Chapter 8
16:52, 8 October 2021*The song is mostly for Alex but the Loki edit along with it gets me every time <3*
*Third Person POV*
Peter Parker coughed as the dust settled. He had tried to get to the machine as fast as he could, but he was too late. It exploded within seconds and threw everyone in the room back. Peter had managed to throw a web last second and catch the debris that came flying at Tony and the investors, saving them. Tony helped Peter up and he suddenly remembered why he was running to the machine in the first place.
"What the hell was that, Stark?!" One of the older men coughed and yelled as he stood up and dusted himself off. He had was so occupied with helping his colleagues up he forgot Tony put a living being inside of the machine.
"Tony! It's Alex!" Peter's fearful screams echoed through the lab. Sprinklers kicked on and put out the small fires and security had made their way inside the lab at this point. Peter was holding a badly burnt body in his arms and breathing heavily as he looked over at Tony. Stark sprinted to the pair and dropped to his knees as he reached out towards the young girl.
"No, no, no, no, no, no! Damnit!" He screamed as he pulled his hands away from her. She wasn't moving. Peter couldn't sense anything from her.
"FUCK!" He yelled out as he brought his hands to his face and rubbed his temples. The other men slowly made their way over to the trio and sighed as they continued to dust themselves off.
"All a matter of who has the dangerous thing, huh Stark?" One coldly asked him. Tony clenched his jaw as he stood up and then suddenly swung on the man, his fist crashed into the man's face and the man hit the ground. Peter closed his eyes tightly as Tony dropped back to his knees and stared at the girl.
He had only known her for a few weeks but he was already so attached to her. She reminded him of himself and Pepper Pots. The two people he loved most in this world. She was promising. Someone Tony wanted around him at all times.
Peter was just as devastated, not just because he blamed himself for this, but because he had grown fond of Alex. She seemed like someone he could make friends with. He knew M.J would have loved her. And he killed her.
Alex suddenly let out a small raspy gasp in Peter's arms and Tony pulled his hands from his face and stared at her with wide eyes. He gently took her head in his hands and they listened for a sign, anything to let them know she was still alive. She softly inhaled again and both Tony and Peter knew they had to act fast.
"You." Tony pointed to one of the men.
"Call 911 for yourself and the others." He ordered.
"Where's Happy. I need Happy. Someone get me Happy and call S.H.I.E.L.D!! They're the only ones who can help us!" He shouted.
"How can they help us, Tony?? She- look at her!" Peter was in tears at this point. He knew he was directly responsible for this and it killed him inside. Happy burst through the doors and his eyes went wide.
"Jesus Christ." Happy gasped as he ran his fingers through his hair and stared down at Peter and Alex. Tony shot his eyes up to Happy and he felt like he wanted to kiss the man for giving him the idea.
"That's how! With Loki!"
*Loki's POV*
"I'm just saying, brother. She seemed to show quite the interest in you." Thor was rambling on about some alien woman on this planet who tried to sleep with me. I turned her away, obviously. He just didn't understand I wasn't looking for someone to hook up with.
"Why do you not care?" He laughed as he grabbed my cup of ale.
"Is it because you have that human on your mind? Hm?" He raised a brow and then chugged my drink down, setting the empty wooden cup back in front of me.
"Excuse me?" I scoffed. I knew he was talking about Alex, and he was right. She had been on my mind since the moment I saw her in Tony's living room. She was the most beautiful human I'd ever seen. And on top of her beauty, she was intelligent, fun, and strong willed. She stood up to Fury on my behalf. Something my idiot brother never bothered to do. She saw the world as I did, new and exciting. It intrigued me, I wanted to be around her more. Learn from her. Teach her. She showed me more kindness than almost anyone I've met on Earth so far. But it's hard to blame the humans for not wanting to be kind to me. To them, I was still that monster who tried to destroy New York all those years ago.
"Lady Alex." Thor laughed again, pulling me from my thoughts.
"I do not wish to discuss this with you." I scoffed as I stood up and walked away from the table. It was none of his business who was on my mind and why. The devices S.H.I.E.L.D had given us for important off world communication began to ring in my pocket. I pulled it out and read the message.
