Part 1| Chapter 10: Family Day
20:50, 8 September 2025The five VKS were in Remedial Goodness 101 when Fairy Godmother informed them, "Children, excuse me. Um, as you know, uh, this Sunday is Family Day here at Auradon Prep. And because your parents can't be here due to, uh, distance, we've arranged for a special treat."
Curious, Mal, y/n, Evie, Jay, and Carlos walked up to the screen placed at the front of the classroom. When it flicked on, they all saw their parents on the other side of the TV.
"I don't see anything, nor do I hear," Maleficent said. "Is it... is it... is..."
"Press enter," Jafar told her.
"Can I please see a remote? Is this thing on?" Maleficent asked.
"Looks like we're gonna be here a while," y/n muttered.
"Ugh, it's broken," Evil Queen said. "Ugh! I hate electronic equip... Oh! Evie, It's mommy." Evil Queen smiled upon seeing her daughter, who returned her enthusiasm. "Oh! Look how beautiful. Oh, you know what they say, the poison apple doesn't fall far from the tree."
"Don't you mean the weeds?" Maleficent retorted.
"Ooh! Who's the old bat?" Cruella asked.
"This is Fairy Godmother," Mal replied politely.
Maleficent laughed. "Still doing tricks with eggplants?"
Fairy Godmother gasped, clearly offended. "I turned a pumpkin into a beautiful carriage."
"You really couldn't give Cinderella till one a.m.? I mean, really. What, the hamsters had to be back on their little wheels?" Maleficent joked.
"They were mice!" Fairy Godmother exclaimed. "They were not... they were mice. They were not..."
"Thank you so much. Thank you," y/n told Fairy Godmother with a smile.
"They were mice," Fairy Godmother repeated one last time.
"Hi, mom," Mal greeted her mother.
"Mal! I m-m-miss you," Maleficent stuttered.
"Miss you too, mom," y/n sighed.
"You children are never far from our thoughts," Jafar said.
"I got it," Mal said.
"How long must mommy wait to see you?" Maleficent asked.
"Um, there's a big coronation coming up. I think sometime probably after... that," Mal replied.
"When?" Maleficent asked.
"Friday, 10 a.m.," y/n replied.
"You sure I can't see you both before that? I don't know what I'll do if I don't get my hands on that magic wan... you... you little nuggets that I love so much," Maleficent quickly said, offering her daughters a look of fake enthusiasm.
"Yes, we completely understand, mother," Mal replied.
"Carlos, is that a dog?" Cruella suddenly asked, noticing the dog Carlos held in his arms. "Oh, yes, yes, baby, I do understand. It would make the perfect size for earmuffs."
"He's the perfect size for a pet!" Carlos snapped, shocking all the VKs.
"Oh!" Cruella exclaimed, also taken aback by his harsh tone.
"This dog loves me, and I love him. And FYI, your dog is stuffed! So give it a rest!" he continued.
"Oh-ho! Burn!" Jafar laughed.
"Oh! Why don't you go sell a toaster, you two-bit salesman!" Cruella yelled at him.
"People who talk to stuffed animals shouldn't throw stones," Jafar replied.
"Oh, well, people who sell toasters shouldn't use mixed metaphors," Cruella bit back.
"Enough!" Maleficent yelled before the screen went black.
"I'm so sorry," Fairy Godmother told the kids.
"Thanks for the special treat," Jay said with a half-hearted smile.
"Of course," she replied.
As the VKs made their way out of the room, Evie asked, "M? What do you think our parents are gonna do to us if we don't pull this off?"
"I think they will be quietly disappointed in us, but ultimately... proud of us for doing our best," Mal replied.
"Really?" Carlos asked hopefully.
"No, I think we are definitely goners," she said.
"Yeah," Evie added.
"Which is why we need to make our plan," y/n told them. "Tonight. Let's meet at the boys' dorm."
After the other four VKs confirmed the meet-up, they dispersed to their next classes for the day.

