Chapter 70: Karaoke night part 3

03:15, 9 November 2019

"We're here!" Ashido exclaimed as she suddenly stopped causing everyone to almost walk into her.

"That was a lot further than I thought it'd be" Uraraka said.

"Yeah except you didn't have to walk any of it" Deku said looking up at her sat on his shoulders.

"I know thanks for that" she said smiling down at him and ruffling his hair before climbing down deciding she'd

"Come on let's head inside. We should already have a room prepared for us" Yaoyorozu said. They walked through the doors and into the room that was waiting for them. It was huge big enough for 30 people nevermind 20.

"Wow this is so cool" Ashido said admiring the size of the room.

"Yeah it's friggin huge" Kirishima said also in awe.

"Alright let's get started. Who wants to go first?" Yaoyorozu asked.

"I do I do!" Hagakure squealed with excitement.

"Ok go ahead" Yaoyorozu said handing her the microphone everybody else sat down to listen to her sing. Deku and Uraraka of course sat side by side holding hands with one another while Uraraka leaned on him with her head resting on his shoulder.

"Hey what song are you going to sing?" she asked as everybody else began to either sing along with Hagakure or applaud or cheer her on.

"I don't know. I haven't really thought about it. I like to sing songs where I can relate to the lyrics" Deku admitted.

"Same here. But what to sing?...I'll just wait and see what you do and then I'll pick" she said smiling feeling the warmth of his hand and seeing how happy all of their friends and classmates were. Except Bakugo. He as usual looked as grumpy as ever.

"Oh so you're making me go first?" he asked.

"Yep" she replied.

"And you'll decide what you're going to sing purely dependant on what I sing?" he asked.

"Yep" she replied again.

"Well ok then no pressure" he said a little nervous. He had been hoping Uraraka would go first to take away some of the pressure and nerves he was feeling.

"You'll be fine. Pick something that's personal to you or close to your heart since you like singing songs you can relate to. I'll do the same" she said squeezing his hand a little to reassure him.

Personal to me? Close to my heart? Hmmmmm....

"I've got it!" he exclaimed.

"Hm? That was fast" Uraraka said a little surprised.

"Yeah I'm a little surprised to but I think I know what I'm going to sing" Deku said a small smile showing on his face.

"What is it?" she asked curios to know his song choice.

"Oh I'm not gonna tell you that would ruin the surprise. It's not for you before you ask it's a song that I can relate to my life before UA and getting my quirk" Deku explained giving her some indication of what to expect.

"Oh no. Does that mean it's going to be really sad and emotional? We just got here please don't sing a sad and slow song" Uraraka begged. Deku simply chuckled.

"Don't worry it's not. It's actually a really upbeat song and it's not really that emotional either" Deku said.

"Well it looks like Hagakure is almost done so you should go next since you know what you're going to sing" she said.

"Yeah I guess" Deku said a little nervous now about actually performing in front of all of his classmates.

You've done it once before and there was way more pressure then because you were confessing to Uraraka that you liked her. There's no pressure here. This is just our class having a fun evening so relax it'll be fine.

"So who's next?" Hagakure asked having finished her song.

"I guess that'd be me" Deku said standing up to take the microphone from Hagakure.

"Wow Midoriya I wasn't expecting you to get up and sing so soon. Ribbit" Asui admitted.

"Well I know what song I want to sing so I'm just gonna do it" Deku said searching for the song he wanted on the screen.

"Loving the confidence Midoriya. Very manly" Kirishima said giving him a thumbs up.

"Thanks. Well here goes nothing" Deku said holding the microphone up to his lips.

"You've got this Deku" Uraraka mumbled to herself. The music began to play and everyone instantly recoginsed it.

He was right it is an upbeat song but why is it something he relates to?...oh wait...oh no...

"I find it hard to say the things I want to say the mostFind a little bit of steady as I get closeFind a balance in the middle of the chaosSend me low, send me high, send me never demigodI remember walking in the cold of NovemberHoping that I make it to the end of DecemberSixteen years and the end of my mind, butHolding to the thought of another time, butLooking to the ways of the ones before meLooking for the path of the young and lonelyI don't want to hear about what to doI don't want to do it just to do it for you

The music continued to play as the outro finished the song. Uraraka couldn't help but feel a little heartbroken as she felt a few tears building up in her eyes.

