Chapter 23 - Why?

1st July 2007 - Mike's POV:

I woke up hearing Crawling from the bathroom, it was 1am and Ruby was not by my side. "Ruby?." The bathroom door was shut so I knew she was in there but she still didn't answer. "RUBY!" I banged on the door and it opened slightly, it was hard to push the door open but when I tilted my head around to look inside, she was on the floor, passed out with a belt around her neck. I screamed and shouted to get her to wake up. The door had a mark on it and it had seemed like Ruby had hung herself but it came loose and she fell, I turned off the radio.

I phoned 911 and when the paramedics arrived, they said that what had happened to Ruby was definitely a suicide attempt but by chance she was still alive because she had not been hanging for long. "She left a note." A paramedic passed it to me and the things it said were horrible, I knew she struggled with her feeling but not to the extent of attempting to take her life. Otis walked out of his room because he heard all the commotion, "Where's mommy? I heard lots of shouting.." He asked me, looking scared. I wiped away my tears rapidly to avoid making more of a scene, "She's had a little accident and is going to hospital for a while. Don't worry.." I dropped to my knees to give my son a hug, "Will she be OK?." This question scared me, I didn't want to tell Otis that everything would be fine and then have Ruby die from her injuries. "I don't know at the moment, but we can pray and hope for the best.."

Later, Ruby's POV:

I was trapped somewhere that looked like everyone's representation of heaven, there was 2 doors that I could enter. A woman came up to me who looked so sweet, "Why are you here?" She put her hand on my shoulder as I started to cry, "Suicide..." She gasped as the word left my mouth, "I only say this to good people, but do you want another go at life? It's not always successful but it can bring you back to life." A big guy appeared and pushed me, "She's weak and dumb to kill herself, she should go to hell where the rest of them go!" He was huge and intimidating but still the woman had the guts to speak up and argue with the man, "No! She is not weak! She is strong and deserves the right to enter life again. You're like this just because you can't live again, well it's too late for you now. Now leave this poor girl alone, she has been through a lot." "Thanks.." I stood by her side and she was so kind. This may have all been in my mind but she gave me the courage to want to live again, risking the potential for me to die entirely.

Mike's POV:

It had been 6 hours since I found Ruby, we were now at the hospital and even though I was drained both physically and mentally from lack of sleep, I kept awake in hopes of seeing Ruby open her eyes. She was alive but was asleep, basically in a coma, Otis was next to me but asleep. I held Ruby's hand and talked to her, "Ruby, I'm so sorry you felt this way and I didn't do anything about it. I feel as if I could've prevented this from happening but no, I was so about myself that I forgot all about how you feel. I hope you can forgive me...

Ruby's POV:

A creepy looking guy grabbed me by the collar of my shirt and lifted me up and shouted to me, "You will not get out of this, give up and die already!" I kicked him in the stomach and he dropped me, giving me the opportunity to make a run for it. He began to chase after me and I was so scared for what he was gonna go if he caught me, he was bigger and stronger than me after all. I regretted running but I could not stop now, the adrenaline gave me more motivation than ever to sprint out of the sight of the monster chasing me. 

Everything was a blur for me until I heard Mike's voice deep inside my head, speaking to me. Saying he was sorry and that it was his fault I got into this mess. It annoyed me that he thought he was the reason I turned out this way, but he was far from the problem. In fact he helped me. I managed to hide against a wall and the monster ran past, dumb ass. I ran the way I just came and to the door with all the nice people inside. I was getting closer and closer till I heard loud footsteps within arms reach of me, it was him again. He grabbed the back of my shirt and threw me to the wall, I hit it and fell. "Oww..." My back hurt from the force. "Don't you ever try to run from me again! You got yourself into this so now you won't get out!" 

I felt like I could never get out of this and I had only a certain amount of time to get to life before my whole body shut down and I would be gone forever...
