Kyrin

I woke up to the sun shining through the blinds. Squinting, I shifted some before sitting up all together.

"Fuck. No. No. No. No." I repeated as I realized where I was and that I was not supposed to spend the night here.

Searching for my phone, I came up dry.

The door to the bedroom opened and Langston stumbled in as he whisper-yelled. "We were not supposed to spend the fucking night at the dope house!"

I hurried and got up out the bed. "You think?! If my girlfriend finds out I spent the night at— Fuck Janet! Langston where the fuck is my phone? Help me find it."

Janet was going to kill me. I had forgot to call her yesterday night.

My friend and I began searching for my phone in the bedroom and finally when I looked under the bed, my eyes caught it's location. Reaching under the bed, I grabbed it.

"I got it." Langston was going through draws and I saw him pocket something. "Nigga, are you stealing their weed?"

"All the weed they got in the living room, they won't miss these grams. Be nice to me and I'll split it with you."

"Langston, we can worry on splitting it later because you are going to split it with me. Right now I need to get out of here and back to my fathers. How are we going to get out of here without waking C-Low?"

He shot me a look.

"The window Kyrin. Duh. Let's go." He went over and opened the window slowly trying not to make too much noise.

I climbed out first and he followed. Before we took off towards his car, we both pushed the window back down so it wouldn't be that obvious that we had taken that route to leave.

Getting into his car, he started it and I fished for his car charger. I plugged my phone up and prayed that I had no messages. Maybe Janet would think I went to sleep.

Letting out a little prayer, my phone vibrated beneath me signaling that it was turning on. Soon it began to ding as all the notifications began popping up.

Messages began rolling in and I took a deep breath before looking at Langston who was driving. "Ok, I'm dead meat."

"Hm... Should we smoke before we get there?" He asked to himself mainly as we stopped at a red light.

"Weed head, smoking got us here to begin with..." I trailed off as I saw a text from Phoebe. It told me that Janet was on her way to Texas. "Uh, actually, on second thought, I'll roll up."

He chuckled as he handed me the weed. "Thought so."

I pulled the Backwoods from the console and laid everything out in my lap. If I was going back to this house, I needed to go high. No questions asked.

Taking my time, I rolled up two blunts before I put everything back where it was and handed him his.

"I'm not going back until I feel lighter than a feather." I commented as I grabbed a lighter and lit up.

Langston looked at me weirdly before taking the lighter from my hands and lighting his. "Why?"

Looking at my phone, I took a hit and let it sit for a moment before exhaling. I shook my head. "My girlfriends in town. Guess my sisters told her that I took off yesterday."

"Oop. Damn, you in it now." He laughed softly before his eyes narrowed. "Girlfriend? Oh shit. You're gay now? Your parents are going to shit bricks."

Shaking my head, I sighed. "Don't remind me."

"Wait, you going in high?"

"Hell yes!" I exclaimed as he busted out laughing.

We pulled up to his house and parked as we stayed in the car hotboxing like we were teenagers again.

I let the seat back and looked up at the ceiling of the car. This was too much for me to balance right now and I couldn't help but let my mind wander.

Langston sat on side of me as he held my hand. He mumbled as I sat on the plastic of the chair. "You sure about this Kyrin? We don't have to do this."

"Yes we do. My daddy already struggling Langston. I don't have a job. We're graduating this year. I have a life and college. Plus, I'm not about to prove my momma right. She also says I'll never amount to anything. She's not going to be right about me. Nah, not me."

He sighed. "Alright, I'm riding with whatever you want to do baby. I gotchu regardless."

I smiled at him softly. "I know baby, and it means a lot."

Before he could reply the doctor walked in and she smiled at us. "Hello."

"Hi." I greeted back timidly.

"Well, Miss Broussard, I understand that you want to do this but you must know the risks—."

Digging the pamphlet out of my purse, I waved it around. "Already read up on it doc. Let's just get this over with please."

"What you thinking about?" Langston's voice yanked me out of my thoughts.

Looking over at him, I realized that half of my blunt was gone. "Remember you went with me to the clinic that day?"

He nodded as he adjusted in his seat. "Yeah, won't ever forget that one."

"Why'd you come with me? You've told me yourself that you are a hundred percent against abortions, why'd you come with me that day?"

"Cause you were my girlfriend and it's your body. I have my own opinion but at the end of the day, I am a man. I have never even remotely been through what you all go through as women. You have a say in your body, end of story."

Nodding slowly, I mumbled. "Thank you for coming. I don't think I ever said thank you for anything you did for me. For helping me get home that day, for coming with me to the clinic. All of that, thank you Langston, seriously."

"It's no problem Ky, and you know it isn't. I'm here for you, no matter the place or time. You know I'm here regardless. We broke up long ago, and I still been here. Right or wrong?"

I agreed. "Right."

"Aight then, nothing gone change that. Shit, we both then moved on to other relationships but we know how we rock. We was friends before we ever crossed that line. Loyalty never dies."

"That's true."

Langston and I had a past. A past that many would have walked away from. We just were both raised similar with the cards not playing in neither of our favor.

It was a unexpected love story and never did I see it coming but if you asked him, he would say the opposite.

"What happened to us anyways?"

"I packed my shit and went to UCLA." I snickered after I finished the statement and soon we were in the car dying of laughter.

"Man, see you too high. Let me take yo ass to yo daddy's." He put the car in drive and we road a few blocks up to my fathers place.

I looked at the clock and saw that it was 10 in the morning. Damn, I was high as shit at 10 am.

When the car stopped in front of my house, I got out the car and closed the car door. I waved Langston off as I went up to the front door.

Knocking, I waited until I heard footsteps approach. The door flew open and I came face to face with a pissed off looking father.

"Kyrin Paige, get in this house." He demanded sternly. "Where have you been?"

I chuckled at the fact that he looked like G.I Joe when he got angry before walking past him. Breakfast filled my senses and I rushed to the kitchen. I was starving.

My sisters stood in the kitchen, but I bypassed them and grabbed some bacon. It was silent as I began eating.

"Girl are you high?" Ember asked me.

Chuckling, I nodded. "As a kite."

"Why the hell would you come here blazed as ever knowing that Janet's—." Phoebe stopped talking when footsteps came our way.

I looked up to find Janet and my mother.

My mother held her chest. "Oh Kyrin. Thank God. I was worried sick."

Janet walked up to me and made a face. "Why do you smell like marijuana?"

Her question sent me into another fit of giggles as I shrugged.

My girlfriend sighed. "Seriously Kyrin?"

"We will... uh... give y'all a second." Phoebe spoke as her, Ember and my mother left the kitchen.

I giggled softly making Janet glare at me. "Kyrin Broussard, are you seriously high right now?"

"Maybe. A little bit."

She shook her head before rubbing her temples. "Where have you been?"

"With Langston," I mumbled before grabbing a fork and eating the eggs that sat in the pot.

"I've been calling and texting you. I was worried sick Kyrin. You can't do things like that."

When I looked at her face, I straightened out a little bit. "I'm sorry. My phone went dead and I— man, honestly it's on me. Ion really have an excuse. My bad."

"Your bad? It's—." Janet paused before nodding. "It's fine." She tried to walk by me.

I grabbed her hand, making her stop for a moment. "Where are you going?"

"Talk with your sisters. Talk to me when you aren't high Kyrin." Janet shook my hand off as she exited the kitchen.

Shaking my head, I leaned back against the counter as I ate my eggs. I was entirely too lit to do anything but eat right now.
