Chapter 24: Hopeful

Narrator POV

There he was... Sitting in the darkness even after 3 months. Never went to work, never went out into the sunshine, but only the night to buy more soju. His mail still sat on his mat in front of his door. His hair grew long, his facial hair grew as well, and his eyes drooped down even more than before. He looked like an old man at this point. His eyes, red, from the lack of sleep he barely even got. The more he slept, the more dreams and depression he would get after imagining of HyeRim. He just stood over the remains of his living room and headed towards his room. He thought that it would be best to get at least a few more minutes of shuteye. As he got into bed, he tucked himself in and just stared at the ceiling. Before he knew it, his phone suddenly lit up. His face turned towards the phone almost immediately. He saw the ID and saw that it was HyeRim. He exhaled deeply and put his head back down onto his pillow and tried to go back to sleep. A few minutes later, his phone notification ringtone went off. It was the ringtone for a voicemail, but he didn't want to listen to it at all. All he wanted to do is just... Do... Absolutely nothing.... Chanyeol... Had created another him inside himself to protect himself from the large amount of pain and sadness. He was no longer the happy, outgoing person he used to be, he was now silent, full of sadness, and a homebody, no longer wanting to know what was going on in the outside world.

I was standing in the kitchen, cutting some vegetables for dinner, until.

It was the same phone number as Sehun's, and Chanyeol, once again, didn't answer.

*Beep beep*

The phone machine went as Sehun had left a message.

"He-Hello?"

I soft voice said. Chanyeol's ears perked up as he heard her voice. He lifted his head and walked towards the phone machine.

"H-HyeRim?"

He said quietly after hearing her voice after so many months.

"C-Chanyeol.... I-I'm not sure if you got my other messages, but... I just knew I had to speak to you today... Sehun actually had a friend of his find your home phone number since you never ever gave it out... Actually... The reason why I'm calling you is because... Today.... Today is my wedding day..."

"Wedding day?"

Chanyeol said to himself bewildered.

"I... I was hoping to see you today... I... I haven't seen you in forever and *sniff* I was hoping you could see me on my happy day.... I... It's okay if you can't come because you're busy with work or something, but if you can come... You know... Kai made you his best man. Even though you weren't able to come to the parties and stuff, he still believes that you were his best friend... He told me he remembered that you used to be his biggest fan and that you guys were so close... *long pause* I... I hope you could be there and still be Kai's best man... I also... M-Miss you... Chanyeol... *cough cough* I... I have to go... G-Goodbye... Chanyeol."

*Beep*

The voicemail ended and Chanyeol stood there, bewildered... Chanyeol then thought at that moment... He thought of the time when Sehun had told him to either care about his own happiness and drown in sadness or care about HyeRim's happiness and start over again.

HyeRim POV

"Is he here?"

I asked. Sehun looked at me sadly and shook his head. My head lowered and I shook my head.

"No... I-I can't be sad on my wedding day..."

I said.

"Thanks Sehun.... It was worth a shot."

Sehun nodded and left the room. Everyone is still arriving, so I had to wait for about an hour.

"You look beautiful."

A lady came in. It was Kai's mother.

"T-Thank you Eomoni."

I said.

"You know... I was worried..."

I cocked my head in confusion and she continued.

"I was worried that Kai would marry someone problematic, but after meeting you a few months ago... I'm glad that he chose someone right. Someone whom he actually cares about...."

She said as she softly smiled. I smiled back and she then left.

About half an hour later, Kai's sister, my maid of honor, came into the room and said,

"It's almost time.... Are you nervous?"

She asked.

"A little."

I smiled.

"Don't be.... You're about to be married to someone that will care for you the rest of your life. Be happy about it."

She said, holding my hands. I nodded and stood next to the door, waiting for the time to come.

Narrator POV

It was finally time for the wedding and everyone sat in his or her pews, waiting for the wedding to finally start. The music began to start and the bridesmaids and groomsmen began to walk down the aisle. After they had all walked down the aisle, some people were shocked, but also happy to see him. Kai then walked down the aisle and stood in front of the whole church. It was then time for the bride to come in. HyeRim didn't have a father anymore, so Kai's father would have to do. Kai then saw HyeRim down the aisle right after the flower girls and ring bearer came down the aisle. She looked directly at Kai, but then noticed someone next to him. She smiled brightly as she saw someone she thought would never show up.

"Chanyeol."

She whispered. Chanyeol stood handsomely next to Kai. His hair was no longer long, but looked like the hair he had when he was with EXO. His facial hair was gone and he wore a suit with a red tie, which was the theme of the wedding. He smiled brightly as he saw HyeRim coming down the aisle in her white dress. Her dress shaped her body nicely and the back was bare. It was rather plain, but it was just how Kai liked it. Kai's eyes glistened as he saw HyeRim walk down the aisle in her beautiful dress. She then arrived next to him and held his hands. Chanyeol smiled as he saw her smile brightly. He always loved her big, bright smile. It was now time for the wedding to begin...

*Fast forward*

"Chanyeol!"

HyeRim said, as it was time for the after party of the wedding. She hugged him tightly as she saw him. He smiled and said,

"You look beautiful..."

HyeRim smiled with her eyes sparkling and said,

"I missed you."

Chanyeol nodded and said,

"I missed you too...."

"Aigoo... I... I don't know why I'm crying..."

HyeRim said while wiping away her tears. Chanyeol caressed her face and replied,

"Listen... About..."

Sehun the touched his shoulder and Chanyeol looked at him. HyeRim was waiting for him to speak, but Chanyeol shook his head.

"Actually... Never mind... It can wait."

Chanyeol finally said. Sehun then said,

"So... You decided to go for HyeRim's happiness after all."

"I did love her..."

Chanyeol replied as he saw HyeRim walking away.

"It took you that long to realize."

"It took that long and several voicemails to make me realize."

"So what are you going to do now?"

Sehun asked.

"I don't know... Maybe get back on my feet first. Get my job back, clean up my house."

Chanyeol said.

"Well you better get back on your feet now because Kris will be having his wedding soon too."

Sehun said as both Chanyeol and he saw Kris arm and arm with his girlfriend. Chanyeol chortled,

"I guess so..."

The wedding party then proceeded and by the end of the night, Kai and HyeRim went to their honeymoon.

"So how many kids do you want?"

Kai asked as he towered over HyeRim on the bed at their honeymoon spot in Jeju Island.

"I heard that the magic number is three... So three?"

"But I want more than three."

He pouted.

"It's all up to you."

HyeRim said.
