Chapter 18

Evan, Chad and Avril arrived at our doorstep in their  big coats soon enough. We quickly let them in and served them some hot chocolate. We sipped out drinks carefully in and chatted. I stared out the window for a while, admiring the falling snowflakes. Winter is always beautiful.

Soon, we were heading out the backdoor into the snow covered backyard, leaving a trail of footprints begind us. I pulled my coat around my tightly, trying to get as warm as I can. The two couples were already on their own, doing couple things. I walked around the garden and saw Evan and Ellie looking into each other's eyes. They were leaning in and I saw Evan's eyes drop to Ellie's lips. 

Oh my god! They were gonna kiss!

As much as I'd love to see them finally kissing each other, I had a much, much better idea. I sniggered as I bented down and rolled a ball of snow in my hands. I shaped it and waited for the perfect timing. They continued leaning in, going closer. Just as their lips were about to touch, I quickly took my aim and launched the ball from my hand. The snowball flew through the air and hit Ellie's head. 

"AH!" She yelled, immediately pulling away.

She turned around and glared at me while my stomch was hurting from laughing too hard. Her reaction was hilarious! 

"Ari... You are so gonna pay for that!" She shouted as she bent down and starting shaping a snowball too. 

Oh shit...

Now it was my turn to scream and run. 

"Come back here! You just ruined a perfectly perfect moment!" She laughed as she chased me.  I felt something hard hit my head and I yelled. Evan started joining in the fun as the three of us starting doing the same pattern. Gather the snow, shape it and throw it at someone. Basically a snowball fight.

We ran around the backyard, screaming and laughing at the same time. 

I suddenly had a thought and told them to stop.

"Guys, hold up... Where's Avril and Chad?" 

Realisation dawned on them as we realized they have been missing for a while. We turned to the only only big tree in the backyard at the same time. I put a finger up to my mouth to ask them to keep quiet. We all knew what we were thinking as we each rolled up a snowball in our hands. We tiptoed over to the tree and snucked towards the other side of the tree.

What was happening on the other side, was definately not what we were expecting. 

Ellie signalled to us, counting down to three with her fingers. The three of us jumped out of our hiding spots, screaming, ready to launched our snowballs when we stopped in action. Our eyes widened at the sight we were seeing.

Chad was down on one knee, with a ring in his hands. His eyes were locked on Avril, and hers on his. They turned to look at us, shocked. We immediately apologized and asked them to go on.

Chad turned back to Avril and said. "Will you marry me?"

Avril, without hesitation, said "Yes!". She gave Chad a huge hug and of course, started making out. Evan, Ellie and I started making grossed out faces and puking sounds. We all laughed as they pulled away and teased them endlessly.

In the end, the five of us were playing in the snow. Snowball fights, laughing and lots of running. We all fell to the ground, wiping our tears away. We laid down and of course, we make snow angels. The sun started setting and we decided to go back into the house.

We hanged up our coats and wrapped ourselves in warm blankets with cups of tea. We ended up watching a movie. I watched as they fell alseep one by one. I felt my heavy eyelids closing soon and smiled thinking about what a day it was.
