Six (Levi)

Shit. We fell asleep. How did we fall asleep? We got up and rushed getting ready, we needed to collect Phoenix and Kenzie-Leigh from the adoption center. I help Nico get in the car and then get in the drivers seat and drive us to the adoption centre. When we arrive I feel a wave of excitement engulf me and all I could do was smile. I have two children. Not one. Two. I felt like the luckiest guy to have the most perfect husband and two beautiful daughters, believe me if this was a dream I wouldn't want to wake up.

We walk through the sliding doors into the air conditioned building, the cold air hit me like a bullet but it was so refreshing. I inhaled sharply and looked around for Loren. Eventually we spotted her "Levi, Nico!" Exclaimed Loren, we smiled and shook hands with her "Kenzitt-Leigh and Phoenix are waiting for you, are you going to take them to the daycare at the hospital or have you got the day off?" Asked Loren, shit. We didn't book the day off "unfortunately we haven't got any holiday left to take off but apparently we can go on 'maternity leave' next week, we just need to finish this week's shift" replied Nico, saving me the hassle of explaining.

"Oh that's good!" Exclaimed Loren "how much maternity leave do you get?" Asked Loren "two months" I reply, Loren nods "that's not long" said Loren, we shrug "unfortunately being a doctor means making sacrifices, saving lives is an important role in our lives, we can't be taking long periods of time off when people die on a daily basis" replied Nico, wow. "This is very true" said Loren smiling "how is Kieran? We haven't seen him in a while, he hasn't turned up to a few of his check ups" I asked, Loren's face dropped slightly "w-what do you mean?" Asked Loren. Shit.

"Kieran hasn't gone to his appointments?" Asked Loren, I shook my head "Oh. I'll take him next time I'll find out where he was too sorry that must've been a worry for you. Anyways, Kenzie-Leigh and Phoenix are ready and waiting for you" said Loren. We nodded and followed Loren there. Again, when I saw the girls my heart melted. I'm already in love with them "hey there!" I say in a cringey high pitched voice as I walk over to both girls and pick up Kenzie-Leigh and put her in her car seat, then I do the same to Phoenix and pick up both the car seats and begin to walk away, Nico following me.

"Thank you so so much, Loren" I say as we leave, she gives us a weak smile and a small wave as we leave, I strap Phoenix and Kenzie-Leigh into the car and made sure it was safe and sturdy before getting in the driver's seat and driving to the hospital. I then remember Nico is on bed rest so I take him home and refuse to let him stay alone with Kenzie-Leigh and Phoenix as he's still on crutches so I get back in the car and drive to the hospital. When I get there I get the twins out of the car and walk with them to daycare.

"Hey, Schmitt! They yours?" Asked Owen, I smiled and nodded "yup" I reply "who are these little cuties then?" Asked Owen crouching down and smiling as he stroked Phoenix's cheek. "This is Phoenix and this is Kenzie-Leigh, Nico and I picked the names ourselves" I replied, Owen smiles "well you're very lucky to have two beautiful baby girls with beautiful names" complimented Owen, I smiled "thanks, Dr Hunt" I reply, Owen smiles "Levi, it's Owen outside of work or away from patients ok?" Says Owen, I smile and nod "bye, Owen" I say, he smiles and waves. I drop the twins off at Daycare, they were put with the other babies

"Hey, Schmitt, I didn't know you had kids" said Meredith, I looked over "yeah, Nico and I recently adopted twin girls" I reply "twins, that's tough! Good luck with that one" said Meredith, I chuckle at this comment "trust me I think we have it easier than you, single mom with three kids is even more tough" I reply, Meredith smiles "I guess that's true" said Meredith.

I went down to the ER and saw a man coming in, he has wounds all over and they are full of puss and they look very infected, oh wait, that looks like Kieran. Loren's husband. I rush over to him "you're Kieran right?" I asked, he nodded "god can you help I'm in so much pain" said Kieran "ok come with me" I say putting his arm around my shoulder and my arm around his waist to support him and I brought him to a gurney.

I turn for a moment to get some supplies however when I turn back around, Kieran is seizing and coding at the same time, I push the gurney down so it's flat and call for a crash cart. Nothing. I call again. Nothing. "CAN NO ONE HEAR ME?! THIS MAN IS DYING GET ME A CRASH CART" I scream. Still Nothing. Shit "GET ME A CRASH CART" I scream and page all the nurses and smash the blue button. Eventually a nurse rushes over with a crash cart

"Finally!" I exclaim. I rub the pads together and shock Kieran. I think it's too late. God don't let it be too late. "Charge again" I say, I rub the pads together again and shock him one more time. I start CPR and keep on going "Dr Schmitt, it's been five minutes you need to call it" said the nurse "I won't let this man die in my hands come on please" I say as I keep on with the CPR "dr Schmitt!" Exclaimed the nurse "fine!" I Exclaimed "time of death 11:56 AM" I say, I take my gloves off and shove them in the bin before storming away.
