"Then when the time comes, I will give you everything."
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The curse snarls, its deformed body shifting grotesquely as it turns its focus on both of them. Naomi's heartbeat pounds, but she plants her feet firmly, ready to move.
"Stay behind me," Nobara mutters, gripping her hammer.
"What?! I just saved your ass!" Naomi huffs. "Yeah, well, I have actual weapons." Nobara smirks.
Naomi glares but doesn't argue. She's right—I can't fight, but I can at least help.
The curse lunges at them. Nobara moves first—She sidesteps, slamming her hammer into one of the curse's arms. The nails pierce through its flesh, and with a flick of her wrist—Resonance! The curse screeches as its own energy recoils against it, black veins spreading across its body.
"Ha! Feels good, doesn't it?" Nobara taunts. Naomi jumps back as the curse swings wildly, smashing into the walls. Dust and debris explode around them. "Tch—it's still moving?!"Nobara scowls.
"No shit! It looks pissed!" Naomi yells. The curse lunges again, its long arms stretching unnaturally—straight for Naomi. Her mind blanks. For a second, she freezes. I can't dodge—
But Nobara grabs her collar and yanks her back just in time. "What did I just say about staying behind me?!" Nobara snaps.
Naomi grits her teeth. "Fine! What do you need me to do?"
Nobara pauses for a split second—then smirks. "Be bait."
Naomi blanches. "EXCUSE ME?!" But Nobara's already moving. "You're fast! Just keep dodging, and when I say 'now'—duck!"
Naomi groans. I hate this, I hate this, I hate this! But she does it anyway. Naomi runs. The curse chases her, its grotesque limbs slamming into the ground just inches behind her. Her legs burn, her lungs scream for air. "Uh—anytime now, Nobara!" she shouts. Nobara narrows her eyes, watching carefully.
Not yet.
Not yet.
...NOW."NAOMI, DUCK!"
Naomi throws herself to the ground. In an instant—A flurry of nails pierces through the curse's body. Nobara slams her hammer down. "RESOOONANCE!"
The curse shrieks, its own power turning against itself. Its body twists, convulses—then crumbles into nothing. Silence.Naomi sits up, panting. Nobara flicks her hair back. "Told you it'd work."
Naomi glares. "You nearly got me killed!"
"But I didn't, so~" Nobara smirks. Naomi breathes heavily, her hands trembling from the adrenaline.
"We... we actually did it." She exhales in disbelief. Nobara smirks, leaning on her hammer. "Of course we did. I told you—"
Her words cut off as she suddenly stumbles forward. "Hey!" Naomi lunges, catching her before she hits the ground. That's when she sees it—Blood.
A deep gash runs along Nobara's side, staining her uniform a dark red. Naomi's eyes widen."Nobara—?! You're hurt!"
Nobara grits her teeth. "Tch—didn't even notice... must've been when that thing swung at me." Her breath is shaky, her body swaying. Naomi tightens her grip. "No, no, no—stay awake! We need to get you out of here!"
Nobara tries to push her away. "I can—" Her legs give out. Naomi catches her again, panic rising in her chest. "I said stay awake, idiot!" No time to argue. She throws Nobara's arm over her shoulder, gritting her teeth.
"You're heavier than you look." Nobara snorts weakly. "Rude... should've let that curse eat you."
"Shut up and let me save your life, jeez."
Naomi runs through the ruined halls, half-carrying, half-dragging Nobara. Her arms burn. Her legs ache. But she doesn't stop. "Hang in there, Nobara! Just a little further!"
Finally—She bursts out of the detention center. Ijichi sees them immediately, eyes widening. "What happened?!" he rushes forward. "She's hurt—badly! Get her to a hospital, now!" Naomi gasps for breath .Ijichi nods, taking Nobara from her. Nobara groggily blinks at Naomi.
"Don't you dare die," Naomi mutters. "Or I'll kill you myself." Nobara huffs weakly. "Pft. As if..." Ijichi helps her into the car. As the doors shut, Naomi steps back, exhaling shakily. Then—A distant, bloodcurdling roar. Her stomach drops.
Yuji. Megumi.
Something is very, very wrong. She turns back toward the detention center—And runs back inside.
Naomi's breath was uneven as she ran through the dark, ruined halls of the detention center. Every step felt heavier, her heartbeat roaring in her ears. But she didn't stop. She couldn't. Yuji and Megumi were still fighting, and Nobara was barely conscious.A bloodcurdling roar echoed from deep within the detention center. Naomi's stomach twisted painfully. Something was wrong. Yuji. Megumi.
The moment she entered the battlefield, she froze. Yuji lay motionless on the cold ground. Her breath caught in her throat. Blood pooled beneath him, his uniform was torn, and his arm—Naomi flinched at the sight of how unnaturally it twisted. "No..." Her voice trembled. She barely took a step forward when a loud crash forced her attention away. Megumi was still fighting. The Special Grade loomed over him, its grotesque form shifting with an unnatural fluidity. Megumi's breathing was ragged, his stance unsteady, but his eyes burned with determination. Blood dripped from the corner of his mouth, from the deep gash on his arm, from the numerous cuts across his body. Yet, he stood his ground.
