Chapter 14
15:36, 23 December 2014I opened my eyes to the sound of beeping. I reached over to turn my alarm off but then noticed the room was white. This was not my bed room. I sat up really quickly and saw my mom sitting in the corner.
She looked up at me and smiled in relief. I looked around the room to see a few machines. I then noticed I had a breathing mask on. I'm at the hospital.
My mom got up from her seat and came over to me. She sat down on the side of the bed and gave me a hug. "I was so worried about you Maddie" she said giving me a kiss on the top of my head.
"How long have I been out?" I asked her. I had no idea what day it was. "A few days" she whispered back. "What day is it?" "Saturday." Wait, Saturday is the day of the competition.
"But, it can't be Saturday. The comp is on today" I said starting to panic. "Maddie, please don't panic. It's alright, Abby understands and isn't mad at you for missing the comp" she said stroking my hair trying to calm me down.
The doctor came in and gave me a smile. The smile soon disappeared when she saw that I was panicking. She looked at my mom and gave her a look. "I'm trying" my mom told her.
"Your trying what?" I asked. I am so confused. The doctor came over and pulled a chair up next to the bed. "Maddie, I need to ask you a few questions" she said calmly. "Ok, but what is my mom trying to do?" I asked getting angry.
"Your mom is trying to keep you calm. It's just that we a pretty certain we know what is going on but these questions I'm going to ask you will confirm that" she explained. "Ok" I said propping the pillows up against the wall to lean on.
"Now first of all, do you feel like you can breathe alright?" She asked me. I then remembered I still had the breathing mask on. I nodded my head. "Alright, you can take the mask off for now" she said. I took the mask off my face and sat it on the bed next to me.
"Now can you tell me what happened before you passed out?" she asked me. "Which time?" I asked unsure on how to answer this question. "What do you mean by which time?" she asked me confused.
"Well I fainted and did something to my ankle. I also passed out as the girls were helping me get ready to come here" I finished. "The second time" she said.
"Well the girls were helping me put some warmer clothes on to come here." "Ok, what we're you feeling when they were helping you?" she asked as she was writing on her notepad.
"What does my feelings have to do with this?" I asked raising my voice. "Well your sister told us that your breathing got really heavy and you were a bit frantic" she said.
Oh yeah, I need to tell Mackenzie I'm alright. "Mom can we ring the girls to tell them I'm alright?" I asked. "Not now sweetheart, we can once we have finished talking to the doctor" she said.
"But I need to tell her I'm alright. She'll be freaking out because she doesn't know I'm alright" I said raising my voice. My breathing got heavy and my mom got up off the bed.
The doctor put the breathing mask back on me. I ripped it off because I didn't want. "Please Maddie, you need to put this on for now, your having another attack. Please put it on and you can ring your sister. We'll finish this later" she said holding the mask for me to put on.
I took the mask and put it on. My mom came over with her phone already ringing Abby. I took her phone and put it on loud speaker."Hello" Abby said in a stressed voice. "Hi Abby, it's me Maddie" I said cheerfully. "Oh Maddie, how are you?" She asked in a relieved voice.
"I'm good, how's the comp going?" "Good, good. Mackenzie and Kendall just came off from their duet" she said. "Can I talk to Mackenzie?" I asked hopefully. "Um, yeah. You'll just have to wait a minute for her to come back in here" she said.
"Oh ok" "So, how much have the doctors told you?" "Not much. I only woke up like five minutes ago. Although the doctor did come in to ask me some questions but we've put that on pause for now so I could ring you."
"Oh ok. Hang on a moment" Abby said. "Mackenzie, someone's on the phone for you" I heard Abby say. I smiled to myself happy that I was finally going to talk to her. "Who is it?" I heard Mackenzie ask Abby.
"Why don't you find out" I heard Abby say back to Mackenzie. "Hello, who is this?" Mackenzie said. "Hi Kenze, it's Mads" I said cheerfully. "Maddie, your awake" she practically yelled into the phone.
"Hey everyone, Maddie's awake" I heard her yell to the others. I heard a few yays in the background. "So Kenze, how was the duet?" "It was really good, we didn't miss a beat and we did the lift perfectly" she told me excitedly.
"That's good, make sure you come visit when the comp is over" "I will, I've gotta go though. I need to get ready for the group dance" she said. "Ok, cya later Kenzie" "Bye Maddie" she said.
"You rest up Maddie. I'll come see you later" Abby said. "Ok, see you later" I said. I hung up the phone and gave it back to my mom. I grabbed the remote for the bed and made it go up so that I could lean up against the mattress.
"Maddie, may we continue now that you have spoken to your sister" the doctor asked. "I guess" I said not really caring.
A/N: So, the doctor is pretty certain they know what has happened to Maddie.
