Chapter 4

12:46, 23 June 2023

The next morning Sam's eyes fluttered open. He had attempted to move when he realized Colby's arms were still wrapped around him, keeping him close. Sam smiled as he looked around at the discarded clothes scattered across Colby's floor, remembering the previous night. Sam carefully untangled himself from Colby's arms, but he was suddenly pulled back in.

" Don't leave," said Colby. His voice was groggy.

" I'm just going to shower," said Sam.

" Can I come?" asked Colby.

" You wish," said Sam, kissing Colby's forehead. " You sleep, I'll see you later."

" You'd better," said Colby.

Sam quickly gathered his clothes off of Colby's floor and then went to shower. Sam met Colby in the kitchen a little while later. He was sipping on some coffee. He had some waiting for Sam as well. Sam took a sip and then began to make some breakfast as Colby watched him. Sam smirked as he glanced behind him.

" You like what you see?" laughed Sam.

" A lot!" said Colby.

" I'm only making breakfast," said Sam.

" You look gorgeous no matter what you're doing," said Colby, walking over to Sam and wrapping his hands around his waist. " Just like last night."

Sam playfully elbowed him. " Fuck off," laughed Sam.

" If you two lovebirds are done, we need to leave for rehearsal in five," said Jake, peeking into the kitchen.

" Ugh," groaned Colby, annoyed. He rested his chin on Sam's shoulder.

Sam smiled at him and kissed him. " Go on," said Sam. " Don't wanna disappoint the Brockstars."

" You coming?" asked Colby.

"No, I think I'm gonna go for a run," said Sam.

" Okay, be careful," said Colby.

" Of course," said Sam.

" I'll see you after?" said Colby.

" Can't wait," said Sam.

Brennen was the last one to arrive at rehearsal. This had been a recurring thing for him, more so ever since he and Colby broke up. Colby could see how pissed Brennen still was about everything. Throughout the entire session, he had been looking for any excuse to get Colby alone. Finally, during break, he found that opportunity.

Colby was in his dressing room backstage, texting Sam when he suddenly heard the door open and then shut behind him. Colby spun around instantly.

" Relax Colby," said Brennen. " It's just me."

" How the fuck did you get in here?" asked Colby.

" You still hide the spare key in the same spot," said Brennen.

" Get the fuck out of here," said Colby, shoving Brennen.

" We seriously need to talk," said Brennen.

" No we don't," said Colby. " I have nothing to say to you." Colby turned away from him.

" Where's your new boy toy?" asked Brennen. " Is he back home in our room?"

" It's not our room, hasn't been for a while," said Colby.

"It could be again," said Brennen.

" In your fucking dreams," said Colby. " You need to leave now. I won't ask again."

" You turn your back on me and you're out of the band," said Brennen.

" You know what Brennen, I don't give a fuck," said Colby. " Fine, I'm out."

" You'd seriously give up all of this for him?" asked Brennen. " He's nothing but some fucktoy for you to drown your sorrows in."

Colby angrily marched over to Brennen. " Don't you dare talk about him like that," said Colby threateningly.

Brennen laughed. " Look at you," he said. " You're so broken without me. He's not gonna fix you Colby, only I can do that."

Brennen went to caress Colby's cheek, but Colby grabbed his hand and pushed it away.

"Don't fucking touch me," said Colby.

" You've gotten a lot braver since you left me," said Brennen. " You're not usually one to fight back."

" I'm tougher than I look," said Colby.

"Really? Well, what about Sam?" asked Brennen. " How tough is he?"

" Stay away from him," said Colby.

" You know what I'm capable of, Colby," said Brennen. " Remember what I did to you, well just imagine what I could do to him."

" You're not gonna touch him," said Colby.

" I won't," said Brennen. " If you break up with him and come back to me."

" No," said Colby.

" If you don't, I'll come for you both and you'll watch as I break him," said Brennen. " What's it gonna be, Colby?"

" Okay, fine, you win, I'll break up with him," said Colby. " Just, don't hurt him."

" He's safe, as long as you do what you're told," said Brennen. " Break his heart or I break him. I'd do it sooner rather than later and if you tell anyone about this, he's dead meat."

Colby had put on a tough face as Brennen stared him down but inside his heart was breaking.

"I'll see you later, babe," said Brennen.

Brennen smirked at Colby as he walked away. He quietly made his way out of Colby's dressing room. Colby stood there, tears forming in his eyes as he watched Brennen leave.

When Sam arrived back home, he made his way upstairs to Colby's room. Colby was sitting on his bed, scrolling on his phone. Colby glanced up to look at Sam but said nothing. Sam however, had seen his red and puffy eyes, he had been crying.

" Babe, you okay?" asked Sam.

" I'm fine," said Colby. " It's just that...this was a mistake."

" What?" asked Sam. " What are you talking about?"

" Us," said Colby.

" Colby, please, let's talk about this," said Sam.

" No, Sam!" said Colby. " We're over, okay! Just leave me alone!" Colby slammed his bedroom door in Sam's face.

On the other side of the door, Colby slouched down to the floor, quietly crying. His heart, breaking.

Sam stood in disbelief outside Colby's door. Tears formed in Sam's eyes and he turned to go to his room. For days, Colby avoided eye contact with Sam and refused to talk to him. Everytime Sam even came within feet of Colby, he would just leave or pretend not to be interested. Colby was heartbroken over everything and he wanted to tell Sam about it all. Everything he had done, he had only done to protect him, but he couldn't say anything, so they both suffered in silence.

Song 6: Sam.

Sam sings this song as an attempt to get Colby to hear him, to talk. Over the course of the song, Sam begins to realize that their relationship really was a mistake and after being heartbroken twice, he decides to leave the Traphouse and LA to move back to his hometown of Kansas.

Sam has been trying for days to get Colby to say anything to him, hell, even just look at him. If only Colby would tell him what he had done to make him think this was all a mistake.

Sam watched Colby come up the stairs to his room. He didn't even look at Sam, he just went into his room, shutting the door behind him.

Sam begins packing up most of his things. He comes across the shirt that Colby had given him the night of their party. The night they fell in love. He picked it up and looked at it, he folds it and then gently lays it on what was once his bed.

Sam slings his bag over his shoulder, glancing one last time at Colby's room, before making his way down the stairs and out the front door of the house. He gets into a taxi and pulls out of the gated driveway onto the road, heading towards LAX.
