Chapter 38

( A/n: Dragon Flower Part 2 )

Onyx and Gothi were at Meryl's house, discussing what to do while taking care of Meryl and her dragons, Onyx was using his abilities to communicate through minds to communicate with Gothi.

Onyx: ( placed a wet cloth on Meryl's forehead ) ( to Gothi, in her mind: ) " We need to think, what could possibly be the cure for the blue death. We have less than two weeks to find a cure or Meryl and all the affected dragons will pass away. "

Gothi: ( in response, through Onyx's mind: ) " We can't do this alone, young Onyx. Have you tried asking your friends for help? "

Onyx: " No. They already have enough to deal with, with their dragons being affected, and... I don't want Hiccup to...go through the same pain I did... It took forever to convince him to leave her side. "

Stoick then burst into the room with the riders behind him.

Stoick: Onyx, Gothi, I just heard about what happened. Any progress?

Onyx: No, sir...

Fishlegs: Wait! ( Takes out the Botany book he got from Trader Johann ) What is the Blue Death known as to Vikings, again?

Onyx: Blue oleander. Why?

Fishlegs: It's on Chapter Eight. They're very beautiful, very soft, and poisonous to reptiles-

Onyx: We already know this, Fishlegs. What we need to know is how the Blue Death got here and how to cure it. There's no way in Valhalla that they sprouted from seeds overnight, someone had to plant those devil plants when they were already in bloom.

Tuffnut: Mildew. I saw him plant them the other night.

Onyx: ( sharply and with a growl: ) What?

Astrid: ( to Tuffnut: ) And you didn't think that was strange?

Tuffnut: No. Well, maybe. I don't know! Quit pressuring me!

Stoick: Let's go pay the old man a visit.

Onyx then stood up and started walking out with fury in his eyes and a growl.

Astrid: We should get to Mildew before Onyx does.

( A few minutes later )

As soon as Mildew walked out the door after hearing a knock on his door, Onyx grabbed him by his shirt and pinned the old man against the outside wall of the hut, with a growl. Stoick, Hiccup, and Astrid got there soon after.

Stoick: Looks like Onyx beat us to him.

Mildew: Stoick! Help me, get this demon off me-

Onyx: ( to Mildew, angrily: ) You planted those devil flowers in the village!

Mildew: Well, so what if I planted some flowers? The town square has never looked better. I was merely trying to spread some beauty and happiness-

Onyx: WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT BEAUTY AND HAPPINESS!! BECAUSE  OF YOU, MERYL AND THE DRAGONS ARE SLOWLY DYING!!

Hiccup: ( Angrily, to Mildew: ) You did this!!

Mildew: What? Me? Ha!

Onyx growled at Mildew, who just rolled his eyes at him.

Mildew: ( to Stoick: ) I had no inkling, Stoick that these flowers had special properties. It's true, I'm not a friend to dragons or scalewalkers, but in this case, in my life, I was not trying to harm them.

Onyx growled at Mildew, then Stoick pat Onyx on the back, as a way to tell him to let Mildew go as he didn't see a point in arguing with the old man. Onyx then drops Mildew on the ground.

Stoick: ( to the teens: ) Let's go.

( Slight Time Skip )

Stoick and the rider are now in the Haddock House, and Fishlegs ran in with his Botany book and the book of dragons. Onyx quickly saw that something was wrong, as Fishlegs looked like he was about to burst into tears.

Onyx: Fishlegs, calm down, tell me what's wrong...

Fishlegs: My Botany book says that Blue oleander is poisonous to reptiles! And dragons are reptiles, and Scalewalkers are can turn into reptiles!

Hiccup: We know that! Is there anything else?

Fishlegs: Not in here. ( Opens the book of dragons ) But I remembered the book of dragons talked about a dragon that feeds on Blue oleander. It's called the Scauldron. ( He shows them the Scauldron page ) In a perfect world, if it eats the flowers, maybe it's venom can be used as an antidote, like with spiders and snakes. But alas, we do not live in a perfect world. Look! The Scauldron has no venom!

Tuffnut: No...but it looks cool!-

Onyx glared at Tuffnut, making him and Ruffnut raise their hands up in surrender as they didn't want to risk dealing with the NightStalker's wrath.

Fishlegs: ( hysterically: ) Don't you understand? The book says no venom!

Tuffnut: Okay, got it. No venom! Onyx, please stop glaring at us...uh, Astrid? A little help? His bright amber eyes makes his glare a whole lot scarier than what I'm used to.

Gobber: ( off-screen: ) The book is wrong!

The group turns to see Gobber walking towards them, Tuffnut let out a silent sigh of relief as Onyx was no longer glaring at him.

Gobber: I've dealt with a Scauldron before. They're sixty feet long, with razor-sharp teeth! And they'll shoot boiling water that melts the flesh from your bones! The Scauldron has no fear. No conscien-

Onyx: ( ahem ) Didn't we have a talk about about the view you have on certain dragons, Gobber?

Gobber: The point is... What the Scauldron does have is venom! And lots of it!

Tuffnut: I'm out!

Ruffnut: I'm with him.

Hiccup: ( to the riders, besides Onyx: ) Alright...you guys stay here and take care of your dragons.

Astrid: I'll take care of Meryl and her dragons as well.

Fishlegs: ( to Hiccup and Onyx: ) What are you going to do?

Onyx: We are about to go fishing.

Hiccup: Dad? Gobber? Onyx? Let's go find ourselves a Scauldron.

Gobber: I thought you'd never ask!

Onyx: Chief, may I request something?

Stoick: What is it, Onyx?

Onyx: I say we bring an extra pair of hands on broad.

Stoick: ( knows what Onyx is thinking, agrees ) Of course. The more hands, the better.

Onyx cracks his knuckles with a smile before walking out.

Hiccup: Dad... What was that about?

Stoick: He's just gathering the rest of the crew, son. Nothing to worry about.

Hiccup raised his brow at Stoick, as he had a bad feeling about what Onyx and Stoick were talking about.

( Meanwhile with Onyx )

Onyx was now a dragon and he was on Mildew's roof, he used his tail to bust a hole in the roof and grab Mildew.

Mildew: What is the meaning of this?! Let go of me, beast!

Onyx: ( sternly, to Mildew: ) You are going to help fix what you've caused. Or you'll see how I deal with people who cause the deaths of an island full of dragons and of a teenage girl.  So shut your ugly mouth, and play nice, unless you want to mess with the ex-son of Alvin the Treacherous. Huh? Is that what you want, Mildew?

Mildew says nothing, and which caused Onyx to smile.

Onyx: Good viking. That was the smartest thing you've done since I met you.
