Chapter 57

( A/n: Part 3 of What Flies Beneath )

( In The Whispering Death Tunnels )

Tida was still on top of the Whispering Death's head, as the dragon was going through the tunnels it made. She then waved at Hiccup and Fishlegs when they went past them.

Fishlegs: ( whispers: ) Hiccup, did you see-

Hiccup: ( whispers: ) Can it wait?

Tida then waved at them again when she and the Whispering Death slithered by them.

Hiccup: ( whispers: ) Let's just hope it keeps going and that Tida keeps it calm...

The Whispering Death then stopped in its tracks.

Fishlegs: ( whispers: ) How'd that work out for us?

Hiccup and Fishlegs then saw a bite mark on the Whispering Death's tail, before it slithered away with Tida.

Fishlegs: Did you see that?!

Hiccup: Was that a bite mark?

Fishlegs: Not just any bite mark, that's a Night Fury bite mark. I think I know why these two are looking for each other.

Hiccup: They have a history.

Fishlegs: A grudge.

Hiccup: If that's true, how long do dragons carry a grudge?

Fishlegs: To the death...

Hiccup: Let's get out of here before it comes back.

Fishlegs: That is a really good idea.

( With Tida and the Whispering Death )

The Whispering Death silently growled as it saw that Hiccup and Fishlegs were in its tunnels, then it glanced up at Tida as she clapped her hands with a smile.

Tida: ( Happily: ) Hic Hic! Fish!

Tida then held onto the Whispering Death's spines as it began slithering towards the two dragon riders. Tida watched as Fishlegs was pulled out of the hole.

Tida: ( happily: ) Hic Hic!

Hiccup turned around when he heard Tida's voice as he was trying to reach for Astrid's hand, and his eyes widened.

Tida: Hic Hic! Kitty play!

Hiccup: Oh, no-

The Whispering Death pushed Hiccup out of the hole with a cloud of dust, and went to catch him with his teeth, but Tida then gently smacked the dragon's head.

Tida: Bad Kitty!

Tuffnut: ( is watching with a smile ) I bet they can see our house from up there.

Astrid: Storm-

Meryl: ( off-screen: ) Hiccup!

The Riders see Meryl launch herself in the air by a tree branch and she grabbed Hiccup, and they land safely in another tree, and climbed down to the ground.

Hiccup: Thanks, Mery.

Meryl: Anything for my favorite viking. ( Looks at the Whispering Death and Tida ) Is Tida riding the Whispering Death, or did I go crazy?

Hiccup: Yes, she is.

Tuffnut: I don't think he likes you in its hole, and I don't think Tida like it trying to hurt you...

Hiccup: Yeah, I got that.

The Whispering Death glanced up at Tida and whined, as it felt bad for upsetting the toddler.

Tida: Kitty no hurt Hic Hic.

Meryl: " Hic Hic ". I swear she's getting more adorable by the day.

Snotlout: Can we get out of here! Please?

Meryl: Are you crazy?!

Ruffnut: We aren't going anywhere without Tida!

Tuffnut: Our mom would kill us. And I mean all of us.

Hiccup: I know I can train this thing. Anybody got some Dragon nip?

Meryl: ( to self: ) Here he goes again, possibly getting himself killed.

All the riders, except Meryl and Onyx, handed Dragon nip to Hiccup. Tida then pets the Whispering Death as Hiccup attempts to train it.

Hiccup: ( to the Whispering Death: ) Don't be afraid... I'm a friend. Here. ( Holds out the dragon nip to the Whispering Death ) You'll love this. All the dragons love this.

The Whispering Death sneezed the Dragon nip towards the other dragons, making them swoon blissfully and it made Tida giggle.

Snotlout: Oh, great. Now we're defenseless.

Hiccup: Any ideas? I'm throwing it wide-open to the group.

Snotlout: I got an idea.... RUN!

The Whispering Death chases the group, but is suddenly tackled by Toothless, making Tida cried out in fear as she held onto the Whispering Death's head spines.

Meryl: Toothless!

Tuffnut & Ruffnut: Tida!

Tida: ( is scared: ) Kitty! Huff! Wuff!

Toothless chases the Whispering Death away, not knowing that Tida was on its head. Hiccup tries to get on Toothless's back, but once again Toothless doesn't let him.

Hiccup: Hey, bud. It's me. I know what's going on with you and that other dragon. Let me help you.

Toothless runs off, and Meryl followed after the Night Fury, who blasted a plasma blast at Hiccup feet, telling him to not follow, the Night fury then growled at Meryl.

Meryl: Like it or not, Toothless, I'm helping you. It has Tida.

Toothless's eyes widened as he finally noticed that Tida was on the Whispering Death. Toothless growled, thinking the Whispering Death was the one scaring the toddler.

Meryl: The Whispering Death isn't the one scaring her, Toothless! You are! She bonded with the Whispering Death.

Toothless's angry face turned into one of confusion, as he didn't understand why the toddler would bond with the Whispering Death.

The Whispering Death glared at Toothless, as the toddler was now crying as she held onto the dragon, as the night fury was scaring her, so the legless dragon went into the ground, losing the night fury and Meryl.

Meryl and Toothless ran through the trees, looking for the Whispering Death and Tida. Meryl then heard something behind her and Toothless, they turn around and saw Hiccup approaching them.

Meryl: Hiccup, can you please stop putting yourself in danger this one time? Me and Toothless got this.

Hiccup: It's good to see you both are still okay. You both had me worried-

The Whispering Death appears from the ground with Tida still on its head and holding onto its head spines, it growls at Toothless, as it was mad at him for scaring the Scalewalker toddler.

