Chapter 35
01:49, 3 June 2016I saw my mum standing on the street with a couple cops. "Does she have a history of running off?" I heard one of them ask her but she was just standing their looking worried.
"That's my son! He can tell you everything you need to know!" She pointed over at me. I stood next to her and put my arm around her. "She does have a history of running off but not recently. She just had a baby and she hasn't run off at all in the past few months. She was really turning her life around. She has a lot in her past that I need to tell you about because I think that will help you find her." I told the officer and he nodded before walking over to two more officers.
They asked me to follow them to the police station and I called one of the boys to come pick my mum up.
I was at the police station all night telling them everything and them interrogating different suspects.
But I knew that none of them took her. It had to have been her Uncle.
"So do you know this place where she lived before?" An officer asked me as I downed my third cup of coffee.
"Uh, I think I'd been there once but it was so long ago I don't even remember." I sighed feeling useless. I put my head in my hands and felt like my head was going to explode.
"It's okay kid, we're going to find her. Have you ever met her Uncle?"
"Uh well, I think I did. The night she was having her baby there was this guy there and he kept asking me a whole bunch of questions and saying that his niece was having a baby that day too. I had a bad feeling about him."
"Alright we're going to get a sketch on him if you don't mind. That can help up I.D. him at least so we can find him and question him." The cop stood up and left me in the room all alone. I couldn't keep my mind from going to the worst places. I had this terrible feeling she wasn't even alive.
If he was the one that took her, he had so much anger built up I don't know what he would do to her.
A lady came in a few moment later with a pad and a pencil. I sat there and tried to remember to the best ability what he looked like as she questioned and sketched.
When she was done it was surprisingly accurate to what I remembered and a cop immediately took it into another room.
I waited around for another hour or so until a woman copped walked in. "Hey dear. So we've got patrol cars out searching the area she went missing and we're getting an I.D. on her Uncle. You were also right about your friend Louis maybe remembering where the Uncle's house is. We have a few officers heading over there now. You should get home and get some rest but make sure to keep your phone by you. We'll update you with anything we can." She told me placing a warm hand on my shoulder.
I nodded and made my way outside walking over to my car. By the time I got home I was practically dragging myself through the door. As soon as I walked in I heard crying from the living room where my mum was frantically trying to get Storm to calm down.
"There's no more breast milk and she won't take formula, I don't know what to do." My mothers voice sounded strained as she rocked the baby back and forth. "You look exhausted."
"I am but so do you. Give me Storm and go get some sleep." I told my mum and after a little arguing she complied. I carried Storm upstairs and into my bedroom. She was slowly calming down as I peeked into Abigail's room and pulled off a blanket she sleeps with.
I wrapped Storm up in it and she calmed down drastically. I thought the smell of Abby might calm her down, like she was really here holding the baby.
I laid down on my bed with Storm next to me, cradled close. "Don't worry, they're going to find her little one." I mumbled placing a soft kiss on her head. "And if they don't, I will. If it's the last thing I do, I promise you."
Storm let out a little hiccup before looking up at me and placing her thumb in her mouth. She looked so innocent. "I promise I'll always keep you safe and nothing will ever happen to you. You're mummy has had a hard life but you never will. I promise." I kissed her forehead and she slowly closed her eyes. A few short minutes later and she was fast asleep next to me. Safe and Sound.

I woke up to Storm stirring next to me and slowly rolled over looking at the clock. 3 p.m., yikes. I got up and headed downstairs with Storm placing her in the crib down there. I rummaged through the kitchen looking for a bottle hoping she was hungry enough to just take it and thank god she was. My mum must've gone out food shopping or something because she was nowhere to be found.
As I was feeding Storm my cell phone rang and I quickly grabbed it from out of my pocket. "Hello."
"Niall? It's detective Diaz and we have an update. We went to the house and they weren't there but there were signs of them being there not too long ago. There was some strange activity over by the train tracks on the river edge so we're heading there now and I'll let you know if it's anything."
"Okay, thank you." I replied before hanging up the phone.
I sat down on the couch with Storm and watched as she finished the bottle, hope bubbling up in my chest. I would do anything to see Abigail again even if it meant her being sassy to me like she used to be.
I sat on the couch with Storm for a while just holding her close to my chest before Louis walked in. He came and sat down next to me. "Anything?" He asked finally breaking the silence.
"Nothing at the house but there was some activity by the railroad tracks so they're heading there." I told him as he reached over to grab Storm from me.
"Man, we should've been more careful. We let our guard down thinking it was all over. We forgot." His voice was cracking as I looked over at him, his eyes fixated on Storm.
"Don't beat yourself up. She'll be fine, she can handle herself. She's the toughest person we know, we'll see her again soon." I spoke the words but I'm not sure if I believed them. She was tough but I remember the one time when she looked at me with such immense fear in her eyes as she told me about her friend Hannah. The one that was her age and tried to get Abby to run away with her and then was found dead a few days later.
She was right, this was a whole other game. The police couldn't help her, no one could. But I was going to try.
"I have to go." I stood up abruptly quickly putting my shoes on.
"What, where?" Louis asked looking confused.