"Emergency on EARTH. Loki and Thor's presence requested IMMEDIATELY." I rolled my eyes as the message replayed itself two more times. I walked back over to my brother and saw that he received his message as well.
"Looks like our time here has been cut short. Back to Earth." I sighed as I crossed my arms. I liked Earth, it was a nice little world. But I had no freedom. When I was sent out on missions off world I was able to do go where I wanted and do as I pleased, as long as I didn't try to run away. But on Earth, I was forced to stay in Tony's building until my next mission. It was depressing.
Well, with Alex around it's become more enjoyable. She's always there, ready to learn something new from me or teach me something about humans. She always picks the best movies to watch, I don't really enjoy them, it's more that I enjoy watching her enjoy herself.
Our devices went off again, letting us know another message had come through. I raised a brow and looked down to the device again. I read the message and my heart hitched in my chest when I saw her name flashing in those big letters.
"Emergency on EARTH. Loki and Thor's presence requested IMMEDIATELY.
ALEX MORRISON'S life depends on it."
I snapped my attention to my brother and his face was as concerned as I felt. He grabbed my arm and nodded.
"We must not waste time." He sternly said. He called upon Heimdall to take us to Asgard. From there he would ask to be sent to Earth. That is how we traveled off world and to other planets. Earth made a deal with Odin that allowed us to use the bifrost. They keep me and we can use it when we need to.
We appeared on Earth at the location we were given within minutes of getting it. It was a hospital room. Nick Fury, Peter Parker, Tony Stark, Pepper and Happy all stood around a bed and I could only assume Alex was the occupant.
"Quick!" Tony suddenly shouted at me.
"Heal her!"
I rushed over without another thought and inhaled when I saw the state the human was in. She was so burnt I could barely recognize her. I could feel her pain inside and it made me sick. Not just the physical pain, the mental pain too. She wanted to die. I gently placed my hands on her chest and clenched my jaw as I closed my eyes. I focused all of my magic into my hands and into her body.
"Nothing's happening." Pepper cried out. I could feel her fighting me. She didn't want me to heal her. She was scared. I removed my hands from her chest and gently placed them on the sides of her face. I leaned in close and licked my lips before whispering to her.
"Alex, I need you to open those brown eyes. Please." I begged her. She was giving up. Fading away.
"Please. I need you to look at me. I need you to live with me. Open your eyes." I whispered again as I watched her eyes move slightly under her lids. She slowly opened her eyes and Pepper let out a loud sob before covering her mouth. I stared into Alex's big brown eyes and smiled as I pushed more magic into my hands.
"I'm going to use all of my astonishing, glorious, perplexing, curious, breathtakingly unbelievable magic that you love so much, and I'm going to heal you. But I need you to let me." I whispered. Alex closed her eyes and I could feel her letting me in. She opened herself up to me. I pushed all of my magic into her and her bloody burnt skin slowly faded away. Her rose pale skin slowly taking over. Her hair began to grow back, stopping at her shoulders like it was before and her thick eyelashes formed on her eyelids. I pushed more and more magic into her until I felt she was completely healed.
I gently removed my hands from her face and she slowly opened her eyes, meeting mine.
*Alex's POV*
I stared into Loki's green eyes once more and felt tears forming in my own. If not for him, I would haven given up and died right then and there. I tried to open my mouth to thank him but he gently shushed me and smiled as he took my hand.
"I know." I heard his voice in my head but he wasn't talking. I knew Loki had the ability to get into someone's head and read their thoughts, I just didn't know he could communicate that way too.
"Oh kid, thank god." Happy suddenly said. I tore my eyes from Loki and looked around at the other 6 people standing around my bed. Peter and Pepper both looked like they had been crying, Happy looked relieved, Fury looked annoyed, and Tony looked worried sick. He was pale and tense.
"T.J, never scare me like that again, okay??" Tony asked as he crossed his arms. I smiled and gently nodded my head. I was healed physically but mentally I felt incredibly weak.
