Ten (Levi)

Another day at the hospital, another bundle of injuries. I walk into the ER and someone stumbles in. But not just someone with a small wound, this person has car parts impaling them. How are they still walking?

"Sir! Sir! SOMEONE GET ME A GURNEY" I exclaim as I run over to hold the patient as he falls. Nurses rush to my assistance with a gurney and help me get him on. "We need an immediate OR we have a John Doe I repeat a John Doe I need help over here!" I exclaim, Nico comes to my assistance but stops dead in his tracks when he sees the patient

"Darren?" Asked Nico, he knew the patient? "Nico, how do you know him?" I asked "He's my brother" replied Nico. What. The. Heck? I didn't know Nico had a brother "Nico, we will talk about this later but you know you can't operate on family members so you have to go" I say, Nico sighs and almost protests but decides against that and walks away.

Eventually Grey manages to help me. We get into an OR and start operating. "Who is the patient?" Asked Meredith as we started removing the car parts "Nico's brother, Darren Kim, I didn't even know he had a brother" I replied, focusing mainly on the operation. I really cannot mess this one up. Not today. No.

"How did you not know your own husband had a brother?" Asked Meredith "I just didn't, he doesn't talk about his family, they aren't very accepting of him, they didn't even come to the wedding" I replied "come to think of it, neither did his brother, maybe that's why I never heard of Darren until now" I add, Meredith nods "that's tough but also understandable, maybe when you get out of this surgery you tread on the subject carefully, family can be a dangerous, emotional storm that not many people like to unleash" advises Meredith, she had a point "I guess you have a point" I reply.

"I do have a point. Levi, I have so much experience with secrets in family. I didn't know I had three sisters, my dad remarried and never told me. Some people just don't like talking about their family and I mean you have to understand that or whenever you find something out you're going to want to know everything straight away, and that's not a healthy marriage, Levi, a marriage like that will never last and I'm sorry if that's harsh but you know deep down that really that is the truth and I know how much Nico means to you, you don't want to lose him over family when that's what he is to you" stated Meredith. Wow.

"That hit me hard, Meredith, but I needed that wake up call so thank you for that. I will take that into account when I talk to Nico and hopefully he won't take it the wrong way" I replied, Meredith smiles and we carried on with the surgery.

After a few more hours, we began to close up. I scrubbed out and shook my arms, clicking my knuckles, wrists, shoulders, back and neck. That was a long, but hopefully successful surgery. Now it's time to find Nico. I walk out and sure enough I find Nico, although, he's sitting in the waiting area looking terribly anxious. I approach him carefully "Nico" I say subtly "how did it go? Is he alive?" Asked Nico, I nodded and sat next to him "the surgery went well, hopefully Darren should recover very soon and he should be in good shape" I replied

"Oh thank god" remarked Nico, I smiled slightly "Nico, h-how come you...how come you never told me about Darren, your own brother?" I asked cautiously, hoping he would cooperate. I was too tired for an argument "well. Um" stuttered Nico "father your words, breathe and then tell me when you're ready" I advised, Nico smiled and held my hand.

"Darren and I were super close when we were younger. We used to do everything together. We're twins. We were inseparable. And then one day we went to a party, Jessica Morrison's party and we were super chuffed because she was so popular and we weren't really, we got to the party and started talking to friends and I went off with my then boyfriend. We found an empty room and started making out. At the time I wasn't out to my family, so Darren didn't know. He came looking for me and he opened the door, when he did he saw me straddling Corey Sawyer, who also happened to be one of his close friends but was my boyfriend. I was so shocked, I had no words. Darren stood there and anger filled him, he shouted homophobic slurs at me. He pulled me away from Corey and slapped me, he punched me and kicked me, screaming in my face, he threw my shirt at me and stormed off. I didn't go back home. I didn't go home for a week and Darren didn't care, he didn't even come look for me, when I eventually came home, he had told my parents, I was 17 so they told me to leave, he told me he was glad I was going and I haven't seen him since, he isn't a big part of my life anymore so I don't talk about him, I'm sorry" explained Nico.

A lump formed in my throat and all I could do was hug him. "Nico, I want you to know that I love you no matter what and families suck. I get that. But I'm always here and I hope you know that. Nothing will come between us, not crazy brothers or sisters or parents, not weird aunts and uncles. Nothing. You will always be the light and love of my life and I won't let anyone bring you down like that" I said, Nico smiles and kissed me.

Sorry for not updating for so long I hit a massive writing block, I actually started this chapter like a week ago and have written a sentence or two a day but today I had an idea so before I started school work I decided to finish this chapter cuz I've kept y'all waiting long enough. Thank you for all the love and the support. Sorry this chapter is dark but I mean there had to be some drama somewhere

There may be some sibling rivalry in the next chapter so stay tuned ;)