"Oh Deku..." she whispered under her breath instantly connecting the song to Deku's feelings about his difficult and rough childhood. Although she felt better when she saw that Deku seemed to genuinely be smiling as her classmates applauded him. All except one.

Bakugo. Of course you're not applauding him. Such an asshole. I oughta- wait a minute where is he going? And what's with that look on his face he seems to be something other than angry right now.

Bakugo slipped out of the room hoping nobody had noticed him although Uraraka had watched him leave.

I wonder what that's all about? He seemed... upset? Does he even feel anything other than anger or jealousy of Deku's power? Screw it I'm gonna find out.

She stood up and while everybody was distracted applauding Deku and he was being crowded and praised for his singing she slipped out of the room to follow Bakugo.

"Hey Bakugo wait up!" she called.

"Round face? The fuck do you want?" he asked confused why Uraraka was choosing to have a conversation with him and had clearly gone out of her way to do it.

"You don't have to be so rude all the time" she said crossing her arms in disapproval and raising an eyebrow.

"Yes I do. Now I'll ask again. What the fu-" he began but she cut him off.

"Oh no you don't mister I came here to ask you questions so shutup and answer them I'm not in the mood for your bullshit" she demanded. Bakugo looked completely shocked. Like his reality was collapsing before him.

The only language he seems to understand is angry so that's how I'll speak to him if it earns his respect long enough for him to stay and answer my questions.

"...ok" was all Bakugo said in reply struggling to find any other words but he didn't turn to leave so she assumed she could ask what she came here to ask.

"You looked...I don't know really upset? When Deku finished singing" she explained.

"Not upset. Fed up" he replied.

"Of what?" she asked.

"Of Deku" he said.

"Well duh when are you not. What specifically about Deku singing that song made you feel fed up?" she asked.

"I heard the two of you talking about what songs you would sing. You told him he should sing something he can relate to so when he sang that song I knew why he related to it" Bakugo explained.

"Of course you do you're the whole reason he felt that way" she said scolding him.

"Yeah well if he wasn't such a wimp-" Bakugo began.

"He isn't a wimp! He's more brave than you'll ever be! He stood up to you when it mattered. He tried to protect people when you picked on them even though he knew he'd never win without a quirk. That's bravery" she argued furious with the blonde. Strangely he didn't give her an angry response in return and instead he seemed quite calm.

"I'll give him that but he just needs to stop feeling so sorry for himself and talking about his shitty childhood so much. I get it I was an asshole to him and made his life harder than it needed to be but look where he was now. He should focus on the present and get off the pity potty already" Bakugo explained.

"Has it ever occurred to you that's why he's better than you?" she asked. This time Bakugo got annoyed.

"He's not!" he screamed.

"Yes he is. He talks about things that upset him or things that were traumatic in his past which probably takes a huge weight off of his shoulders and he learns from his past mistakes. That's why he grew so quickly and learned to control his quirk more effectively in such a short amount of time" she explained.

"Whatever I don't care" Bakugo said.

"I know you don't I just thought I should tell you and something might get through that thick skull of yours" she said.

"Again I don't care. Now fuck off" he said turning around and beginning to walk away.

"Where are you going? We only just started the karaoke" she questioned.

"To the bathroom like I was doing before you decided to interrupt me!" Bakugo screamed. Uraraka didn't reply she just simply walked away and back into the karaoke room.

"Oh hey there you are" Deku said as she walked in.

"Did I miss anything?" she asked.

"No you didn't miss anything. Do you want to sing?" Ashido asked.

"Sure. I've got a good song in mind" she said as it suddenly came to her what she would sing. She walked past Deku before going to pick up the microphone.

"I'm going to sing a song about you" she whispered in his ear. With that she picked up the microphone and found the song on the screen before selecting it.

Here we go. I hope Deku likes the choice of song...

