Part 1| Chapter 11: The Coronation

Luckily for y/n, the incident from Family Day made the tourney team members fall out of love with her. Unluckily for y/n, that meant that everyone hated her. Everyone except Ben, who was still with her despite everything. This confused her, since he was also under her love spell. She wondered why his feelings for her were still intact, but she didn't dwell on that thought for long because soon even his feelings would go.

"At last, here we are, broadcasting live from the coronation where Prince Benjamin will soon be crowned King! I'm Snow White, bringing you up to the second coverage of who's the fairest of them all," Snow White announced on live TV.

"'I'm Snow White.' Who are you kidding? She's definitely had work done," Evil Queen said from the Isle.

"Oh, Fairy Godmother is looking radiant," Snow White commented. "But what is happening with Jane's hair? And there is Fairy Godmother's wand."

"I want that wand!" Maleficent exclaimed.

"Do you? Hadn't heard," Cruella replied sarcastically.

"Oh, and here comes Ben now."

Ben and y/n appeared on screen, riding a horse-driven carriage. They waved at the people surrounding them as they made their way to the cathedral.

"Don't be nervous. All you have to do is sit there and look beautiful. No problem there," Ben whispered to y/n.

Y/n smiled despite herself. "Thank you," she said.

"Y/n, would you wear my ring?" he asked, holding his ring to her.

As much as she wanted to, she knew he'd regret asking her the moment the spell wore off. "Um... not now. I think it would probably just fall right off of me," y/n told him. "I have something for you," she then said, holding out a box for him.

"For me?"

"Yeah. It's just for later, you know, when you need strength. Some carbs to keep up your energy," y/n said.

Ben opened the box, where a small brownie rested within. "Always thinking. But I can't wait," he said before eating the treat in one bite.

"No!" y/n exclaimed.

"Mm. Mm... Mm! This is really good," Ben told her.

"Uh, do you...Do you feel okay?" she asked nervously.

"You bet," he replied with a smile.

"Would you say that you're still in... that... that you have very strong feelings for me?" y/n asked, still sounding scared.

"I'm not sure. I mean, let's give the anti-love potion a few minutes to take effect," he said.

Y/n's eyes instantly widened. "What? You knew?"

"That you spelled me? Yeah. Yeah, I knew," he confirmed.

"I'm... I can explain myself," y/n said quickly.

"No, look, It's fine. I mean, you had a crush on me. I was with Audrey. You didn't trust that it could happen on its own. Am I right?" he guessed.

"Yes. You're so right," she said. Though she spelled him for the wand, he still wasn't wrong, so she technically wasn't lying. "So, then, how long have you known?" she asked him.

"Since our first date. Your spell washed away in the Enchanted Lake," Ben said.

"So, then what? You've just been... faking it since then?" y/n asked sadly.

To her surprise, Ben lifted her hand, placed the ring on her index finger, and kissed it. "I haven't been faking anything," he told her.

Suddenly, it all made sense; how Ben could understand her so well, why the spell didn't wear off when it did for the tourney team—it was because the spell wasn't binding their relationship. Love was. True love.

"Well, if it isn't..." Evil Queen started.

"My daughter," Maleficent finished. "Looking like some kind of..."

"Princess!" Snow White finished for her through the screen. "Now, let's see who this beauty is wearing. Evie," she read from a strip of paper.

"Evie! That's my dau... Evie!" Evil Queen exclaimed triumphantly.

"Someone named Evie designed her gown," Snow White said.

"That's my daughter!" Evil Queen continued.

"Oh, wow. She sewed a dress. Meanwhile, my girl duped a prince, the other surely helped her as the evil mastermind, and she's this close to grabbing the magic wand," Maleficent stated.

"Bitter, party of one. Bitter, party of one," Evil Queen said.

"It's happening, people! It's happening! I say, gird your loins! Gird your loins! Villains, our revenge begins today," Maleficent said with a wicked smile.

The carriage stopped in front of the cathedral, and y/n and Ben were escorted to the front door.

"About the other day, I just..." y/n started when she approached Belle and Beast.

"I told Ben this wasn't going to be easy," Beast said.

"You also taught me that a king has to believe in himself. Even when it isn't easy," Ben countered.

"I did?" Beast asked. "I... how very wise of me," he said, suddenly seeming to remember.

"Ben, we are very proud of you," Belle told her son with a smile. "You keep listening to your heart."

"Thanks, mom." He returned her smile.

"You're gonna make a fine king," Beast said to him.

"Wish me luck," Ben said.

Lumiere took y/n through the side of the cathedral and to the main stage while Ben entered through the front door.

Once Ben arrived at the stage, Fairy Godmother took out her wand from its glass case and held it in front of him.

"Don't blow it, kiddo," Maleficent whispered.

"Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of Auradon with justice and mercy as long as you shall reign?" Fairy Godmother asked Ben.

"Oh, grab the thing already!" Maleficent shouted impatiently.

"I do solemnly swear," Ben promised.

