Chapter 14

I walked out of the school main entrance and avoided his existence . I wasn’t a hundred percent sure he was waiting for me but when he started walking after i past by , i knew i was right . He called out to me but i blocked out my ears from his voice . I may have teased him in class but that doesn’t mean he can act like nothing has ever happened . He’s a fast walker and he grabbed my shoulder when he caught up with me . I violently brushed his hands off and fasten my pace . Again , he managed to catch me again and this time i could assume by his face that he wasn’t taking a no for an answer . 

“Maya please. You can’t run away from me forever nor can you try to avoid those feelings.”

I paused for a moment then turned my head completely to the left with my body still in it’s position . 

“Maybe i can’t .. but i know better than to hurt my own bestfriend .”

“….”

We took a brief second to ponder over each other’s face then sighed deeply . 

I opened my mouth to say something but then retreated thinking it was a bad idea that might ruin even the friendship we had left . What were we now exactly ? Friends ? The ‘ i like you and you like me back too’ friends ? We were both standing on this fragile line that was seemingly about to snap . Our friendship was at it’s risk . I didn’t want to have to say goodbye but if its for the best of everything than i have no choice . 

Lucas sighed again . He walked closer until we were about 5 feet away . 

He gave a disappointed look on his face , “You don’t know how much i want to kiss you right now” 

“Lucas …” i stammered .

I closed my eyes , sighed then looked straight into his eyes . Hoping that whatever i have to say next will leave him with something to remember . 

I continued , “It takes everything in me not to love you . I wish i could run to you and hold you but i hope you know that every time i don’t , i almost do .”

“I almost do.” i added before walking away from the conversation . 

He stood there watching me fade away into the distance .

That night at my house , Farkle and i were finishing up our history project on John Quincy Adam . We spent hours trying to create the perfect slideshow and we rewarded ourselves with home baked sugar cookies that Farkle brought over which of course was made by his mother . We munched on our cookies while watching netflix on Farkle’s laptop . It was the kind of night i would imagine spending with Riley but i guess this was alright . Farkle stopped the movie abruptly and got up from his sitting position . He then brought up a conversation topic about Lucas and Joshua . 

“So do you still want me to help you in your little game of love.” he smirked .

“I guess.”

“Alright then i have a few questions to ask before we begin.”

“Go ahead.”

“Tell me why do you love them.”

“I don’t know .. I guess because Lucas is sensible and so incredible while Josh is charming and endearing and i’m always comfortable around him .”

“What about me ?”

“Farkle” I frowned .

“Ok kidding .. but seriously though , what do they have that i don’t ?”

“Oh you know i love you Farkle .. just not in that way.”

“Can’t argue with you . Ok so just pick one.”

“I can’t . I don’t want to make either one of them a choice.”

“Then .. I think you’ve just found the answer . I believe you’ll do the right thing form here on.”

“Thanks Farkle” 

We hugged and pulled apart to look at each other . 

“Would it be a bad idea if i were to kiss you right now ?” he asked 

I laughed , “MAJOR bad idea”  

“Ah well , i tried.”

We both laughed in unison . Farkle gathered all his things afterwards and headed home . 

After i closed my front door , i heard my phone ringing from inside my room so i quickly went over to pick it up before  the caller decided to give up waiting . I clicked the green phone image and answered . 

“Hello”

“Hi Maya , hows the project coming along ?” she asked through the phone . 

“It’s all done ! Farkle is already on his way home.”

“Oh thats great to hear . Umm , i’m gonna have to call you back.”

“What ? Is there something wrong ?”

“Nope just .. umm .. I’m kinda busy with something . Bye !”

She hung up on me . Riley Matthews hung up on me ?