"Okay, we all know what this looks like. So, it'll be up on the dais under the beast's spell jar, and we'll be coming in from here. I will be in the very front. You all will be up on the balcony," y/n explained. "Carlos?"
"Okay, so I'll find our limo, so we can break the barrier, and, uh, get back on the island with the wand," he said.
"Perfect," Mal said. "Evie?"
"Yeah?" she asked.
"You will use this to take out the driver." Mal handed her a spray bottle filled with a mysterious liquid. "Two sprays and he'll be out like a light."
Y/n picked up the spell book and flipped through the pages until she found the spell she was looking forโthe anti-love spell.
"Y/n?" Evie asked, reading over her shoulder. "You want to break Ben's love spell?"
"Yeah. You know, for after. I don't... I've just been thinking, you know, when the villains finally do invade Auradon, and begin to loot and kick everyone out of their castles and imprison their leaders and destroy all that is good and beautiful, Ben still being in love with me just seems a little extra... cruel," y/n stated.
"Are you sure?" she asked her.
Y/n nodded sadly. "You guys get to bedโI'll be in the kitchen."
"Want me to help?" Mal asked.
"It's alright. I'll take care of this on my own."

As y/n stirred the brownie batter, she felt her eyes water at the thought of her beautiful dream about to be destroyed. After the coronation, she would never get this life back. And she would just have to be fine with it. But in her heart, she knew that she never really would be.
Y/n:
A million thoughts in my head
Should I let my heart keep listening?
I know it's time to say goodbye
So hard to let go
This time, she didn't need anyone else's tear for the spell.

"Ma chere Mademoiselle, it is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight. And now we invite you to relax. Let us pull up a chair as the dining room proudly presents: your dinner!" Ben spoke before the dancers started singing.
All:

Be our guest (Be our guest)
(Come on, come on)
Be our guest!
"Oh... that was so lovely!" Belle exclaimed with a smile.
Meanwhile, the VKs gathered around the chocolate fountain, where Jay and Carlos took as much chocolate as they could.
"Oooh," y/n said, picking up a strawberry and dipping it in the chocolate before putting it in her mouth.
"Y/n!" she heard Ben suddenly call.
"I gotta go, okay?" y/n said before heading to Ben.
"Y/n. I wanna introduce you to my parents. This is y/n. From the island. My girlfriend."
Y/n was not denseโshe knew from the look on his parents' faces that they did not approve of her, but that didn't mean she'd lose her formality.
"Hi, y/n," Belle said.
"Hi," y/n replied with a sweet smile.
"I was thinking maybe she can join us for lunch," Ben said.
"Of... course. Any friend of Ben's..." Beast started hesitantly.
"Um, I actually came with my... my, uhhh... my friends," y/n replied.
"Well, you should invite them," Belle suggested. "Because the more the merrier!"
Y/n smiled. "Yeah, I'll go grab them."
"Uh, how about a game of croquet before lunch?" Beast proposed.
"Huh? Of course," y/n agreed, though she had no idea what croquet was, let alone how to play it.
"Game on," Ben said.
"Game on," Beast repeated.
"Have you played before?" Ben asked as they walked away, his arm around her shoulders.
"No," she admitted.
"No? You'll be fine," he assured her.
"Y/n!" someone shouted.
"Oh, my god, it's her!" another guy said.
Soon, the entire tourney team approached her with lovestruck eyes. "Y/n, I love you so much!" one spoke.
"Uhh, Ben?" Y/n turned to him.
"Guys, what's wrong with you?" Ben asked lightheartedly, but there was no mistaking the underlying jealousy in his tone.
"Listen, Ben." One of the boys removed his hand from around y/n. "Me and y/n are destined for each other. So, stop stealing her from me."
"What?" another exclaimed. "No, she's mine!" he said before grabbing her arm.
"She's mine!" one said, pulling on her other arm.
"What is going on?" she wondered aloud.
"Hey, guys!" Jay called to the team, quickly pulling them away from y/n.
The moment they let her go, Ben wrapped his arm around her, protectively pulling her closer to his side while glaring at the team.
"Why don't y'all go try the refreshments?" Jay said, shooing them away.
Once they left, y/n asked, "Jay, what is going on?"
Jay sighed. "Ben, I'll have to borrow y/n." Without warning, he grabbed her arm and led her away from Ben.
"What did you do?" she growled.
"Remember the love cookies you baked? I might have accidentally left the bag in the locker room, and the entire team may have eaten them," he admitted.
"What!?" she exclaimed.
"Looks like Ben's waiting for you!" Jay said, pushing her to Ben before running away.
"What was that about?" Ben asked, wrapping his arm around her once again.
"Just Jay being the world's biggest idiot," she said through gritted teeth.

