Joy Restored

Hiccup's POV

Krystal had been keeping to herself ever since that night. Hiccup tried to talk to her, but she seemed distant. Lost in thought. When the gang had finished constructing Krystal's hut, she had locked herself up in it for hours on end, only emerging for meals. Hiccup felt as if it were his fault that she was like this, even if it wasn't. He wanted his childhood friend back. He wanted Krystal back.

Standing in front of Krystal's door, Hiccup knocks. The girl opens the door slightly, her blue eyes looking at him dully. Hiccup manages a weak smile. It broke his heart to see Krystal like this.

"I was wondering if you wanted to come on patrol with me." Hiccup says. "You haven't been out much and I wanted to explore a new island I found."

"Give me a moment." Krystal responds, some of her old spirit returning to her eyes. Hiccup waits for the girl to return. Krystal emerges from her hut, dressed and ready to fly. Hiccup smiles.

"Let's go."

Krystal's POV

"Come on. I wanted to show you something." Hiccup grabs Krystal's hand and leads her into the forest. They had been exploring the island for about two hours now, not finding anything interesting.

"Okay okay." Krystal laughs at Hiccup's enthusiasm and allows herself to be led. Hiccup leads her to an open meadow. Flowers dotted the landscape, a river flowing along the tree line. Hiccup takes Krystal to the center of the meadow. In the center was a large rock, a beautiful blue flower growing on it. It was unlike any flower Krystal had ever seen. Hiccup gently picks it up and turns to Krystal.

"For you." Hiccup holds out the flower.

"It's beautiful." Krystal smiles. "Would you mind?" Krystal points to her hair and Hiccup nods. A few moments later, the flower sat in Krystal's black hair, beaming in the sunlight.

"You look amazing." Hiccup says. Krystal feels the familiar warm feeling she gets every time she's with Hiccup. She can't really explain it, but whenever he's near her, Krystal feels like she's on top of the world.

"Thank you, Hiccup." Krystal hugs the boy.

"You're welcome for the flower." He replies.

"Not just the flower. Thank you for being there for me." Krystal looks into Hiccup's green eyes. Ever since she had come back, she found herself getting lost in those green eyes.

"You're welcome." Hiccup smiles. Then Krystal did something she never expected she'd ever do. Standing on her toes, Krystal kisses Hiccup. Not on the cheek, mind you. A real kiss. When Krystal pulls away, Hiccup's face had turned bright red. When what Krystal just did sinks in, she covers her face with her hands.

"I'm so sorry, Hiccup. I didn't..." Hiccup pulls Krystal's hands away from her face. As she looks up at him, he kisses her. Hiccup pulls away, leaving Krystal shocked.

"No apology needed." Hiccup smiles. "I'm glad you're back."
