Chapter 12

02:56, 11 November 2024

Estelle POV

Why?

Why does this happen to me.

Once, ok, but twice?

"AHHHHH!"

Electricity scorches my body, opening my eyes I stare at the white ceiling in terror. Then it stops, breathing heavy, I start to thrash.

Bound, tied down by my wrist and ankles, cold and nude I look around at the room full of lab coats and advanced technology.

A doctor looks at me, before writing something down.

"Glad you're finally up. We have a lot of work to do. My name is Dr. Hickle, and I'm in charge for advancing human evolution."

Glaring at him I try to break free, trying to use my abilities, electricity fills my body making me cry out.

"AHHHHH! STOP IT! STOP!"

It ends, making Hickle smile, "Use your abilities again and I'll up the volts. Now where was I...oh yes! You have a remarkable ability, and if we tap into that then we can evolve the human body. Make it better, stronger, mutant."

I glare at him, he continues, "All you have to do is stay there and look pretty."

This is the start, time means nothing as they test me. Injecting me, extracting blood, and completing the machine, there masterpiece.

How long has it been?

It couldn't have been long but it feels like it.

I'm drained.

Needles injected in my body, thick tubes connect to the various machines around the lab. My stomach rumbles, lips dry, skin cold and weak. It's the only thing that tells me time is moving, that these moments are passing.

Looking at Hickle he smiles, "Your first week has gone by successfully! Now, it's time for you to go to sleep."

My eyes grow heavy, as darkness consumes me.

No POV

The week long mission has come to an end for the X-Men. Longer than expected but successful nonetheless.

Instead of being welcomed by Estelle's smile or opening the doors to her sweet melody's they receive silence.

Logan tenses, her scent faint, dim. Scrambling he looks through the footage, quickly witnessing her being dragged off in a white van.

His blood runs cold.

This is the beginning of there search, of raiding various locations, using there connections, tracking her through satellites only to lead to constant dead ends.

A month has passed since that day, a month of Logan slipping. Losing his mind as his heart hardens with every passing moment.

That's until, Jean is finally able to find a link. After weeks of failing a fragment of her mind opens to her, enough to find her in the vast world.

Thick within the mountains of the Himalayas they fly to the central location of a secret lab.

Unprepared for what's coming, Logan glares at the world below, hoping he's not too late.

Not like it mattered, the brown-skinned woman has already lost her mind.

Estelle POV

How long has it been?

I forgot.

I want to leave.

I want to go home.

Then leave.

Yes, I need to leave.

No Matter what.

No matter what.

No POV

She mumbles to herself, but no one cared, no one noticed.

Using her powers the electricity spreads through her body. She screams but she doesn't stop, making the scientist scramble.

Hickle sees this as an opportunity, he hooks her up to the machines. Stepping inside the machine the glass doors closes while his assistant starts it up. Her abilities manipulate his DNA making him shift, becoming stronger, smarter, better.

But she didn't stop, so the machine doesn't, causing it to overload and die. The glass door burst, Hickle slips out weak and angered as the smoke fills his space.

But it was already too late.

The thick metal has already begun to rust, allowing her break it with ease. Falling forward, she hits the floor, sitting up slowly she mumbles.

"No matter what."

As Hickle stands he curses under his breath ordering the other scientists to get detain her. She stands slowly, eyes blank, dead.

Gripping his head, he ages, body growing old and wrinkled. Bones once strong now frail, he try's to break free from her grip but he's unable to.

Slamming his head against the wall he dies in an instant. Releasing him his body drops, fear fills the air.

She mumbles to herself, "No matter what..."

They pull out their guns, packed full of darts but some are smart enough to run.

They won't get far.

A burst of energy fill her as she runs head first to the crowd. Anyone who fell victim to her touch face death.

Organs premature, minds broken or bodies withered, they fell at her whim. Blood fills the room staining her body. Chasing after them like the grim reaper their souls are collected, fueling her to continue.

Slipping through the halls, breaking down the doors she appears, holding out her hand to destroy. Walking towards a woman weeping, "Please! I'm sorry! I'M SOR-"

Touching her forehead her youth is sucked away, leaving a withering mess.

"No matter what..."

Her brain shrinks, eyes rolling back, Estelle squeezes causing her head to bend and break. Hearing an ear piercing scream behind her she chases after it, shrinking the heart of the fearful man.

Only to be surrounded by the same tools that hurt her, she looks around, no life in sight. Not a sound fills the air, she feels at peace.

Until the doors burst open revealing the X-Men, "Estelle!"

The scene shakes them, broken bodies, blood stained walls and a death stained air. She turns her towards them slowly, her mind goes blank.

No matter what.

Looking at Scott she run towards him, ready to claim his soul.

Jean shouts, "SCOTT WATCH OUT!"

She pushes him just in time, her fingertips brush his glasses causing them to fall apart. Forcing his eyes close, Jean try's to stunt her only for her broken mind to send pain through her body.

"AHH!"

Thoughts of anger, sadness and pain fill her thoughts. The tiny spark she felt that lead them to her is gone, too deep within the waves of darkened flames in her mind.

Staring at Jean Estelle frowns reaching out her hand to end her. Morph turns into Colossus running to knock the brown woman out. Rouge shouts, "If she touches you, you'll die!"

Rouge quickly realizes how the scientists died, seeing how time was used against them. Rushing, she grabs a tranquillizing gun, aiming, she shoots, piecing her skin but it doesn't affect her.

Again, and again, littering her body with thorns of slumber. One by one they fall apart, landing on the ground, useless and dismembered.

Turning her attention to Rouge, the southern woman freezes. Her heart faces at the sight, unable to move as Estelle stomps on the broken glass to get to her.

Rouge whispers her name, "Estelle..."

Storm quickly moves the winds, aiming a bolt of lighting. Hitting her, she screams out, pain shoots through her body but she only falters for a moment. Her screams come to an end as she continues her pursuit to Rogue, shocked storm hits her again.

Hitting Estelle she doesn't react, again, nothing. Stopping a few feet in front of Rouge storm hits her one last time, taking it, Estelle turns her head to the flying woman.

No matter what.

Ripping a pipe from the wall, she throws it, hitting Storms head with the force to knock her back. Landing on the ground, head bleeding from the rough material.

Running over to her, Logan stands in front of her. Blades ready, she holds out her hand, ready to snuff out his life.

As the blades pieces her hand, nothing happens. Blood spills running down her arm, empty eyes meet his as the pain sets in. His blades begin to shake, sharpen, causing her to grunt.

Logan speaks, voice thick with fear, "Estelle...please don't make me to this. Please hear me."

Staring at him, something clicks, as she mumbles his name, "Logan?"

Then her world goes black.

Retracting his claws, she falls.

The mighty X-Men defeated a broken woman.

Picking her up, Logan keeps her close, seeing the scares and bruises on her body. Walking past them, the X-Men return to the ship and head home.