Fairy Godmother smiled. "Then it is my honour and my joy to bless our new King."

However, the wand was suddenly grabbed from her hand, and the wielder sent sparks flying into the air which caused a rumble, and unknowingly the breaking of the barrier between the Isle and Auradon.

"Yes!" Maleficent exclaimed. "The barrier is broken! We're free! Scepter! Now!" she ordered, and the moment her magic sceptre flew into her hand, she began teleporting to the cathedral of Auradon.

"Child, what are you doing?!" Fairy Godmother shrieked.

"If you won't make me beautiful, I'll do it myself! Bibbidi-bobbidi- boo!" Jane shouted, still sending sparks from the wand.

"Take cover!" Beast told everyone.

Y/n ran to Jane and tried to grab the wand from her before she could cause any damage to herself and to others.

"Careful, y/n!" Belle said.

Y/n managed to take the wand, but instead of handing it to Fairy Godmother, she held it up as a weapon.

"Y/n, give me the wand," Ben told her, noticing the sudden change in her demeanour.

"Stand back," she said.

"It's okay," he tried to assure her.

"Ben, I said stand back!" she ordered, her voice coming out shaking more than shouting.

"I told you so!" Audrey shouted. However, when y/n pointed the wand at her, she fell back in line.

"Let's go!" Carlos said as he, Jay, Evie, and Mal came in through the front doors.

"Revenge time," Jay added.

"You really want to do this?" Ben asked her.

"We have no choice, Ben! Our parents..." she started.

"Your parents made their choice. Now you make yours," he told her.

Y/n thought about it for a moment and decided that it would be now or never. She could either live with fear under her mom's rule or live with love by her heart's choices.

"I think I want to be good," y/n whispered softly.

"You are good," Ben said.

"How do you know that?" she asked, her voice still quiet.

"Because... because I'm listening to my heart," Ben replied.

"I want to listen to my heart, too," y/n said, lowering the wand. "And my heart is telling me that we are not our parents."

"Yeah," Mal agreed. "I mean, stealing things doesn't make you happy," she told Jay. "Tourney and victory pizza with the team makes you happy. And you, scratching dude's belly makes you happy. Who would've thought?" Mal told Carlos. "And Evie... You do not have to play dumb to get a guy. You are so smart. And I don't want to take over the world with evil. It doesn't make me happy. I want to go to school. Y/n, I know you want the same. And I'm sure you want something more." Mal turned to her sister for her to continue.

In response, y/n smiled. "I wanna be with Ben. Because Ben makes me really happy," she stated, holding up her hand with his ring.

"Us being friends makes me really happy," Mal added. "All of us." She looked at y/n pointedly.

"Me, too," Evie agreed, smiling at the girl.

"We agree, too," Jay spoke for him and Carlos.

"You're also our family, y/n. You always have been," Carlos told her.

Y/n smiled at their words, tears brimming her eyes. "Us being friends makes me really happy, too. Not destroying things. I choose good, you guys."

Y/n put out her fist, gesturing for them to join, too.

"Where you go, I go, sister," Mal said before adding her fist next to her twin's.

"I choose good, too." Jay added his.

"I choose good," Evie said.

They all looked at their youngest member, who seemed to have a few hesitations.

"So, just to be clear, we don't have to be worried about how really mad our parents will be?" Carlos asked, causing all of them to laugh. "Because they're gonna be really, really mad."

"Your parents can't reach you here," Ben reassured him.

"Okay, then. Good," he agreed, adding his fist to the circle.

Everyone laughed in joy, and y/n dragged Ben into the circle as well. However, their moment of bliss was not to last.

A second later, a swirl of green smoke appeared in the centre of the room, and out from the plumes appeared none other than the Mistress of Evil herself. "I'm back!" Maleficent declared.

"It can't be," Mal whispered.

Y/n rolled her eyes. "Go away, mother."

Maleficent laughed at her daughter's tone. "She's funny. Oh! I'm so... you're very funny. Here. Wand me. Chop chop," she ordered.

Y/n pretended to throw her mother the wand but instead tossed it to Fairy Godmother.

"Bibbidi-bobbidi..." she started.

"Boo," Maleficent finished. With her sceptre, she spelled everyone in the cathedral to be frozen except her and the villain kids. "Psych. Ooh. Ooh, in another time, in another time. Evil like me, don't you wanna be mean..." she muttered while walking around the Queen, King, and Fairy Godmother on the platform. "Ow! Oh. Oh, no. Someone needs to pluck their nose hairs. Where shall we begin? I know. Why don't we start by getting rid of this?"

With the wand she took from Fairy Godmother's frozen hand, she forced Ben's ring from y/n's finger onto it. "Perfect fit! Oh, excuse me. Pardon me. Excuse me. The horns, the horns! Aw... falling in love is weak... and ridiculous. It's not what you want," she told y/n.

"You don't know what I want! Mom, have you ever once asked me what I wanted? I'm not you!" y/n exclaimed.

