Chapter 5

The Day Sasuke Became A Genin

About four years has passed. Kotomi was now eight years old, attending the academy. It was also going to be the day where Sasuke will be assigned to a squad.

Putting on her shoes, Kotomi saw her brother walking towards her. He wearing the Konoha headband on his forehead. She never felt more proud in her life. "It looks good on you, Onii-san."

Sasuke has his hands in his pockets. "It's not a big deal."

"Yes it is! Today is the day where you become a ninja!"

"What did you expect?"

Kotomi sweatdropped. "You are so hardheaded..." She noticed a slight malfunction on his shirt collar, going up to him and fixing it. "Your collar was folded weird."

Sasuke slightly blushed in embarrassment. "Quit trying to act like mother."

Kotomi smiled sadly. She knew that he needed someone to take care of him sometimes, even though he was older than her. She wanted to act like their mother at times like these. "Sorry."

"Whatever. Are you ready to go or what?"

"Yeah. I had my shoes on the entire time."

"Then let's go." The two headed out towards the door, walking to the academy together.

Once at the academy, the Uchiha siblings went to their respectable classes. Kotomi was sitting by herself, staring out the window. She wondered how Sasuke was doing in his class. Who would be in his squad? And would they be good friends?

Hearing someone sit next to her snapped her out of her thoughts. Kotomi turned around, seeing a boy with short blue hair and blue eyes. He side glared at some guys who were eyeing Kotomi. Afterwards, he shyly smiled at her. "Good morning, Kotomi."

Kotomi smiled back. "Good morning, Tsubaki. How are you?"

"I'm doing well, how about yourself?"

"I'm doing great. My brother is going to be in a squad today."

Tsubaki looked at her in awe. "That's right. Your brother became a genin recently. That's awesome."

"He made it seem like it wasn't a huge deal this morning..."

"But it is a huge deal!" Realizing he raised his voice out of excitement, Tsubaki slumped down in his seat. "Whenever we become genin, I hope that we end up in the same squad."

Kotomi saw a slight blush on his face, making her smile softly. "I hope so too."

"I'm telling you! Big bro Naruto is going to be the strongest ninja ever!" Kotomi heard someone basically shouting, turning over towards him. It was one of her classmates, Konohamaru Saratobi. "You should've seen what he did! It was amazing!"

Tsubaki slowly shook his head. "Noisy as ever, that guy." Hearing Kotomi stand up from her seat, he turned over towards her. "Kotomi, where are you going?"

Kotomi gave him a quick smile. "To see how my brother is doing. I'm kind of worried about him today." With that, she began walking towards the exit of the classroom.

Arriving in front of the door of Sasuke's class, Kotomi slightly cracked the door opened. It seemed like everyone's attention was on something. Noticing what it was, she saw Naruto squatting on the table, closely glaring at Sasuke.

Kotomi had an awkward expression. "What in the world are they doing..?"

Some guy sitting in front of them accidentally bumped Naruto, making the two 'have a moment'. At this point, the entire class was quiet.

Kotomi was using all her willpower to not bust out laughing. "Where's my camera?" Patting her pockets, she finally found it. Taking a quick picture, she was waiting to see if it showed up well.

The screen of the camera showed the perfect angle of Naruto and Sasuke's accidental kiss. She snickered to herself. "This will be perfect blackmail when I need it." Smirking to herself, Kotomi put away her camera and headed back towards her class. She felt like she didn't need to worry about her brother anymore.

During lunch, Kotomi was with her classmate, Tsubaki. They were both eating a rice ball together while sitting on a bench.

Tsubaki swallowed his riceball before speaking up. "So... Do you know who's in your brother's squad yet?"

Kotomi shook her head. "Not yet. I was going to try to find him after I'm done here and ask." She had a feeling Naruto would be in the same squad as him, but who else?

"Was your brother doing ok?"

Kotomi has a shaky smile. "He was more than just ok."

"What do you mean by that?"

"Nothing, nothing!" Finishing her last bite of the riceball, Kotomi sat up from the bench. "I'm going to go find my brother. I'll meet up with you later, ok?"

Slightly blushing, Tsubaki nodded. "Sure. Ok." Hearing Kotomi walking away, he was watching her back. His blush deepened, soon averting his gaze away.

Kotomi was walking by herself, thinking to herself. "Is Naruto really in my brother's squad? Guess I'll find out when I ask him. But where is he anyway?" All of a sudden, Kotomi heard something running towards her. She saw that it was her brother with a distressed expression. "Onii-san!"

It didn't look like he was going to stop, rushing past her as he shouted, "I need to take a shiiiiiiiit!"

Kotomi saw her 'brother' rush past her, a smoke of sand dust trailing behind him. She had an awkward expression on her face. "I never seen him like that before..." Looking like she was smelling something awful, Kotomi quickly covered her nose. "Ew! What the heck did he eat?!" She was trying everything to keep herself from throwing up.

Later that day, Kotomi was cooking dinner for both her and Sasuke. She heard the door opening, seeing Sasuke walking towards the kitchen. "Welcome home, Onii-san."

For some reason, Sasuke looked annoyed. "Do you really have to make that today?"

Kotomi just blinked. "What are you talking about? I always cook dinner."

Sasuke let out a sigh. "My sensei said to not eat dinner or breakfast since we're doing some kind of special test tomorrow."

"Oh... Uh... I'll just save some for you tomorrow after you're done with your test then."

Sasuke raised his hand in dismissal. "You don't have to."

Now Kotomi was getting worried. "Alright..." Silence filled the room. "I wanted to ask, are you alright? It seemed like you had the runs today."

"What?" It took Sasuke to figure out what she was talking about until it hit him. "Oh. It was just that idiot transformed as me."

Kotomi started giggling. "I was about to say! I would never imagine you doing that ever!" She paused for a moment. "So... Who's in your squad? And who's your sensei?"

Sasuke looked even more annoyed. "That idiot Naruto and that annoying Sakura. And Kakashi-sensei."

Kotomi's eyes began to sparkle. "Naruto's in your squad?! How wonderful!"

"It's not wonderful at all!" Sasuke let out a sigh. "Anyway, I'm going to bed. I have to be up really early tomorrow." He began to walk towards his room, closing the door behind him.

Kotomi shook her head, letting out a sigh. "They'll become friends. I just know it." Even though Sasuke said not to save any food for him, she stored some in a container, storing it into the refrigerator.

After dinner, Kotomi was putting together pictures in a picture book. Next to a newer picture book, there was an older picture book that had some wrinkled pages. She remembered that the third hokage gave it to her personally.

A flashback started, the third hokage was inside her home, handing her the picture book. "This was one of the things the investigators found."

Kotomi received it, seeing that it was a picture book of her family. She remembered that her mother would always put pictures together. She felt her eyes getting watery, but held them back. "Thank you, Hokage-sama."

The flashback ended, tears were in Kotomi's eyes. She was so glad that she at least had pictures of her family to always cherish. The life that used to be. But now it was no more than a tragic memory.

Putting the picture she took of Sasuke today in the new picture book, Kotomi began writing a short description next to it. Onii-san's first day of being a ninja. The picture was none other than her brother and Naruto's accidental kiss.

A/N: I had to put that episode in this story. It's one of my favorites, and it brings back so many memories! To this day, Naruto having the runs still cracks me up!
