Wand of Power

04:07, 5 August 2024

Turns out wands and me don't go together because I went through three more and either nothing happened or something did but it was apparently wrong. I don't get how it can work but be wrong at the same time.

Olivander came back with another and handed me a white wood wand. "Try this." I waved it and the lamps light grew bright enough to beak the bulb.

I smiled. "It worked." (Please tell me this is it...)

Olivander took it back. "Not the one." I groaned, he sighed. "I give in..." He mumbled something and walked back into the maze of shelves.

I sighed. "I've stumped the wand maker since 382 B.C." I squinted my eyes. "How long do these people live?"

Olivander walked back out slowly with a wooden case that looked to be molded with dust. "We will try this... He said to so I will."

I raised a brow. (Who said what?)

Olivander took out a wand that looked like it was broken right off of a twisty tree, white wood with a few brown details around the wand like ribbon. It was beautiful...

"Try this..." He handed it to me, a shiver ran down my body, he smiled. "Go ahead and wave it."

I waved the wand, the boxes of wands I blasted earlier seated themselves back on the shelves instead of being thrown around. "Please for the love of god tell me this is the one."

Olivander eyed me. "Ash wood, highly loyal; will not preform well for anyone bit its true owner." I nodded. "10 3/4 inches, unyielding."

"And the core? Is it unicorn like the others?"

Olivander shook his head. "Thestral tail-hair."

My brows furrowed. "What's a thestral?" I looked at the wand. "None of the others were this type."

"It is rarer than rare, powerful. There was only known to be one with such core but this one has been kept under lock and key for.... many many centuries. The original owners story faded away over time, while her other brothers story lived on, the story of the other wand."

I put it back in the box. "Can I have a wand that doesn't mean so much? Save this for someone else who needs it, I just want something simple."

"The wand chooses the witch, Miss. Not the other way around." He pushed the box to me, I frowned. "It didn't chose you for no reason, this is the oldest wand I have.. It knows who it wants."

I crossed my arms. "Look. I don't even know how long I will be in this magic world so I don't feel right taking something that means so much because it imprinted on me."

Dumbledore walked in. "Evening Olivander. Have we found a wand?" He walked to the front desk. "Ah." He looked at Olivander knowingly.

I squinted my eyes. "Did you tell him to give me this one?"

Dumbledore smiled softly. "Wands aren't given Olivia they are chosen."

Olivander looked at me. "Will you take this wand and look after it? Wands are not simple sticks, they need to be cared for.... Especially one this rare and old."

One of my crossed arms reached out and picked up the wand sighing. "Its pretty...."

I looked at Dumbledore, he raised a brow. "It is already chosen you Olivia."

I looked at the wand. "But... We are talking about a powerful wand and a emotionally unstable 11 year old." Both men seemed not to care, I sighed. "Alright. I'll care for... Do I name the wand since apparently it has a conscience?"

"If you wish you can but it is not necessary." Dumbledore said then turned to Olivander. "Thank you, Olivander. Always outdoing yourself."

Olivander smiled. "A pleasure to do business with you again, Albus." He turned to me. "Be careful, Miss." Olivander warned. "That wand will attract attention with its make."

"Come on, Olivia. We have to pick up your robes and make it back in time for dinner."

I nodded and tuned back to Olivander. "Bye, Mr. Olivander." He nodded and I walked out with my new wand, Dumbledore held the door open for me. "Why did you tell him to try this wand with me?"

Dumbledore smiled. "I might have sent a small whisper his way."

I put my wand away and raised a brow. "Can you explain?" Dumbledore gave me a small smile, I sighed. "Thank you anyways. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't stay." Dumbledore held the door open, I walked in and saw the lady at the counter. "Hello?"

She smiled. "You're uniforms are ready." A uniform sleeved hanger floated to the counter. "Anything else?" Another one came, than another.

My brows raised. "How many uniforms did you make me?"

"You needed a full set which includes winter robes, spring robes, and of course you cant just have one set of clothes for each." I turned to Dumbledore walking to the counter and placing a hat and gloves down. "Is that all?"

"Yes, thank you Madam Malkins." He placed the stacks of gold coins on the counter.

I frowned. "Are you sure you want to buy all of this for me?"

"Yes, Olivia." I sighed and looked to the three hanging clothes bags and the hat and gloves.

The woman smiled. "Did you get your wand?"

I glanced at Dumbledore. "Just a unicorn hair." He smiled softly. "It was nice to meet you." She nodded. "I got the uniforms." I grabbed them. "Thank you again Dumbledore." I swung the clothes onto my back as I held their hangers over my shoulder. I smiled at the women. "Goodbye." She nodded

We made it out of the shop. "Why did you say unicorn hair?"

I shrugged. "I rather keep it hidden. Its already hard to think I have some powerful wand."

Dumbledore lifted an arm. "Wise choice, Olivia." I placed my hand on his arm. "Element of surprise is always good." We whisked away.
