Chapter 43
03:16, 19 July 2023( A/n: Part 3 of Heather Report part 1 )
Onyx was at Gobber's shop with Fáfnir, and a Terrible Terror with a bunch of thorns in his left front claw, when Heather approached him without him noticing.
Heather: Hi, Onyx-
Onyx: ( jumps out of fright, almost dropping the terror ) THOR'S MOTHER!! ( To Heather: ) Don't sneak up on a dragon healer, Heather. Especially when he's with a patient.
Heather: Sorry. ( The terror whines ) ( to the terrible terror: ) To the both of you.
The terror purrs before Onyx began to slowly pull the thorns out of the tiny dragon's claw, and once he was halfway finished, Heather began asking him questions.
Heather: So, Onyx. What kind of dragon is yours? I've never seen anything like him.
Onyx: He's a Boneknapper. Don't let the name scare ya. Boneknappers are gentle giants once you earn their trust.
Fáfnir sniffed at Heather in curiosity, but he was careful, as he didn't want to accidentally hurt her. Onyx finished taking the thorns out of the Terror's front claw and let the terror fly off.
Heather: He is very much a giant.
Onyx: That's what a lot of people say about me, so... That's why he's the perfect dragon for someone like me.
Gobber: ( off-screen: ) Onyx! A little help here, son!
Onyx: Coming! ( To Heather: ) Sorry, I have to go help Gobber.
( With Tida and Tuffnut )
Heather was now on Barf, while Tida was on Belch with Tuffnut. Ruffnut was nowhere to be found.
Heather: So, Tuff, tell me how this works again?
Tuffnut: Okay, you yank his head, he barfs up this nasty gas, and I spark it. But don't breathe it in.
Heather: Why not?
Tuffnut: You don't want to know. ( To Tida: ) Cove your nose, little sis.
Tida then covers her nose with a giggle.
Tuffnut: Just give me the signal.
Heather: What's the signal?
Tuffnut: Ah...man, I always forget that.
Heather: How 'bout " fire "?
Tuffnut: Wow, you're good at this. Much better than my sister, Ruffnut I mean, whom I can easily get rid of, by the way.-
Tida didn't like what she was hearing, and made a cute little growl in response, making Heather chuckle.
Heather: Why don't we focus on the task at hand?
Tuffnut: Right. Okay, ready?
Heather: ( nods ) Ready.
Heather then yanked on Barf's head, spewing out the toxic and highly explosive gas.
Tuffnut: Signal! Ugh, darn- I mean, FIRE!
Tuffnut then yanked on Belch's head, lighting the gas, resulting in the explosion to destroy a boat in mere seconds. Tida giggled and clapped her hands.
Heather: ( nervously: ) What do we do now?
Tuffnut: Usually we hide... until the Chief finds us. Then we get in trouble. Or, worse, we get caught by Mer-
Meryl: ( off-screen: ) WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!
They turned and saw Meryl in the distance, glaring at Tuffnut with her hands on her hips.
Meryl: TUFFNUT THORSTON, YOU BETTER PRAY THAT I DIDN'T JUST SAW YOU TEACHING HEATHER AND TIDA HOW TO BE CHAOTIC!!
Tuffnut: This is the time we run, Tida!
Tuffnut picks Tida up, and gets off Belch to make his escape, Heather gives Meryl a nervous smile.
Meryl: Put away that smile, Heather. I know that Tuffnut somehow talked you into this, come on.
( A few minutes later )
Heather and Meryl were now back in Meryl's house. Goofball and Evergreen were roughhousing outside.
Heather: Sorry about the explosion, and the boat... I just wanted to know more about dragons...
Meryl: It's okay, Heather. What do you want to know?
Heather: What can you tell me about Egg biters? Besides them trying to eat rock that don't in their mouths.
Meryl: ( laughs ) Okay, only Goofball does that. Egg biters have very strong bites, some can even bite through metal.
Heather listened in interest.
Meryl: They are strong fighters who will protect its young and its rider at all costs. There's a subspecies of the egg biter called, the Mastospawn. Very rare for an unknown reason. Those that do survive to adulthood are generally strong enough to defeat their parents in battle at the moment of their hatching. This makes this species rare, but mighty.
Heather: Wow. Where did you learn all of this?
Meryl: My grandfather had a habit of learning about every dragon he came upon, he passed it down to my father before he passed away, and my father passed some of it down to me.
Heather: What about Evergreen's species? I've never seen anything like her.
Meryl: Evergreen is... A Green Death. We basically know nothing about her species. All we know is that she'll grow up into a gigantic dragon that is magma-proof. And that her species age slower than most dragon species.
Heather: So, Evergreen will literally won't be little forever.
Meryl: Oh... ( Chuckles ) No, she won't. But, she'll always be my little troublemaker.
Evergreen then ran inside the house, did zoomies all around the place, before running back outside and play tackles Goofball. Both Meryl and Heather laughed at the two dragons.
Heather: ( to Meryl: ) So, can you tell me something about Scalewalkers? Like something the others might not know?
Meryl: Hmm. Well... I was planning on telling Hiccup and the gang someday when they least expect it, but... When I was a little girl, my parents used to tell me these legends about these Scalewalkers that were born with their own unique ability that no normal Scalewalker can be able to do. These Scalewalkers could be born from any kind of Scalewalker, but my parents said that because of our species being endangered, no one knows if the Galdr Scalewalkers have ever existed or not.
Heather: Galdr, meaning magic?
Meryl: Yep. But, again, no Scalewalker knows if they ever existed or not.
Heather: Wow. How would you know if you see one?
Meryl: the Legends says that Galdr Scalewalkers are always born with bright red eyes and dark gray hair. No matter what kind of Scalewalker they are.
Heather: Wow. How come you didn't tell the others this?
Meryl: What's the fun of telling them everything I know about Scalewalkers? One, it would take forever. And two, it ruins the surprise. And lastly, I like the look of Hiccup's face when he's surprised, it's adorable.
Evergreen then walks in with a small rock in her mouth and placed it in front of Heather with a purr.
Meryl: Looks like Evergreen likes ya.
Heather: ( to Evergreen ) Aw, thank you.
Evergreen purrs in response, and they turned to see that Goofball was trying to push a small boulder into the house even though it couldn't fit in the doorway.
Meryl: ( to Goofball: ) No. Goof, you are not bringing that into the house! It doesn't even fit through the door!
Heather stiffened a laugh as the Egg biter continues to try to push the small boulder into the house.