"She probably needs to rest." Pepper said as she wiped her eyes and smiled at me. I gave her a small smile in return and she ushered the others out of the room. Loki was the last to leave, not wanting to leave at all. He walked out and Peter suddenly walked back in. He sat on the edge of my bed and stayed silent for a few minutes.
"Alex. I am so sorry." He finally spoke up. I knew he felt guilty. He and Tony had asked me to get into the machine and it almost killed me, who wouldn't feel guilty over that?
"It's okay. It's my fault too." I softly said as I reached out and put my hand on his shoulder. He sniffed, wiped away his tears and looked back at me.
"You almost died." He let out a harsh exhale as he furrowed his brows at me.
"Tony and i almost killed you!"
"Yeeaahh. But I didn't. You didn't. It was an accident, Peter. How were you guys supposed to know that was gonna happen?" I asked him as I crossed my legs and moved my hand from him. He turned more so he was facing me better and shook his head as he looked down to the bed.
"My Spider senses should have picked something up. They should have told me it was a bad idea to get in the machine. Why didn't they??" He was talking out loud but I knew he was asking himself that question and not me.
"Look, Peter-" He looked up at me and I smiled, assuring him I was okay.
"I'm not sure why your senses didn't warn you. Maybe you were just so relaxed and not expecting anything bad to happen, you subconsciously blocked them from being used. I dunno. But what I do know is that accidents happen. Tony probably feels bad too but he gets that it was an accident. I'm fine, he's fine, you're fine. We're all fine." I laughed a little as I motioned to my healed body and then to his.
"I'm a hero, Alex. I can't have accidents like that." He was being so harsh on himself.
"No, Spiderman is the hero. Peter Parker is just a normal guy. Accidents are allowed to happen to him." I pointed out as I shrugged. Peter let out a long sigh and nodded, giving me hope that he was feeling better about all of this. I really didn't blame either of them for what happened. I should have never gotten into the machine in the first place. It was stupid of me, even if I trusted Peter and Tony. It was dangerous.
The door slowly opened and a doctor wearing a S.H.I.E.L.D style uniform walked in and smiled at Peter and I. Peter gently patted my knee and got up from the bed, excusing himself as he walked past the doctor. He left the room, closing the door behind him and the nurse smiled widely at me.
"Thank god for Gods, huh?" She joked as she walked over to me. I laughed and nodded in agreement as she gently placed her hands on me. She examined every inch of my body and then walked over to the counter and grabbed a stethoscope from one of the drawers. She walked back over and placed it on my heart.
"Everything sounds good. I'm gonna run a few blood tests on you juuuuuust to make sure everything is perfect and then you can leave." She informed me as she took a step back. She grabbed the clipboard hanging off of my bed and pulled a blue pen from her pocket as she stared down at my medical information. She was twirling the pen between her pointer and middle fingers as her eyes scrolled down the sheet. The pen suddenly flew from her hand and she reached out to grab it. I knew I was too far to do anything, but out of instinct I reached out to catch it too.
Except, I actually caught it.
The pen floated off of the ground and I stared at it with wide eyes while the doctor snapped her eyes to me. She raised a brow and causally looked back at my sheet, reading over it again to see if she missed anything.
"Huh. It doesn't say you have telepathic powers on here. Normally they tell us about that kinda thing." She chuckled as she looked over at me. I was still in complete awe that I was even doing this and her voice just sounded muffled to me. I sat frozen with my hand out and the pen floating off of the ground, unsure of what to do next.
"I-I do- I don't." I whispered. I quickly pulled my hand back to me and held it against my chest with my other hand, the pen bouncing off of the floor. I tore my eyes from it and looked over at the doctor, who now understood what was happening. My breathing began to get shaky and I felt fear overtake me.
"W-What's going on. W-Why was I able to do that??" I asked her, hearing the fear in my own voice. Her eyes turned soft and she smiled a little as she walked over and picked up the pen. She wrote something down on my sheet and nodded as she looked back at me.
"Don't worry. I'll get Mr. Stark and we'll figure this out. You'll be okay." She was so polite and soft with her words, they were comforting.
I just didn't know if I could believe them.