"Oh, sweetie, I know. You've always been more like your father, and a disappointment as well. And I've had years and years and years and... years of practice being evil. You'll get there. Hopefully," her mother told her.

"No, I will not. And I really wish that you had never gotten there yourself. Love is not weak or ridiculous. It's actually really amazing," y/n replied.

Upon hearing her words, Maleficent contorted with rage. "I know one thing, young lady. You have no room for love in your life!"

"And now I command, wand to my hand!" Mal shouted while Maleficent was distracted. "Ha! It worked!"

"I hardly think so. Frankly, this is tedious and very immature. Give me the wand. Give me the wand!" Maleficent ordered.

"Hold on, Mal. Maybe good really is more powerful than evil," Carlos told his friend.

"Oh, please! You're killing me. Arf!" Maleficent mocked. Just then, Dude jumped on her. "Oh! Oh, the breath! The breath! Get off me!"

In the moment she was distracted, Jay tried to steal the sceptre, but he drastically underestimated its power.

Maleficent smirked as she touched his arm. "Gaston should be jealous," she told him before pushing him back. "Enough! You all will regret this!"

Maleficent engulfed herself in smoke before transforming into a huge, purple dragon.

"Come on. Run, Jay, run!" Carlos exclaimed.

"Hurry, Jay. Hurry, hurry, hurry! Jay! Watch it, Jay, Jay, come on. Please Jay! Jay!" Mal kept screaming as they ran from the beast.

"Everyone, take shelter!" y/n said.

"Magic mirror, show your bright light!" Evie chanted, creating a light with her mirror to shine in the dragon's eyes.

The light temporarily blinded Maleficent, which bought Mal  enough time to give y/n the wand and let her step between her mother and her friends.

"Leave my friends alone! This is between you and me, mother. The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before five hearts as one," y/n chanted, her eyes turning blue. "The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before five hearts as one."

However, her power alone wasn't enough to battle her mother. She needed her sister.

Mal, eyes green, stepped next to y/n and took her hand. "We're in this together, right?"

Y/n nodded. "Always."

Looking back at the dragon, they both chanted loudly, "The strength of evil is good as none, when stands before five hearts as one!"

Suddenly, the dragon roared before shrinking into a tiny purple lizard. The spell cast on Fairy Godmother was lifted, and she rushed to the children.

"What just happened?" Evie asked.

"I have no idea," Mal replied.

"Did you guys do it?" Evie asked the twins.

"I don't know," y/n said.

"No, no, no, no. Your mother did. She shrank to the size of the love in her heart. That's why It's so itty-bitty," Fairy Godmother explained.

"Is she gonna be like that forever?" Mal asked, slightly saddened.

"Well, forever is a long time. Y/n learned to love. So did you. So can she," Fairy Godmother replied.

"I believe this belongs to you," y/n told her, handing her the magic wand.

"And I believe this..." She gave y/n her ring back, "belongs to you. You all have earned yourselves an "A" in goodness class. "Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!" she exclaimed, restoring the tear in the barrier and lifting Maleficent's spell on everyone in the cathedral.

The moment the curse was broken, Ben roared before running to y/n and picking her up.

"Okay, okay! Oh! We kinda got this all wrapped up here," she told him while he spun her.

"Next time, I rescue you, okay?" he said once he set her down.

"Yeah. Let's not let there be a next time, okay?" she replied. When she noticed Fairy Godmother sternly telling off Jane, she said, "I will be right back."

"I love you. But you are on a major time-out," Fairy Godmother told her daughter.

"Don't be too hard on Jane," y/n quickly said. "I was the one who put all that crazy stuff in her head. You are beautiful... inside and out. Your mom got that right," y/n assured her.

Jane smiled. "I guess I did get pretty lucky in the mother department."

"Yeah, I guess so," y/n agreed.

"By the way, I'm so sorry about before. I guess the sudden popularity really got to me," Jane apologised.

Y/n smiled. "All forgiven."

"Really? So, we're best friends again?" Jane asked excitedly.

"Of course," y/n replied.

Jane squealed before trapping y/n in a tight hug, one which she returned.

"Hey!" y/n heard her sister exclaim. "Careful! That's my mom!" Mal said to the guy placing a glass case over the lizard.

The five VKs regrouped at the centre of the cathedral and wrapped their arms around each other.

"Well, let's get this party started!" Jay shouted.

"Ohay, ohay, hey!" everyone chanted.

The party extended to Beast's castle at night. Music started playing, and everyone danced along.

The music stopped for a moment as fireworks exploded in the distance, followed by the crowd's cheers. Everyone continued dancing and partying, but y/n took a moment away from the celebrations.

"Oh, I was having so much fun, I almost forgot. You didn't think this was the end of the story, did you?" Her eyes flickered blue before returning to their normal e/c as she rejoined Ben at the party.

And y/n was right, for this was just the start of her and Ben's chaotic, messy, weirdly beautiful love story.
