did I say that out loud?" I asked.

He nodded and smiled at me kindly.

"I am the third hokage. And this young man over here is-"

"Kakashi Hatake." I finished.

He looked younger than dad, with gray hair styled perfectly to the side. I have to find out how he does that...

He was a little above average on the height, lean and i can see what dad meant when he said Kakashi inherited The White Fang's good looks.

He looked serious, as if he  couldn't care less about what was going on around him, but i knew better than to underestimate a child of The White Fang. I mean, I'm his grand daughter, look how I turned out.

"Well, uh. Hi, I guess you already know. I'm Kakashi. You're going to be staying with me from now on. I know it's a bit inconvenient, but you can't live on your own in a desert place in the middle of the forest, you're 9 years old. And you're my older brother's kid, I have to take care of you."

blah blah blah.

"That's great." I probably cut him off on what ever he was saying. It's not like i always have attitude, but i wanted to test his limits.

"When am i getting out of here?" I asked The third.

"Uh , well. i'd say another day or two and you'll be good as new."

"WHAT, BUT I'M AWAKE. I'M FINE. SEE?!" How was i supposed to manage two days in here. doing nothing. I'd already wasted about a week of training.

"I don't want to hear it, Maki Hatake." Kakashi said.

"Oh, who made you the parent around here" i asked, attitude in my voice.

"These paper's that say i'm your legal guardian." He replied calming.

Darn, looks like i wasn't getting to him. I'll have to try harder.

"Great, fine. Now can you guys leave, I want to be by myself for a while."

They looked at me concerned for a moment, then decided that i would be fine and left.

Action time.

I jumped out of bed and ran over to the window. Hm, i'd say a two story fall. No problem.

I materialized the water vapor in the air and rotated it so that when i climbed on it i wouldn't fall. Slowly, i lowered myself down till i was on my feet again.

I hit ground and took off, running on the streets of Konoha like a rebel.

I eventually stopped, not knowing where i was going, and turned around the corner to wear a boy was doing graffitti on a wall. A fellow rebel i see, eh?

I watched as the someone came at him, yelling and what not for the graffitti. I laughed. What i wasn't expecting was the awful way i saw them look at him. Like he was a disease that no one wanted around. They said things about him, and he responded. "Shut up all of you, don't look at me like that. I'm going to be Hokage someday and all of you will respect me. believe it!" and then he ran in my direction.

My eyes widened as i saw him come towards me. I turned around, pretending like i didn't see that, and started to walk away, when someone fell on top of me and i fell.

It was the graffitti boy. "I-I'm sorry, I wasn't looking and-"

"It's fine." I smiled kindly at the boy who had tears in his eyes. "I'm Maki Hatake. What's your name?"

He smiled at me. "I'm Naruto. Naruto Uzumaki, believe it!"

I laughed at his cheesy expression. So this was Naruto Uzumaki, host of the Nine tails. He wasn't as bad as i thought he would be. No wonder all those people were staring at him like that, and talking about him in such a negative way.

No matter. No one deserves to be treated like that.

"Well Naruto, I'm new in town. I need a new friend and a new partner in crime. Would you mind-"

"Sure! Have you been to Ichiraku? They have the BEST ramen ever. Come on, I'll take you!"

He was such a happy person to be around, it was hard not to feel inspired whenever i was with Naruto. If people just took the time to get to know him, no one would treat him like they did, i realized.

"So Naruto, you're enrolled in The academy?" I asked. He was nine too, right?

"Believe it!" That phrase was so catchy. I better watch it, or I might start saying it too.

"You live by yourself?" I asked. And everything turned serious.

"Yeah... My parents died when i was a baby. I've been on my own for as long as i remember." He said sadly.

"I'm sorry, I can't exactly say i know how you feel, to be alone all my life, but my parents were murdered last week. I was moved here to live with my uncle. I really don't want to stay with him though. I don't really know him.

