24. Torturing
02:24, 15 March 2014"Hello Elena," Ava said. Elena's head was really messy. There was everything everywhere and her humanity off didn't really help anything. Damon walked next to Ava and Elena was laying in a bed. Ava was trying to get her feel something. Damon and her were making everyone she had ever loved to visit her, Jenna, Alaric, Jeremy, her mom, her dad.
"What should I feel?" she asked and turned her face to the two. She was completely emotionless, not any expression on her face she got up and waved her feet at the brink of the bed.
"This is your old room. No regrets of burning your house down?" Ava asked and Elena shook her head. She got out of her head and Damon followed her.
*
"We should change scenery," Ava said and Damon nodded.
"Just follow my lead," he said. They got back at it.
*
Elena was walking at the high school yard. She saw familiar faces everywhere, her old friends, new friends. Everything in that place was beautiful, even the annoying jocks.
"Elena you're here," she heard Caroline say with her perky and high voice.
"Hey I got valedictorian. You can help me write my speech," the blonde girl said to Elena.
"Pass," Elena said with an annoyed tone.
"Oh, come on. We're graduating this year. This is it. We're gonna have to soak up every second before," Caroline tried to cooe her.
"Wait. Something is not right. I don't want to be here," Elena said and stopped instantly.
"What is wrong with you?" Damon asked from the backround. He was sitting on a table and Ava was standing next to him with his hands crossed.
"Don't you want to be with your friends, graduation parties, caps, gowns? You know the drill," Damon continued.
"What is this?" she started and everyone around them disappeared. The school yard was empty, no one was there.
"We're not really here, are we? We're in my head," Elena started to figure it out. Ava stepped a few steps closer. Damon wiggled his eyebrows.
"Relax," Damon and Ava said almost at the same time.
"We just want to show you all the things you've been missing out on since you took the giant leap over the cuckoo's nest," Damon continued and Ava nodded and snorted quietly. Elena was glaring around her and trying to fight.
"Last thing I remember..." Elena started.
"Let me guess..." Damon said and started to move towards Elena.
"Prom," Ava continued and walked over to her aswell.
"Beautiful dress," Damon said.
"Gorgeous hair," Ava continued again.
"You trying to murder Bonnie. It's a good thing I was there to take care of you," Damon said with a cocky face which made Elena and Ava both snort.
"You starved me. You two and Stefan," she said with frowned eyebrows.
"Yeah well, we had to keep you weak so we could bring you here. See the way I figure it is, I can make you nostalogic, then you're already halfway to getting your humanity back," Damon said.
"This isn't gonna' work."
"There are other ways to provoke your emotions," Ava said with a wide smirk.
"Any progress?" Stefan asked from the stairs. Ava was leaning on to the wall, they were in the cellar. Damon was leaning on the wall next to Ava nad he shook his head.
"She is fighting," Damon said and rubbed his chin. Ava nodded slightly.
"You have been in her head for hours and still no progress?"
"We might need to do something else than going through her mind," Ava said and both of the men turned to her with raised eyebrows.
"Like what?" they asked almost at the same time.
"Well, I could try to compel her," she said, "but she is on vervain."
Damon and Stefan snorted and Ava felt Damon going through Elena's mind again. She coughed to have their attention again.
"That would mean that I would have to drain her out of it," she said cheerfully.
"Do you think this is funny?" Damon asked. Ava stopped leaning to the wall and took a step forward.
"Yes I do think this is quite amusing. You two trying to get your Elena's humanity back. Damon do you think she still loves you when the sire breaks?" Ava asked and got pinned to the wall. Ava grabbed him by the hand and broke it. Damon whined in pain and held his arm. It started healing and Ava smirked.
"Please," Ava said and walked over to the black safebox. She opened it and Elena's almost lifeless body dropped out. Damon walked over to them and Stefan got down a few steps.
"You look miserable," Ava stated and Elena chuckled hoarse.
