ALANNA'S POV

Everyone knew that Jamie had been arrested in relation of the murder of Katie . It had been the talk of the school for the past couple days , there wasn't anywhere to go where I could escape it.

" I'm leaving for school " I say to my brother as I walk down the stairs . Ever since Katie's murder I hadn't been back to my mum's house , something about the police came round asking for me so for now she wanted me to stay with brother .

" another fucking police car " my brother shouted and as I looked out of the window there was infact a police car cruising along the road , probably heading to Jamie's house .

I didn't bother saying bye to my brother again so I just headed towards the door and started my walk to school .

When I finally reached school there was nobody to be seen , that's when I glanced at the time of my phone which read 8.46am . Lessons had started over five minutes ago which meant I was late for probably about the hundredth time this year . I tried to slip through the corridors unnoticed but it was just my luck that the teacher in charge of lower school was walking in my direction down the corridor , two adults with visitor badges who I didn't recognise walking either side of her .

" Alanna Johnson you're late " Mrs Fenumore spoke up in her annoying voice .

" wow I never knew that " I say sarcastically which gets me two looks from both of other adults .

" enough of the attitude and get to your lesson " she says trying to sound strict but not really succeeding

I don't pick up my pace , infact I slow it down which was probably a good think as it meant that I got to overhear what she was saying about me .

" Her and Katie were both in my class in year two , both of them were lovely girl best of friends " She spoke to the two adults

" Oh really " I heard the man speak beside her

" Yeah it's shame she used to be really good at school , her brother was the same when I taught him " she continues which just annoyed me so I decided to stop eavesdropping and actually get to my lesson .

It was now break time and I was walking outside with Jade , we hadn't really said much to each other since being at school but it was a some what of a comfortable silence .

" Jade , darling the police are here and they want to speak to you " Both of our favourite teachers , Mrs Bailey spoke up as she walked over to us .

" Miss do I have to , I really don't want to " Jade said as her eyes started to become a bit teary

" Come on Jade just think of Katie yeah " Mrs Bailey spoke in a mother like voice

" Yeah go on Jade i'll see you at lunch " I say and with that I was now once again left alone in the playground .

The bell rung once again which signalled the end of break so I started heading to my lesson hoping not to be late this time . Infront of me Jamie's two best friends , Tommy and Ryan were walking infront of me . It wasn't until I heard my name involved in their conversation that I caught myself eavesdropping once again into their conversation.

" you know how the police came round to ours to you recon that they went round to Alanna's " Ryan asked Tommy who just shrugged at response I quickened my pace meaning that I was able to take over them .

" We'll why don't you ask " Tommy said as I started walking ahead of me .

That's when I heard footsteps quicken behind and the Ryan appear next to me .

" Alanna " Ryan spoke in a quiet voice as he attempted to keep up with my pace .

" What Ryan " I reply with a snappy tone

"erm I was just wondering if the police came to yours , you know about Katie just because they came to both mine and Tommy's house " He quickly rants

" they tried , I wasn't in " I reply bluntly

" oh okay " he stutters out

" is that all " I snap and when I get a nod from him I quickly walk off away from him .

I headed towards my lesson which was maths and I really wasn't looking forward to it . I was shit at maths which meant that I was stuck in the bottom set class where none of my friends were so I practically just meant that I daydreamed for the entire lesson .

As I went to walk into my lesson , Mrs Bailey was waiting outside my classroom with my maths teacher , Mrs Jones , almost looking like she was waiting for someone .

" Ah Alanna just the person I was looking for " Mrs Bailey says with a huge smile on her face

" why miss " I ask confused

" As you know , the police are here and they are wanting to talk to you " She says with a sweet tone .

As much as I hoped that I would be able to avoid talking to the police , I knew that they weren't going to stop trying until they had spoken to me . So I didn't really have a choice other than to follow Mrs Bailey . So that's what I did .

" Alanna could you just head in on there and have a seat " Mrs Fenumore says pointing to a office infront of her .

Walking in , I noticed the same two adults that I saw earlier sat down on two chairs .

" Hi Alanna " The male says with a smile

" Hiya " The female sat next to him says directly after

" Look , I'm D.I Bascombe , This is D.S Frank , we are really grateful that you agreed to talk to us " He said

" I agreed did it , and I thought that I just got dragged from me lesson " I say in a snarky tone

" Okay , we'll we did try to get you at home " He says

" Oh yeah my Mum told me about you lot banging on her door " I say , pulling a fake smile at the end of my sentence

" i'm the lead investigator on Katie's case , I wanted to give you my card which has the station number on the front and also a crime reference number on the back " He says pulling a card out of his wallet and then handing it to me

Once it was placed in my hand , I had no regret in ripping it in half and chucking it back down onto the table which was infront of us .

" Look , uh , we can tell you that we have arrested , uh , one suspect all right " He said , I think it was a bit surprised by my reaction

" Yeah , Jamie " I say quickly

" But we need some more information , both on the murder weapon which we don't yet have and why the suspect did it " He says not really acknowledging what I just said

" Alanna , you were good friends with Katie . That's right , isn't it " The lady spoke up for the first time

" Yeah " I mumble quietly

" Can you tell us about her " He says firmly

" Ain't you got a kid in the school " I ask D.I Bascombe , changing the subject

" Yeah , yeah " He replies hesitantly

" Adam , right " I ask in which he mumbles along to

" He's off if you didn't know , he didn't get your cheekbones did he " I say with a slight smirk

" I don't see what that has to do " He starts saying before I interrupt him

" Can you tell me about him " I ask , and there was silence as he didn't reply to my question

" Listen , all you need to know is she's dead which she shouldn't be cause she got stabbed and I want to know when you're going to lock that murdering scum up " I say raising my voice at the final part .

" Was Katie happy " He asks , ignoring my little outburst

" We'll she didn't fucking kill her self " I scream standing up and banging my fists onto the table .

" Alanna calm down " Mrs Fenumore

" You're asking my to calm down when they are trying to blame her for it " I say , my voice raising everytime a word came out of my mouth .

That's when Mrs Bailey came into the room because none of three adults in the room were able to diffuse the situation.

" Alanna love come on let's go " She says carefully guiding me out of the room .

D.I BASCOMBE'S POV

" we'll she's a piece of work " I say whilst sighing

" You could say that again " Misha says matching my tone .

" She always has been , got worse when her dad went to prison " Mrs Fenumore spoke up before she left the room .