While the others ran around with Dude, the dog, laughing happily, y/n stood on the croquet field with absolutely no idea what she was doing.
"Hello there," an old lady suddenly said to her.
"Hi," y/n replied.
"Now, have we met?" she asked y/n.
"No, I don't think so. I'm new. I'm sort of like a... transfer student," y/n told her.
"Oh, yes," the old lady said.
"Grammy," Audrey called to the lady.
"Oh, Audrey! Give Grammy a kiss, dear," the woman said to Audrey.
"'Grammy'?" y/n asked.
"Sleeping Beauty's mother," Audrey informed y/n spitefully. "Grammy, I don't think you want to be talking to this girl. Unless you feel like taking another hundred-year nap."
"What?" Queen Leah took a good look at y/n before exclaiming, "You! How are you here? And how have you stayed so young?"
In an instant, Ben was at y/n's side, and so were the other VKs.
"Queen Leah, It's okay. Maleficent is still on the island," Ben assured her. "This is her daughter, y/n. Don't you remember my proclamation to give the new generation a chance?"
"A chance to what, Ben? Destroy us?" she said. "Come on. You remember, don't you? The poison apples. And the spells. Spells. My daughter... was raised by fairies because of your mother's curse. So, her first words, her first steps, I missed it all! You mustn't trust her."
"I'm so so..." y/n started before she was rudely cut off by Chad Charming.
"Go away! Stay away from her!" he shouted.
"What's your problem?!" Mal said to him.
"You, too!" he yelled. "Both of you stay away from her!"
"Don't do this, Chad," Ben warned.
"What? They were raised by their parents, Ben. What do you think villains teach their kids? Huh? Kindness? Fair play? No way, okay? Uh-uh. You stole another girl's boyfriend." Chad jabbed a finger at y/n.
"Hey, hey!" Ben shouted heatedly.
"You enjoy hurting people." He pointed to Jay. "You are pure evil," he said to Mal. "And you, you're nothing but a gold digger and a cheater," he told Evie.
"Mirror, mirror, in my hand, who's the biggest jerk in the land?" Evie asked her magic mirror before showing Chad what it revealed.
"What?" he said when he saw his own reflection. "Come on!" he exclaimed before he knocked the mirror out of her hand.
"Back off, Chad. All right? Back off!" Jay shouted.
Evie took the spray bottle Mal gave her the other night and sprayed two spritzes in Chad's face. Almost instantly, he fell to the ground, unconscious.
"Chad! Chad? Chad! Evie did something to Chad!" Audrey exclaimed.
"Wake up. Check if he's okay," Lonnie said.
"Come on, guys," y/n said, leading them away.
"Guys!" Ben called.
"Jay!" Mal said.
The five VKs stormed off, far away from the field, far away from all those people who they thought cared about them, far away from the lie they believed that they could fit in just like everyone else.
***
Mal, y/n, Evie, Jay, and Carlos were sitting at a picnic table, their faces sunken.
"Hey, guys. How is everyone?" Ben asked, but no one responded. "Yeah? Hey, listen. Forget about it. All right? It was nothing. Forget about it. Let it go. Tomorrow, after the coronation, I promise everything will be okay," he whispered to y/n. "I have to go. I'll see you guys later."
"Listen, Evie, I wanna talk about earlier today," Doug said, approaching her. "I just..."
"Doug!" Chad called.
"It's my fault, Doug. I'm sorry," Evie told him.
"No, it's mine," he said.
"Doug!" Chad repeated.
"What?" he asked. When he noticed Chad's glare, he knew he had to go.
"Doug..." Evie trailed off.
"Sorry, I can't," he told her apologetically before leaving.
"How long does she think that's gonna last?" Audreys sneered from behind y/n. "Y/n is just the bad girl infatuation."
"Yeah. I mean, he's never gonna make a villain a queen," Jane added before laughing.
Hearing Jane say that, the girl she thought was her best friend, shattered y/n's heart. Luckily, Mal wasn't as emotional as she was and stood up for her sister.
"Beware, forswear, undo Jane's hair," Mal chanted, and at once Jane's hair turned back into its former bob.
When Jane saw what Mal had done, she let out a horrified shriek.
"Ew!" Chad exclaimed.
"There's a lot more where that came from," Mal said, standing up from the picnic bench.
"Excuse me, who do you think you are?" Audrey asked.
"Do I look like I'm kidding?" The moment she started flipping through her spell book pages, everyone ran away.
Mal sighed triumphantly. "I'm really looking forward to tomorrow. Let's grab that wand and blow this popsicle stand," she told her friends.
Together, the five of them walked away from the picnic table like the badass villains they are.ย