Naomi barely had time to process what was happening before the curse lunged. "MEGUMI, LOOK OUT!"
Megumi tried to dodge, but he was too slow. The curse's massive arm swung down, slamming him into the ground. The impact sent a crack through the floor, dust and debris exploding into the air. Naomi didn't think. She moved.
Her legs carried her forward, straight toward Megumi's collapsed form. She reached him just as the curse raised its arm again. "Naomi..." Megumi's voice was weak as he attempted to push himself up. "Get back..."
The fight was a disaster. Yuji was down. Nobara is hurt. Naomi and Megumi stood alone in the ruined remains of the detention center, surrounded by the remnants of failed exorcisms and the heavy weight of impending death. The Special Grade loomed before them, grotesque and laughing. It was playing with them. Naomi's chest heaved as she struggled to catch her breath, her body aching from constant movement. She had no cursed energy, no way to fight back. All she could do was run, dodge, survive. But how much longer could she keep this up? Megumi wasn't faring any better. Blood dripped down his arm, his shikigami barely holding on. His stance wavered, but his eyes remained sharp, burning with determination. He was buying time, trying to hold out. But for what? There was no backup coming. No one to save them.
And the curse knew it. Its jagged mouth stretched into a grin, amused at their desperation. It wasn't even trying yet. Naomi swallowed hard.
"We're going to die." The thought slithered into her mind before she could push it away. No. No, she couldn't think like that. Gojo always said the moment you believed you'd lost, you already had. "You're not a sorcerer. You have no cursed energy. You shouldn't even be here." A wave of nausea rolled through her. The higher-ups had forced her into this mission, knowing damn well she wasn't ready. But why? Why did they want her here so badly? What were they expecting?
"Did they want me to die?" The curse moved. Fast.Naomi barely had time to react. Its massive claws slashed through the air, heading straight for her—
"Again."
Naomi groaned, collapsing onto the training mat, her limbs sprawled out in exhaustion. "Gojo, I can't do this! I have no cursed energy! How am I supposed to fight something I can't even see half the time?!"
Gojo stood over her, grinning behind his blindfold, hands on his hips. "That's what your eyes are for, genius."
She glared at him. "That's easy for you to say. You have Six Eyes. I have nothing."
Gojo crouched down, tilting his head. "You have instincts."
Naomi scoffed. "And what if instincts aren't enough?"
His grin faltered—just for a second. Then he flicked her forehead.
"Then you figure out what the hell is inside of you, dummy."
Naomi blinked, rubbing the sore spot. "What does that even mean?"
Gojo smirked as he stood up. "You'll see."
She moved. Her body reacted before she could think, twisting at the last second. The curse's claws tore through her uniform, missing her by mere inches. She stumbled backward, her breath catching in her throat. "Too close." Megumi lunged forward, shadows twisting at his command as his shikigami lashed out.
The curse barely flinched. It retaliated violently, sending Megumi crashing against the broken floor. Naomi's heart stopped. Blood splattered across the ground. Megumi didn't get up. She turned to him, panic rising in her chest. "Megumi—"He was breathing. Barely. His side was torn open, blood pooling beneath him. His hands twitched, struggling to push himself up, but he couldn't. Naomi's vision blurred.
"This isn't happening." The curse snickered. Mocking. It didn't see them as a threat. It was toying with them. Megumi coughed, his voice hoarse. "Naomi... you have to run." Her stomach twisted. "No."
"You have no cursed energy. You can't fight. I can at least—" His voice cracked, but he forced it out. "I can stall it." She shook her head violently, refusing to listen. "No! I'm not leaving you—"
The curse lunged. Straight for Megumi. Naomi didn't think. She moved. Her body threw itself over him, shielding him as the curse's claws came down. This was it. She was going to die. And then—Everything stopped.
Drip.
Drip.
Water. Slow, rhythmic.
Darkness pressed in from all sides.
A voice—soft, familiar.
"Do you want power?"
Naomi shivered. She was young. Too young. The shadows around her pulsed, shifting with an eerie sentience.
"Do you want to protect them?"
She hesitated.
Something about this felt... wrong.
But when she closed her eyes, all she saw was blood.
"Yes."
The figure smiled.
"Then when the time comes, I will give you everything."
The darkness rushed in. A pulse of energy exploded from deep within her. The air around them cracked, twisted, screamed. Naomi gasped, her body trembling as an overwhelming force surged through her veins. The curse staggered back, its form twitching, hesitating for the first time. Megumi's eyes widened in horror. Naomi's shadow shifted. Something was changing. Something was awakening.
The suffocating pressure in the air grew heavier, darker, wrong. It felt ancient. It felt hungry. Naomi clutched her head, her vision blurring. What was happening to her? The curse let out a guttural snarl, recognizing the shift.
It didn't hesitate this time. It lunged.
And Naomi—She changed.
ohhhh! How was it guyss..im not really into writing fight scenes but after this it really did change my mind.
A story without votes is like a Domain Expansion without a sure-hit effect—just not as powerful!