Hiccup: ( to Toothless: ) You can just walk away from this-

Toothless pushed Hiccup away, and Meryl got on his back.

Meryl: Come on, Toothless! We need to get Tida! I might not be as good with saddles as Hiccup, but-

Toothless then flew into the air, with the help of Meryl, but they weren't in the air for long, as Meryl didn't fully know how to work Toothless's saddle, Toothless shoots plasma blasts and making sure not to hit Tida, but is knocked down by the Whispering Death.

Fishlegs: ( to Hiccup: ) You were so close. I thought you had him!- Oh, Thor, Meryl isn't doing so great with Toothless's saddle.

Hiccup: They need our help!

( With Meryl & Toothless, and Tida & the Whispering Death )

Meryl continued trying to figure out how to use Toothless's saddle, as Toothless told the other dragons to back off, as it wasn't their fight.

Tida cried in fear and held onto the Whispering Death's head spines for dear life, as she didn't know why Toothless was trying to hurt the dragon she had made friends with. The Whispering Death corners Toothless and Meryl on a cliff ledge, with no escape.

Meryl and Toothless then saw Hiccup freefall into the canyon, Toothless dives to save him.

Meryl: Hiccup!

Meryl then lets Hiccup get on and take control of Toothless's saddle midair.

Meryl: Oh, thank Thor. ( Gently smacked Hiccup on the back of his head ) Stop scaring me like that!

Hiccup: ( to both Meryl and Toothless: ) You save me, I save you! That's the way it is!

The Whispering Death shots several spikes at them, but they avoided all of them. Then it tried to fire a ring of fire at them, but they avoided it's attack again, Tida then looked up and saw that the Whispering Death was fighting Toothless, Hiccup, and Meryl, which made her try to get her dragon friend to stop as Toothless fired a plasma blast at the dragon, but it avoided the attack.

Tida: Kitty no! No hurt!

Sunlight beamed from the clouds, and onto the Whispering Death, blinding the dragon, causing it to retreat into the ground with Tida on his back. Fishlegs noticed this.

Fishlegs: The sunlight, Hiccup! That's its weakness!

Hiccup: ( to Toothless: ) Okay, bud. Keep him above ground.

Toothless shoots plasma blasts down into the Whispering Death holes, making the Whispering Death go above ground in order to keep Tida safe.

Tida: ( scared as her hands slipped and she fell off the dragon: ) Kitty!

The Whispering Death roared in distress as it saw Tida fall off it's head, but thankfully, the twins caught the toddler, Tuffnut catching her mid air.

Ruffnut: That is amazing!

Tuffnut: ( to Barf and Belch: ) We've got to find you an arch-nemesis.

Tida: ( reached out to the Whispering Death with a sad expression: ) Kitty!

The Whispering Death whined and looked at Tida with a sad look in its eyes, not paying attention to where it was flying, and it flew straight into a mountain wall. Toothless pinned the dragon to the ground and was about to finish it with a plasma blast, Tida began to tear up as she watched, but Hiccup and Meryl quickly stopped the night fury.

Hiccup: Toothless no!

Toothless jumped off the Whispering Death and lets it fly off underground. They then joined the other riders.

Snotlout: Aw, man! Toothless could have finished him off!-

Tida jumped out of Tuffnut's grasps and kicked Snotlout...in between the legs, with a angry expression on her face, shocking the other riders and dragons as Snotlout bend over to the ground in pain.

Tida: Bad!

Tuffnut: That was awesome!

Ruffnut: Get him, sis!

Meryl: Anyway, I guess not all dragon grudges aren't to the death.

Fishlegs: I guess I'll have to change that in the book.

Toothless tried to sniff at Tida to check if she was okay, but Tida pushed him away with a pout, and she crossed her arms, turning away from the night fury, making him whine.

Hiccup: Tida, what's wrong?

Tida: ( tears up ) Kitty.

Meryl: Oh... She's upset with Toothless for chasing away the Whispering Death.

Tuffnut: ( picks Tida up and wipes away her tears ) It's okay, Tida. I know what'll cheer you up, yak tipping!

Ruffnut: Yeah!

The other riders watched the twins and their Zippleback fly off to try to cheer the Scalewalker toddler up.

Onyx: I kinda feel bad about scaring the Whispering Death away, now. Tida seemed to really have bonded with him.

Toothless whined, and Meryl gave him some scratches under his chin to cheer him up.

Meryl: Yeah. But, if we didn't, it could've destroyed Berk.

( Later that evening, with Tida )

Tida sneaked out of the house while her family was fast asleep, and tried to go to the Whispering Death holes to look for her dragon friend, but she saw that they were all covered by boulders. She then stopped at a covered Whispering Death on in the woods, and sat down on the ground, tearing up as she was upset that her dragon friend was gone. Suddenly she heard a familiar purr, and looked up to see the Whispering Death flying above her and it nuzzled her, quickly cheering her up.

Tida: ( happily, hugs the Whispering Death: ) Kitty!

The Whispering Death, accepting the name " Kitty ", purred happily, lands on the ground, and carefully wraps itself around the toddler.

( Meanwhile with Meryl, at her house )

Meryl heard a knock on her door, and opened it to see Hiccup and Toothless.

Meryl: Hey, Hiccup, why are you up this late-

Hiccup: I wanted to say sorry about our argument about-

Meryl: No, Hiccup, I'm sorry. You were right. Even though Toothless told us to back off, you were right about him not being able to fight the Whispering Death by himself. Now, come inside, I was making dinner for me, Liv, and the two goofy dragons of mine, there's enough for all six of us.

Toothless roared happily and ran inside the house, pushing Hiccup inside along with him, Meryl chuckled and closed the door behind them.______________________________________________________________________________________________