"I'm going to look for her. I have to try at least." I grabbed my car keys and turned to look at Louis. "Don't let anything happen to that baby."
And with that I was out the door and bolting toward my car. I got in and just started driving. At first I was just driving aimlessly but then I decided to head toward the railroad tracks.
When I got there, there were a ton of cops and I mean at least 25. Immediately I got worried. Why would there be so many?
I parked a little ways down and walked up looking for a cop that looked familiar. "Woah kid, you can't be here." I was stopped by a huge officer who stood between me and where other officers were searching.
"I'm a family member of the girl you're looking for. Abigail." He sighed and looked around before I told him the name of the woman I spoke to earlier. Detective Diaz came over to me with a sorry look on her face and I felt my heart drop. "We haven't found anything yet. We're talking to a few girls we found hiding out over here, other prostitutes. They're not giving us much which means something must've happened here." She told me and it felt like the wind got knocked out of me. "I know it's hard but trust me. Being out here trying to find her is just going to make things worse. Go home, be with your family. Be with her baby. It's what she would want. We'll call you with any updates." She squeezed my shoulder before walking off again.
She was right, this didn't help at all.
"You're cute." I stopped and looked up at a girl, maybe 19. "Wanna have some fun?"
"Uh, no thank you." I mumbled looking around at all the cops.
"You know what's going on here, they're busting our balls really hard. Askin' all these damn questions." She sighed rolling her eyes.
"Yeah they're searching for a girl that went missing, my friend, she used to be a prostitute. Her name was Abigail, do you know her?" I asked hoping she would talk to me since I wasn't a cop.
"Hm, Abby. Yeah I know her, she wasn't well liked among the rest of us. Real bitchy, always looked out for herself and never wanted anything to do with us. Always takin' our business with her pretty little face. She was real good friends with a girl Hannah who died a while ago cause she tried to run off. How'd Abby go missing?" She asked and I was hoping she might be able to give me some details on where pimps usually take their girls.
"Well her Uncle left for a month on business so I helped her out, she was in a real bad place, and took her in. He came back and has been looking for her I guess, but he finally found her." I watched as her face got nervous.
"Oh wow. I'm real sorry baby. I wish I could help but you know, we can't really talk about this stuff, don't want to end up like Abby."
"What do you mean?" I asked grabbing her wrist as she tried to walk away.
"Pimps don't take their time killing off girls who don't listen to them, it's fast and easy then on to the next."
"Abby was his only girl." I told her and she stopped, chewing on her bottom lip.
"Oh." She tried to hide her expression but I could see it, horror. "I'll pray for her." She pulled from my grip and walked away back over to a crowd of girls.
After that conversation it was hard to remain hopeful but I know Abby and I know she's strong and I know she's thinking about her baby and she'll do anything to come back to her.
Anything to come back to me.
*****
It's been a week and they haven't gotten anything yet. A few clues here and there and they swear they're closing in on them but it always turns out to be a bust. At this point I've found it hard to go on with my daily life. My mum left a few days ago to head back home to help out with my brother and his new baby. I've moved in part time with Harry and Louis so they could help me with Storm.
"Ni, you want anything?" Louis asked from the kitchen but I just shook my head still feeling full from lunch. Louis and Harry came to sit down in the living room as Harry clicked the baby monitor on. Storm has been extremely difficult these last two days. Barely eating, not sleeping well at all and crying for more than half the day.
"When will Zayn and Liam be here, the game is starting." Louis piped up flipping to the sports channel. I cracked open a beer and a few minutes later Zayn and Liam walked in.
We sat on the couch trying to contain our loud cheers as our team was winning, the game nearly at an end. "Double over-time this is mad." Liam laughed looking over at the clock. 11:11 p.m.
At one of the most intense parts of the game someone knocked on the door and I stood up to get it. I opened it to see Detective Diaz and another officer. "Hello, Niall."
"Hey, come in. We were just finishing up the game." I allowed them in and shut the door behind me. "What've you got for me?" They've been stopping by like this all week with updates on what their new finds are.
"Well our search has come to an end. About 4 hours ago we got a lead about loud yelling between a male and female coming from an abandoned house near the more isolated part of downtown London so we went there and there was nothing so we searched the area and about 2 hours later we were lead to an abandoned warehouse with a lot of commotion. As soon as we pulled up about 15 men fled from the scene but our team got inside fairly quickly. Uh, when we got in there, there were 3 girls and about 30 men. 2 of the girls were dead and their bodies were, uh, mutilated while the other girl was still alive being taken advantage of. We were able to arrest every man inside. Including who we believe is Stan. It's thought, from what we've gotten, that the three girls were all former prostitutes who had run away and were caught and being punished."
My body shivered as she told me this, my stomach twisting as it became hard for me to hold down any food I had in there.
"They're all being processed now under the charges of murder, rape, sexual assault and rape of a minor." She kept going and all I could think about was Abigail. If she was one of the two girls dead or the 1 girl alive.
But after what the officer just described to me, I don't even know if she'd want to be alive.
WOOOOOAHHH SO.... the last chapter is going to be the next one but at the end of that one I have a surprise..
So what do you guys think, is she dead or alive??? Comment and vote for the next chapter!!!
