11. Youth knows no pain

22:10, 28 January 2014

Ava was in the bathroom. She was showering. The Salvatore house was the only one with vervain free water so there was a small line of vampires behind her. Elena was knocking on the door hard and Ava snorted.

"In a minute!" she shouted to her and the answer was a bored sigh. The water was softly dripping on her skin. She got out of there and glanced herself through the mirror and smiled. She dried her hair with a towel and her whole body as well. She put the towel around her and left the bathroom. On the way she bumped on Elena.

"There's another bathroom with a shower," she said and raised her eyebrow.

"Stefan's in there..." she said awkwardly.

"Oh, no shared showers?" Ava asked with a teasing smile.

"No, we are going through some things," Elena said and Ava nodded. She did not need to hear more. She walked to the living room where she saw a familiar back. Damon was talking to him and he noticed her.

"He wants something from you," Damon said and the man turned to her.

"Kol," She gasped and started to walk determinedly towards him. She kept her towel on the whole time and she smacked him on the cheek. He held his cheek with his mouth dramatically open.

"I most definitely did not expect that," he said and smirked.

"Asshole," she spat and walked away from them.

"I'm many things but I can assure you that I'm not that," he said cocky and smirked. Damon chuckled and watched the two, he was amused. Ava snorted to him and pushed Kol out of the way.

"Where are you going?" Kol asked and she turned.

"To change," she said and dropped the towel. She had her back on the boys and felt the looks burn her back. She smirked and got to her room. There she changed on underwear and black lace shirt, it covered her body of course, and light beige skinny jeans and white high heels. Her hair was wavy and open and she put on the tiniest amount of makeup. She took the stake and hid it behind her back. She walked back to the lounge/living room and took a drink.

"I came to get the white oak stake," Kol said and walked to Ava. She laughed.

"Do you think I'm that stupid Kol Mikaelson? I'll lose my leverage," she said and took a sip of the drink.

"And I have a dance to attend so..." Ava said with an attitude. Kol laughed and walked to Ava. She tensed up and backed away.

"Give it to me, or I'll kill you," Kol said and got Ava between his body and the wall. Damon who was still in the room got closer to them. Ava just smirked to Kol and pressed the stake to his heart. Kol backed a bit.

"That's the thing, Kol. You didn't even notice as I sneaked in to your mind and figured what you were here for. You have gotten sloppy my friend," she smiled a wicked smile and threw the stake between her hands.

"You better give this to Klaus. If you don't, I will come after you and, oh well, let's just say that I'm as strong as you, don't know why," she said and threw the stake to him.

"Trust is a strong thing Kol, and I trust you with this," she said and walked to Damon with her hands crossed.

"Fine," he said and left the house. Ava sighed and showed her nervousness. She glanced at Damon who looked at her impressed. Ava smiled and poured more liquor to her glass. She drank it immediately.

"That was fun," Damon said and glanced to Ava. She breathed air in and out. She played with her ring and looked at the roof. She bit her lip and turned to Damon. She leaped in his arms and hugged him.

"I will always be the one who falls in love and is betrayed," she whispered and hugged him long with tears in her eyes. He hugged her back and pet her hair.

"I will always be the one who never gets the girl," he said back to her and they chuckled sadly. They had a bonding moment. Ava pulled back from the hug and smiled to him.

"I need to stop being friends with Katherine. I think I'm becoming her," she said and looked down.

"You are nothing like Katherine. You're Angeline Petrova, sure the last name is same but you're nothing like Katherine," he said and lifted her head so she had to look in to his eyes. She smiled and her dimples appeared on her cheeks. Then Damon kissed her. He didn't kiss her like he had before, now he kissed her with gentle and loving lips. They softly backed away from it and Ava smiled.

"What was that?" she asked softly and smiled to him. He just smirked pet her cheek with a soft smile.

"Am I interrupting something?" Elena said with a towel on. She raised her eyebrows and crossed her hands. She looked jealous and Ava frowned her eyebrows.

"Nothing," Ava said blushing. She walked away from Damon who just looked down. She would have wanted to stay there but Elena ruined the moment.

"I'll see you tonight," Ava said softly when she was at the door. She passed Elena and left the house.

It had been a long day with all that awkwardness with Elena and Damon and Ava. Ava was avoiding Damon and had managed to do that well although they lived in the same house. It was dance night and Ava was excited as hell. She didn't want to admit that. It was an hour to the dance and she had the dress on. The beautiful blue dress had a corset and it was an off the shoulder neckline dress. The dress had open back and a big puffy princess skirt. She had her family necklace on, it was a light blue Safire. Her hair was in big curls and she had a smoky eye as her makeup.

"You look beautiful," Damon whispered. Ava turned to him, he was standing at the doorframe, smiling his crooked smile.

"Don't sneak up on me. I might accidentally kill you," she stated and walked to him. Her high heels added another 10 cm to her height and she was almost as tall as Damon. He had a coursage on his hand. Ava chuckled silently when Damon took her hand and bounded it to her hand.

