4: The Heart Of Destiny

I held out a hand to the next crew member I was meeting. He shook my hand offering a smile I can't quite distinguish. "나는 나래입니다. 당신은 누구시죠?" (I am Narae. Who are you ?) The person before me was absolutely stunning. The birthmark by his eye also just seemed to add even more to his unreal beauty. 

"Yeosang. Kang Yeosang." I was intrigued that he seemed to be the calmest from who I've met so far. However, an intensity lived in his eyes that I can't place. "What is your role ? Seonghwa is First Mate & Yunho is a swordsman..." Yeosang smiled as he looked out at the sea around the ship. "I am the distractor. I draw the attention so that the others don't have any issues." He said as confidently as I think he could portray. "전에 누군가 함정에 빠졌나요? 그래서 방해가 되기 위해 자신을 희생하는 건가요?" (Did someone get into a trap before ? Is that why you sacrifice yourself to be the distraction ?)

Yeosang  snarled as a memory suddenly came to the front of his mind. "I'd rather not talk about that. It isn't a pleasant memory at all..."

I didn't push him further, but redirected the conversation. I noticed the heart stone necklace he wore. "What is this ?" Yeosang clutched his necklace before slowly relaxing his body once more. "This gem is called the Heart Of Destiny. I always wear it." 

"Have you always had it or what it a personal gift ?" Yeosang sighed as he relaxed. I think he was just being cautious since I had asked such a question about someone falling into a trap. I assume whoever fell into a trap is the same person who possibly gave him the gem. 

"그것은 선물이었다. 제가 가장 감사하게 생각하는 선물입니다." (It was a gift. A gift I am most grateful for.) "Has a Drifter before tried taking it ? Is that why you tensed up when I asked ?" Yeosang nodded as the memory came back to him. "This gem was rumored to be a magical piece of treasure. It has no such properties. It was most unfortunate for the Drifters who tried stealing it..." 

Something happened to people who tried taking his necklace. "What happened ?" Yeosang made some gestures with his hands. "Huh ?" I was a bit confused as he kept repeating the gesture. "Get it now ?" I shook my head no. By the 10th time he's shown me someone interjected. "그의 보석을 훔치는 자는 결국 널빤지를 걷게 된다는 뜻이죠..." (He means that those who steal his gem end up walking the plank...) Was he lying about the gem having a magical purpose ?

Walking the plank ?! I was terrified. "Does your captain make them or ?" Yeosang shook his head again as he smiled. Which was odd given what I was just told. How could anyone smile after revealing or hearing that ? "They go overboard on their own accord. Captain' punishments would've been complete torture."

My attention was then put back on the guy who interjected.
