Battles of the Wands

04:07, 5 August 2024

It was finally time to work on dueling in the DA, we were all in the Room of Requirements.

Students stood along the wall across from the fireplace, I was pacing slowly. "Today we are starting dueling. Over the past months you have worked on your combination, now we will use those in real life situations." I stopped in the center of the line of students. "You will go one on one with me, I will only deflect and use the disarming charm. You will use your combinations. Understand?"

"Yes."

I rolled my eyes. "Alright." I looked down the line. "Neville."

Neville's eyes widened. "Me?" I nodded, he shyly stepped forward. "You sure?"

I smiled. "Come here?" I waved him closer, I whispered. "I don't mean to pry but I see the anger in your eyes, someone you fear yet hate." Neville nodded. "Pretend I am them." I stepped away. "Center of the room, we do this properly."

Neville and I went to the center, made the starting movements to a duel we learned during Lockharts classes and walked away before we turned back.

Neville held his wand straight out, I held mine up slightly. "Anytime you wish to stop say Pineapples." The class chuckled, Neville relaxed. "On your mark, Neville."

I nodded to him, he nodded back. "Petrificus Totalu." I blocked.

-------. . . ----Today was a special day with the DA, a day that I was hoping they would have the most fun with.

When I went to the Room of Requirements I wished for a room different then the one we usually used, a room to play a wizard version of capture the flag.

It worked and I totally dampened the Room of Requirements potential because the room it gave me was huge, almost as big as the Great Hall.

When everyone walked in their eyes widened, student by student the small space for observers filled.

Once everyone was their I climbed on top of a box. "Alright. Since you all have done amazing in your learning I decided to host a game. Since there is 26 of you there will be 4 groups. Two will have 6 and two will have 7 because of the uneven number. So let's do that."

I split them up into four groups, stepped down from the box and moved to the four flags on the table then went back up on the box and held them up.

"These are flags, each team will have one which will be placed and kept in one spot for the entirety of the game." I held up the red flag. "Red teams job is to guard their flag but also capture the other teams flags." I held up the other flags. "That is the same for each color, protect and capture. If your flag is captured your entire team is out, if you get hit by a disarming charm you are to go to jail until one of your teammates comes to free you. No cheating, tweedles."

""You're no fun."" The twins said together, everyone chuckled.

I smiled. "Team captains come up to pick a flag." Each came up and took a flag. "You have five minutes to pick a spot to hide your flag, but it has to be visible. When five minutes are up I'll send green sparks up, from that moment the game has begun."

"So this is just capture the flag?" Harry asked.

I rolled my eyes. "Thanks for making it sound lame." Harry smiled slightly. "But yes. Capture the flag is a muggle sport for those of you who do not know.... To review, you will protect your flag and try to capture other teams flags. If your flag is captured, AND brought to me your whole team is done. Which means if you see a person with your flag you can steal back by disarming them before I receive it... Understand?"

""Yes.""

I nodded. "If you are disarmed you raise your hand to signal you are on your way to jail." I pointed to the prison. "The only way to get out of jail is to have one of your teammates take you out." I gave a thumbs up. "All good? Understand?"

"What will you be doing?" Mione asked.

I smiled. "I'm glad you asked. I am the snitch of the game. You disarm me and your team wins the game, if I disarm you then you can't try again for two minutes." They all started to look at me hungrily. "But please don't all come at me at once, that wouldn't be fair."

(This is going to be crazy.)

"The point of this game is that you protect your flag and teammates, teamwork is key." I looked at my watch I got from Mione even though I am never late. "Five minutes starts now." They all ran into the maze. "This will be fun." I headed in.

(Let's get this over with.). . . "PURPLE TEAM IS DONE!" I yelled into the arena. . . . "ORANGE TEAM IS DONE!". . . "RED TEAM IS THE WINNER!" I heard a whole bunch of complaining noises as I yelled that across the arena. We all walked back to the entrance and I gathered the last flags. "I hope you had fun."

"Can we go it again next time?" Nigel asked.

I looked over the group. "If that is what you guys would like." They all gave a happy 'Yes' I smiled. "Then be prepared for this game again... Have a nice day, you all did amazing."

Mione came to me as they slowly left. "That was amazing, Liv. How did you think of capture the flag?"

I shrugged. "They needed to learn protect and think fast and I just thought of capture the flag."

She linked our arms. "You're very creative." I smiled and we walked out.

---------. . . ----"There were two types of Patronuses." I started to slowly walk back and forth with my hands in his pockets. "Corporeal, a Patronus that forms a particular animal. It varys from person to person and reflect each individual's innermost personality, sort of like a spirit animal."

(Thank god for my auditory memory, I'm like a recorder for Snapes lessons.)

"The other is an Incorporeal Patronus which has no particular shape. Incorporeal Patronuses are regarded as a simpler and weaker version of the Charm but still effective." I nodded to Harry.

Harry nodded back and stepped forward towards the group. "The Patronus is comprised exclusively of positive feelings. It acted as a shield of sorts, of which the Dementor would try to feed off instead."

Earlier I asked Harry to take a second in command for teaching the Patronus Charm since he has also conjured it, more than I have.

He agreed and now we are the Professors of the DA. We split up the students into two groups and both of us took one.