"Thank you for doing this to me, Damon. I don't want to waste this moment. Could we pretend we're in love?" Ava asked with tears in her eyes. Damon nodded and smiled little.

"Thank you," she whispered and shed a tear. Damon pulled her in to a hug.

"Shall we?" he asked and hooked his hand. Ava smiled and wiped the tear away and grabbed his arm.

They got to the dance with Damon's blue convertible, it was a beautiful place, Tyler's house. Ava wanted to throw up from the clichés but she just kept smiling.

They saw Elena and Stefan inside and Damon glanced at Elena. She had a red dress on and her hair was wavy. She was really beautiful and it killed Damon. He lowered his look but Ava raised his eyes.

"We are in love, remember?" she said and smiled.

"Right!" he said and kissed Ava's hand.

"Come and dance with me m'lady," he said and bowed. Ava giggled and nodded.

"Surely m'lord," Ava said and curtsied. There was a classical song coming and everyone was dancing waltz so did they. They started to waltz to the music and Ava glanced to Stefan and Elena who were standing in the side.

"I thought high school dances were about dancing music," she whispered to Damon who sighed.

"Yeah well, this is Caroline's version," he said and made Ava chuckle.

"I have been in many Ball's and Dance's in the 1800s," Ava said a bit loud and some girl looked at her strangely.

"Ha ha!" Damon tried to cover it up by laughing. Ava grinned.

"Let's go get something to drink," she whispered and took Damon by the hand. Elena and Stefan bumped in to them.

"I didn't know that this is a public dance," Stefan said tart and Ava gave him an evil glance.

"I'm almost a student," she said and watched Stefan with frowned eyebrows.

"And I'm almost a teacher," Damon joked. Only one person laughed and it was Ava who quickly stopped by the judging faces of friends.

"I'm sorry, was that inappropriate?" she asked with her hand over her mouth. "Come on we are here to have fun, nothing more," she convinced them. They just stared at them and she snapped.

"I could kill someone just to get the attention away from me," she said and raised her eyebrows.

"But I wouldn't do that, because you are my friends. At least I thought you were," she said and walked to the punch bowl.

"So this theme is some kind of old 1800s themed Dance?" she asked from the girl over the punch bowl. She nodded to Ava and she chuckled. She could figure so many things that were wrong. It was too dark, people had funny looking dresses and guys really didn't have right suits at all. Ugh, non-alcoholic punch.

"Ava right?" Jeremy said and Ava almost chocked on her drink. She nodded and wiped her mouth. Jeremy smiled.

"How old are you?" Ava asked with a embarrassed smile.

"17, how about you?" he asked and poured some punch to himself.

"19, but you know I was born in 1791 so you do the math," she said and he chuckled silently.

"Must be rough being dragged in to these vamp circles," Ava continued and pat his shoulder. It was like an electric shock when she touched Jeremy. She took her hand away from his shoulder and stared at him. He had puckered eyebrows and he called her name. She didn't hear it, she fainted.

"Damon," Jeremy whisper yelled and Elena gasped as she saw Ava lay on the floor. Damon ran to Ava and kneeled to her level. She was shaking and her eyes were white.

"What did you do Jeremy?" he asked with anger. Elena ran to them and so did Stefan.

"Stop blaming Jeremy," she said to Damon who snorted.

"Nothing! She touched me and then she just fell," Jeremy whisper yelled. Damon lifted her in to his arms and carried her away from the house in silence. When they were outside she started to cough.

"Put me down," she whispered to Damon hoarse. Damon let her stand on her own and she stared at Jeremy. She walked to him and touched his right shoulder.

"Take your jacket off," Ava said and started to help him whilst Jeremy didn't understand anything. And neither did Stefan, Elena or Damon. She got his jacket off and unbuttoned his shirt and took it away as well.

"Why am I topless?" Jeremy asked.

"Ava you could get arrested you know," Damon cracked.

"Oh shut up Damon," she snapped and placed both of her hands on Jeremy's shoulder. She closed her eyes and breathed in.

"Could you tell us what the hell you are doing!?" Elena shouted and moved to them she tried to touch Ava. Ava looked straight to Elena's eyes and Elena started to scream in pain. Stefan went straight to her and Ava released Jeremy.

"What are you?" Damon asked, he was now with Elena who was still in pain.

"Make it stop!" she squirmed on the ground. Ava placed her hand on Elena's head and Elena started to gasp.

"The pain, it stopped," she stated and rose from the ground. Everyone looked at Ava.

"Jeremy is a hunter. He is one of the five. He needs to start his training. The more vampires he kills the more the mark grows."

"A what?" Damon asked. Ava smirked. Damon noticed that Ava's eyes were crystal blue. Ava woke from the trance and her eye color went back to green.

"Where am I?" she asked and looked at Damon.