"You can all go to hell," Elena said and coughed. Ava kneeled down to her level and grabbed her by the arm. She lifted her up and started to walk her out of the dark cellar.
"Excuse me what are you doing?" Damon asked and Stefan was standing on Ava's way.
"Going to get her turn her humanity on," Ava said and smiled.
"Torture, I mean," she smiled and Elena glared at Stefan and Damon with frowned eyebrows.
"Maybe if we should do it," Stefan said and started to take Elena away from Ava.
"Okay, but if you don't succeed you give me free hands of torturing her," Ava said and Damon got behind her.
"Fine," he said and Ava turned to him.
"Okay then. Great. I'm thrilled to see you fail," she smirked and walked away from the cellar, Damon, Stefan and Elena following her. Ava heard Caroline's high voice outside talking to someone. She heard Rebekah and Matt. She saw a flash of blonde hair and walked over to them while Stefan and Damon walked somewhere with Elena.
"Hello," she said and watched mostly Matt. She glanced Rebekah and smiled without saying anything special. She watched as they got awkward. She looked at them amused before said anything.
"There is something going on here," she said and walked to Rebekah.
"I didn't know that Matt liked this one," she whispered. Rebekah snorted.
"What do you want Ava?"
"Just to make some friends. Matt and I are friends, isn't that right?" Ava asked from Matt with a wide smirk. Matt didn't say anything just forced a smile on his face and avoided eye contact.
"This is awkward enough with out me," Ava said with an awkward smile and then turned to Rebekah.
"Is your brother home?" she asked carefully which made Rebekah snort.
"Like you care about him."
"What is that suppose to mean?" Ava asked and raised her eyebrow.
"Nik doesn't care about you, Ava," Rebekah said with confidence, she was sure of it.
"Then I guess a talk doesn't hurt anyone?" Ava almost shouted. She was getting hyped from all the fighting. She felt like her human features were coming out more. Rebekah tilted her head and noticed that Ava was a bit angry.
"What's the matter Ava? I thought you were the master of hiding feelings," Rebekah said with a crooked smirk. Ava braethed in heavily and then fliched a smile.
"I am," she said and turned in her heels. She heard a painful scream. She rushed to the place where it came and saw Elena's skin nearly on flames. Her skin was scabby but she healed quickly.
"That feels better, huh? How about a little gratitude or any human emotion whatsoever? And we can stop this. I didn't quite catch that," Damon said. Elena was squeezing her hands in to fists and her knuckles were white from squeezing.
"I said, I'm gonna kill you," Elena spat. Progress, Ava thought to herself.
"Bingo. See? There's a little rage. I should have figured that'd be the first emotion that came out of you. I tend to pull that out of people," Damon said snarky and Ava bit her lip and snickered. Damon and Stefan noticed her standing next to the doorframe.
"Great, you have gotten started!" she said and clapped her hands together. Elena tilted her head towards Ava and she chuckled darkly and sadly.
"Join the party Ava. I am sure Damon would love that," she said and turned her look to Damon. Ava gritted her teeth but walked to Elena with a smile on her face.
"I know right. Because I am so lovable person," Ava smiled and walked in front of Elena. She placed her hand on her chest and slid it to the heart's place.
"Just like that," Ava remainded her and walked next to Stefan who was holding the curtains closed.
"Elena, look at me. We don't want to do this, ok? You can stop this right now. It's your choice," Stefan said and crossed his arms. He looked at Elena with compassion and love but Elena just snorted.
"I kind of want to do this," Ava said and smiled to Elena. She stared at her straight in the eyes and smiled a vicious smile.
"Kind of funny, actually, you being the one to pull back the curtain. I bet part of you enjoys it since, you know, I dumped you and all," Elena said.
"Wow. That was downright vindictive," Damon said and grinned.
"See? I think now we're breaking through that tough candy shell and getting into the ooey-gooey rich center of your humanity. This is good. I think we should shine some light on the subject," Damon continued and glanced at Stefan.
