A Familiar Face

15:02, 20 August 2024

As the applause from the conference faded, Alana Sienna Custodio stepped outside into the brisk afternoon air. The weight of her speech still hung in her chest, mingling with the sense of accomplishment that came with it. The crowd from the conference gradually dispersed, their voices blending into a distant murmur as they departed.

Alana lingered at the entrance, taking a moment to absorb everything. Her mind was a whirl of thoughts when, out of the corner of her eye, she saw something—or rather, someone—who made her heart stop.

There, just beyond the steps, walking casually among the other attendees, was Giselle Faye Dela Peña. She looked as vibrant and alive as ever, her familiar smile warming Alana's heart. For a moment, Alana couldn't believe her eyes.

Giselle glanced back over her shoulder, meeting Alana's eyes with a knowing look before turning and continuing down a path that led away from the conference. Without hesitation, Alana followed, her heart racing with each step. The sight of Giselle had filled her with a sense of purpose, as though she was meant to be there, following her, right now.

They walked in silence, Giselle leading the way with a calm, steady pace. The path took them to a secluded area, a serene spot where the noise of the city seemed to fade away. The grass here was lush and green, a stark contrast to the concrete surroundings they had just left behind.

Giselle reached a small bench beneath a sprawling oak tree and sat down. The dappled sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a soft glow around her. As Alana approached, Giselle looked up and smiled, a gentle wave inviting her to sit beside her.

Giselle: "Alana," she said, her voice as familiar as the warmth of the sun on a cool day. "Come, sit with me."

Alana's breath caught in her throat as she took a seat next to Giselle. The bench creaked softly under their combined weight, and for a moment, they sat in comfortable silence, just as they had so many times before.

Alana: "It's really you," Alana said softly, her voice filled with a mixture of wonder and disbelief. "You're here."

Giselle nodded, her expression serene. "I'm here," she confirmed, her voice steady and reassuring. "And so are you."

Alana looked out over the green grass, her mind racing with a thousand questions. But in this moment, none of them seemed to matter. All that mattered was that Giselle was there, beside her, as real and tangible as the world around them.

Alana: "I didn't think I'd ever see you again," Alana admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "Not like this."

Giselle: "Sometimes, life has a way of surprising us," Giselle said, her tone gentle and understanding. "I knew you'd find your way back to me."

Alana felt a tear slip down her cheek, but she didn't bother to wipe it away. "I've missed you so much," she confessed, her voice breaking.

Giselle reached out, taking Alana's hand in hers. The touch was warm and familiar, grounding Alana in the reality of the moment. "I've missed you too," Giselle replied softly, her voice full of warmth.

They sat there, hand in hand, the world around them fading into the background. The connection between them was as strong as ever, a bond that time and distance hadn't been able to break.

Finally, Giselle broke the silence, her voice filled with quiet conviction. "You've done something incredible, Alana. You've accomplished so much. I'm proud of you."

Alana nodded, her emotions swirling within her. "Thank you," she said, her voice thick with emotion.

Giselle smiled, her eyes shining with pride. "But remember, it's okay to look forward. There's so much ahead for you."

Alana squeezed Giselle's hand, feeling the truth in her words. "I'll try," she promised, her voice trembling.

Giselle leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to Alana's forehead. "That's all I ask," she whispered.

As the sun began to set, casting a golden hue over the green grass, Alana felt a sense of peace settle over her. She knew that, somehow, everything was going to be okay.

And when she finally looked up, Giselle was still there, her presence as real and comforting as ever. Alana stood, taking one last look at the place where they had sat together, before turning and walking away, knowing that Giselle would always be with her—no matter what the future held.