"Oh, well... I have an idea! why don't you stay at my place for a while?"

"Really?! You wouldn't mind?" I asked, shocked.

"Of course not! After all, you're my first real friend. That's what friends do, right?" He asked cheerfully.

I love this boy already.

"Thank you so much, Naruto. I love you so much." I squealed and hugged him. He hugged back hesitantly, as if the gesture was foreign to him. It probably was.

"Now, i should probably go back to the hospital to grab my stuff." I said.

"Hospital?!" He asked shocked.

I rubbed the back of my head looking sheepishly to the ground. "Yeah, i sort of, uh-"

"MAKI HATAKE." I recognized Kakashi's yelling voice behind me. I gulped.

"I FINALLY FOUND YOU. I WILL PERSONALLY DRAG YOUR ARSE BACK TO THE HOSPITAL IF YOU DON'T-"

I didn't wait to hear the rest. "Gotta go! Bye Naruto!!" I took off and out of the ramen shop. Ha, there's no way Kakashi can catch up to me, i'm pretty fast if i must say so myself. Lots of hard work and dedication starting from the age of 3. can't get much better than that.

So, turns out I underestimated Kakashi Hatake once again. He caught up to me in 3 minutes flat.

Huh, guess i have to resort to fighting. I turned around and did the hand symbols swiftly. "Water style, water release: ripping torrent jutsu!" I yelled. I sucked all the water in the air around me. It swirled in a violent ball in the palm of my hand.

Kakashi's eyes widened for a moment then settled back to normal. "Huh, guess i'll finally get to see what my brother taught you." He got into a fighting stance, waiting for my attack. I charged at him full speed, ready to hit him hard.

He dodged. Pfffff, no fair. He took a couple of kunai and threw it at me. I dodged easily, but I couldn't keep hold of my ripping torrent jutsu. I let it go and went into another set of hand signs. "Water style: Water sword jutsu!" I yelled. A water sword appeared in my hand. It doesn't look like much but it'll cut through effectively when against a solid object.

I held my water style sword out in front of me and Kakashi held his kunai in a defensive posture. Ha, i was so going to win this fight.

**

Well, I lost that fight. bad. A short summary would be, i charged Kakashi, turns out it was a clone. The real one was behind me underground. He'd pinned me down in less than a minute. And by down i mean, literally. Down. My whole body was underground with only my head sticking out.

I glared at Kakashi as he sat down in front of me, smirking. Man, if i were able to move my arms or legs right now...

"So Maki, what exactly has been going on all these years? I haven't exactly been in your life much, so now's probably a good time to get to know you. After all, you'll be living with me."

I groaned inwardly. Now would be a bad time to bring up that i was staying with Naruto, not him. I needed him to get me out of the ground before i told him that.

"Nothing," I said harshly, though that didn't seem to phase him at all. "Can you get me out of here now?"

"Sure Maki-chan. After..."

"After what." I growled.

"After i hear you call me Kakashi-ojisan!" Meaning Kakashi Uncle, and the ending would be adressing him in a polite way. Ugh. Really.

"Fine..." I whispered it.

"What? I'm afraid i didn't hear you there." He said innocently.

Bah, so much for him having that better than perfect sense of hearing i've heard of. I growled under my breath.

"I said, can you get me out of here Kakashi-Ojisan." I grumbled again. Muttering under my breath, but a little louder.

He smiled cheekily with his eyes, since you know, i couldn't see the rest of his face that was covered by the mask and headband.

"Sure Maki-chan! Why didn't you just say so before!"

He grabbed me and hauled me out of the ground easily.  I waited for him to let me go so that i could make a run for it. No such luck.

He probably read my mind because as soon as i was completely out, he tossed me over his shoulder.

I refused to go without a fight, but in the end it was just like he said back in the Ichiraku shop. Him dragging my arse back to the hospital. *sigh*

PICTURE ---> Guess where Maki-chan get's that sheepish look from lol)