"I was just an only child of the universeAnd then I found youAnd then I found youYou are the sun and I am just the planetsSpinning around youSpinning around youYou were too good to be trueGold platedBut what's inside youBut what's inside youI know this whole damn city thinks it needs youBut not as much as I doAs much as I do, yeah

'Cause you're the last of a dying breedWrite our names in the wet concreteI wonder if your therapist knows everything about meI'm here in search of your gloryThere's been a million before meThat ultra-kind of loveYou never walk away fromYou're just the last of the real onesYou're just the last of the real onesYou're just the last of the real onesYou're just the last of the real onesYou're just the last of the real ones

As she finished the whole room burst into applause.

"Oh thanks you guys" Uraraka said blushing a little and slightly embarrassed. She looked over at Deku who was completely straight faced and motionless.

Is he ok?

All of the sudden Deku jumped up out of his seat and was hugging her tightly beginning to tear up.

"Thank you. That was great" he said squeezing her tightly but making sure not to crush her in his arms.

"That's ok" she said returning his embrace.

"Awwwwwwwww seriously you guys are too much you're so adorable!" Ashido squealed unable to contain herself.

"She's right you know. We are pretty friggin cute together" Uraraka joked in his ear causing him to chuckle a little.

"I won't argue that" he said wiping the remaining tears from his eyes. At that moment Bakugo walked back into the room and took the scene in. He and Uraraka locked eyes and he gave her a look as if to say "this is what I was talking about" but she ignored it. After all when did she start giving a damn about what Bakugo thought.

"Well since you two are already up and stood with the microphone why don't you guys do a duet together?" Yaoyorozu asked.

"Sounds good. I think I have a good song for us Deku" she said as they released each other from their embrace.

"Great because I have no idea" Deku admitted.

"You ready?" she asked selecting the song.

"Yeah let's do this" Deku said grabbing the second microphone. The music began to play and it was Deku to sing first.

Deku: "I found a love for meDarling just dive right inAnd follow my leadWell I found a girl beautiful and sweetI never knew you were the someone waiting for me'Cause we were just kids when we fell in loveNot knowing what it wasI will not give you up this timeBut darling, just kiss me slow, your heart is all I ownAnd in your eyes you're holding mine

Baby, I'm dancing in the dark with you between my armsBarefoot on the grass, listening to our favourite songWhen you said you looked a mess, I whispered underneath my breathBut you heard it, darling, you look perfect tonight"

Uraraka: "Well I found a man, stronger than anyone I knowHe shares my dreams, I hope that someday we'll share a homeI found a love, to carry more than just my secretsTo carry love, to carry children of our ownWe are still kids, but we're so in loveFighting against all odds I know we'll be alright this timeDarling, just hold my handBe your girl, you'll be my manI see my future in your eyes

Baby, I'm dancing in the dark, with you between my armsBarefoot on the grass"

Together: "listening to our favourite song"

Deku: "When I saw you in that dress"

Together: "looking so beautifulI don't deserve this, darling, you look perfect tonight"

Uraraka reached out and grabbed Deku's free hand causing him to hold onto it and squeeze as the two faced each other to make eye contact instead of reading the screen like they had been doing. They knew the words so they didn't need it and it was way more intimate this way.

Together: "Baby, I'm dancing in the dark, with you between my armsBarefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song I have faith in what I seeNow I know I have met"

Uraraka: "an angel in person"

Deku: "And she looks perfect"Uraraka (at the same time): "And he looks perfect"

Deku: "I don't deserve this"

Together: "You look perfect tonight"

As the music played out the room burst into applause and cheers and whoops and whistles as yet again their fellow classmates were blown away with how well these two could sing together and the chemistry that they seemed to have. Deku and Uraraka holding hands bowed to their adoring audience savouring the moment. The entire class were enjoying their evening so far and what was a beautiful moment however the current mood of the evening was about to take a drastic turn...

Only just thanked you guys yesterday for 16k reads and now we're at 17.2k...insane. Thank you all so much and for all your votes and your brilliant comments too it's amazing to see and I appreciate it so much.

The songs of course were:

Imagine dragons - zeroFall out boy - last of the real onesEd Sheeran - perfect (duet version)

There are actually some great BNHA AMV's for those first two songs on YouTube too by the way so feel free to check them out I think they really suit the show but feel free to go and have a look for yourself. Also I changed the lyrics slightly in zero. Since Deku is 16 at this point still I changed it to 16 instead of 27 like it is in the actual song.
