Chapter 43
08:31, 14 April 2013Kai's POV
I barely could sleep all night. Although I was in a comfortable bed away from the man who made my life hell for a long time, I still couldn't. The excitement was overwhelming and I just wanted to see Harry right now.
The night was long and the room felt like it was closing in on me. The longer time went by the more anxious I got.
Eventually the morning came and overall I only slept three hours. I fell asleep around four in the morning. I wasn't really surprised that Karen and Jack are early risers, they live on a farm. All stereotype farmers wake up early to tend all the animals.
"Rise and shine Kai!" Karen sing songed into my room.
I opened my eyes slowly and watched her open the blinds to the window. I shot right up knowing I'd be seeing Harry today. The smile jumped on my face as Karen turned around.
She smiled at me showing my gleefullness.
"You must be excited! Am I right?" She asked.
"Yes!" I said adding a small laugh afterward.
She smiled, "Well first we need to eat and get a few errands done and then we'll take you to town! Okay?"
I nodded, and honestly I wanted to go right now but I wasn't going to push it.
I cleaned up and was wearing some of Karen's clothes. Jeans and a red t shirt with boots. I put my hair up into a ponytail knowing today was going to be a bit hot. I liked the feeling of being on this farm. It was a feeling of home and peace, and a sense of comfort. I smiled at my reflection. Although I got only a few hours of sleep I felt never better.
I skipped down the stairs to be greeted with the smell of eggs and bacon. My mouth watered. I acted really happy around Jack and Karen because I've gotten used to them and comfortable. I've been much happier since yesterday.
I don't know why, maybe it's the fact that I'm actually safe and I get to see Harry soon or maybe because I feel at home here. I walked into the kitchen to find Karen at the stove. She sensed my presence and turned around and smiled.
"Oh dear, the breakfeast is almost ready, go sit down!" She instructed.
I walked towards her ready to help her cook and prepare.
"Oh no no! Dear shoo shoo! You don't need to help!" She said shooing me with her hands.
I laughed and walked over to the dining room. I saw Jack sitting down with his coffee in one hand and the paper in the other. He heard me and looked up as I sat down on a chair adjacent to him.
"Goodmorning Kai, how did you sleep?" He said setting down his paper.
I smirked, "Eh alright..." I trailed off.
"Excited eh?"
I nodded quickly and smiled.
He laughed, "Don't worry, you'll be in town soon enough."
A few minutes later Karen came to the table with plates of eggs, bacon and glasses of orange juice. We ate and chatted for a bit until I finished,
"That was delicious!" I exclaimed.
"That's what you get for living on a farm! It's all fresh!" She said happily.
"I bet!" I replied, "It's gorgeous here!"
She nodded and frowned a bit, "Yeah, I suppose."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "What's wrong?"
"It's just that we can't afford the farm anymore and its expenses so we have to be out of here in about three months. It's been in the family for a bit now and it's a bit depressing we were the generation to not keep it going." Jack explained for Karen.
A part in my heart died a little when he mentioned that. This was a beautiful place to live and was perfect for Jack and Karen. I really liked the time I spent on their farm and was sad to hear it wouldn't belong to them anymore.
"Where will you go? What will happen to the farm?" I asked.
They shrugged, "We're not sure yet. We don't know about the animals, we must sell them if possible and as where we will go I'm not sure." Jack said.
I frowned and was upset.
I wish I could help them, but there was no way I could.
A few hours went by and I was now in the stable with Karen and one of her horses. It was a dark chocolate brown horse with a white strip going down the nose. She was beautiful, and her name was Bonny.
As of right now we were tending to Bonny. I was brushing out her long tail and just finished with her coat. Karen was taking care of her stall as it was kind of dirty right now.
"I love this farm." I said as I was brushing out Bonny's last tangles.
Karen lightly laughed, "Yes it is always different every day, and it's very fun living on a farm."
This time is was my time to laugh, "It must be. If I wasn't excited about going home, I wouldn't want to leave." I admitted.
She smiled at me, "Yeah a farm does have affects like those. You know you're welcome to come by whenever you'd like. We'd always love to have you back!"
That made me smile. That I would definitely be doing. I would be coming back here and I hope it's soon. Right now I need to see Harry.
I nodded happily.
"Ready to go home?" She said standing up from finishing her cleaning.
One hour later Karen had Bonny all sadled up for the long trip to town. Karen was going to be taking me on Bonny and Jack would be staying back.
"Now I want you to come visit once you've settled back down alright?" Jack asked.
"Of course I will! Thank you so much for doing this for me, you've saved my life." I smiled.
Jack scoffed, "No darling, I did not. I only provided a one night stay. That is nothing. Have a safe trip back!" He said embracing me in a tight hug.
I hugged him back. I would miss this farm. I know I am coming back, that is for sure. Right now though I need to go to Harry.
"Bye thanks so much!" I said pulling away.
I turned around to face Karen already standing nearing Bonny waiting for me to climb on. I walked over to Bonny and stepped my foot into the foot holder thing. I'm not sure of the technical terms. Karen helped me on as she climbed on after me. I wrapped my arms around her waist.
"Be back before supper!" Jack called.
"Of course! See you soon!" Karen answered.
"Bye thank you!" I said turning around waving as I felt us begin to ride off.
I liked the feeling of riding on Bonny. I felt the wind flow through my hair for the next two hours. When they said the town was far they weren't joking. I'm not sure if I kept going and didn't stop at the farm, I could've died.
The only sounds were the clackings of Bonny's hooves hitting the road. I liked the sound, it was comforting and cool to listen to. Only one car had passed since the whole ride there.
A few minutes later of traveling a small town comes into view. My heartbeat quickens knowing this will be it.
"Do you want to use a phone or should I take you to the sheriff?" Karen asked.
I pondered. I really needed a way home so I decided on the Sheriff.
The town was full with life. However everyone was wearing hats, or overalls. This was one of those stereotype country towns. Dirt roads, saloons, and everyone seemed friendly.
We pulled outside of the Sheriff's office and we both jumped off Bonny.
"There you go, I hope you get home safely." Karen said.
I smiled, "Thank you so much. I wish there was a way to repay you. You've done more than you'll ever know for me. I'll come see you soon okay?"
She nodded smiling while giving me a hug. "Anytime."
"Sorry you had to make this trip just to drop me off." I apologized shuffling on my feet.
"Oh dear it's okay I needed something from the market anyways. Goodluck." She said as she hopped back on Bonny and rode away.
Sighing I turned towards the Sheriff's office and walked in.
I walked up to the front desk and was greeted by an office worker.
"Hello I'd like to turn myself in as found I guess?" I paused. The lady looked directly at me and looked a bit shocked, "I'm-" I began to say my name until I was cut off.
"Kai Evans." The lady said, "You're found."