"Let me guess... This is gonna hurt you a lot more than it hurts me," Elena said with a tired look.
"No actually this doesn't hurt me at all," Ava said walked to the curtains and opened them wide. She watched Elena scream in pain, trying to get out of the chains that she were attached. Ava was actually enjoying this. She closed the curtains before her skin started to burn up in flames.
"I'm really going to enjoy this," Ava said and burst to laughter Damon and Stefan watching her laugh unapproovetly.
***
Elena screamed in pain, once again. She was starting to get pissed off.
"You're gonna thank me for this. After you turn it back on, you'll realize life with no emotions blew," Damon said and smiled a bit.
"You know what else blew?" Elena asked with an annoyed face.
"Being sired to you. Going every day believing that I was in love with you. I remember every horrible moment of it. And you... So scared that it wasn't real. Well, guess what. It wasn't. You were right. So go ahead. Keep trying to get the old me back. Who knows? Maybe Stefan and I will give it another go," Elena was clearly trying to annoy them. Damon's face got sad and Ava hated seeing him sad.
"And maybe after you get your humanity back I will kill everyone you love, while you are watching. How does that sound Elena?" Ava asked with a high toned voice. Elena freed herself from the chains and ran to the window. She opened the curtains and let herself suffer. She started to burn. Damon attacked to the fire extinguisher and he stopped the fire. Stefan was behind Elena keeping her from moving back to the sun. Elena laughed.
"i am the girl that you love. You wouldn't do anything to actually hurt me. You just proved that. So what do I really have to be afraid of?" she laughed and rolled in the ground. Ava hadn't moved.
"And that is why I wanted to torture her," Ava said and the three of them all turned their heads to her.
"She would be afraid of me. Because I don't love her. I don't even know if I like this Elena," she said and smiled crookedly.
"I'll lock her back up," Ava said and walked to Elena and grabbed a tight grip off of her hand.
***
Ava got Elena locked up in the black safe in the cellar. Elena hit the door weakly and it made Ava chuckle.
"Elena come on. Just turn it back on, what are you afraid?" Ava asked and she heard a silent growl.
"Go away," Elena whispered. Ava leaned on the safe and bit her lip.
"I had my feelings off for over hundred years."
"Then you should know that having feelings suck," Elena said from the safe. Ava chuckled slightly.
"And the more people you kill when your emotions are off, the more getting them back sucks. You better do it soon because Stefan and Damon are up to something. Just saying."
"I thought you hate me," Elena said and Ava knew she smiled.
"I don't hate you. I just hate the fact that sweet Elena Gilbert turned in to her doppelgänger," Ava said and they both got quiet. Ava heard the door close and sharpened her hearing.
"You know what-" Elena started but Ava shushed her. She concentrated to her hearing.
"So that went well," she recognized the voice. It was Stefan Salvatore.
"Every other vampire turns it on, no problem. You kill. You feed. You do all the awful things that a vampire does. And then when you're done, you turn it back on. Why is she being so stubborn?" another male voice asked. It was clear that Damon and Stefan were talking about Elena.
"Because she has nothing to come back to. Her home's gone. Her family's gone. She alienated her friends. She destroyed her relationships."
"No. She wants to come back. Scaring the hell out of her should have worked. She's smart. She knows we're not gonna hurt her," Damon said.
"All right. So we get somebody else, somebody who really will hurt her," Stefan replied to him.
"Who? Katherine?" Damon asked. Ava was a bit disappointed that neither of them thought about her.
"Think about it. She's the reason Jeremy's dead, right? So if anybody's gonna provoke an emotion, it's her."
"So we call her and then what? Beg her to help us out of the kindness of her own heart? You kidding me?"
"Katherine was just abandoned by Elijah. She has nothing. She has no one. We invite her into our house to come torture Elena. There's no way she's gonna turn that down," Stefan said victoriously. When Ava heard what Stefan said a wide smile appeared on her face. Oh she was going to like this plan.
