Chapter 8

23:18, 7 September 2023

Stacey and Randy are still in the living room watching movies. He's had a bit too much to drink and his head is leaning on Stacey's shoulder. "Stu has been gone for way too long." The blonde girl comments.

"Maybe he went to the football field to see Himbry's corpse." Randy suggested, not really interested in the topic.

"He wouldn't leave without telling me." Stacey starts fidgeting. "I should look for him." She stands up and Randy's head drops on the pillow.

"You shouldn't go alone." Randy states, worried about his friend.

Stacey looks at her drunk friend. "I'll be fine, Rand. Just stay here and finish the movie." She leaves her friend on the couch and starts making her way upstairs.

There's no one sight. Everyone left to see Principal Himbry's gutted body. Could it be a diversion to leave her alone in the house? The killer was clever. Stacey felt unsure of her next move, but continued to walk up the stairs. Suddenly, she heard a commotion coming from the hall and she saw Sidney covered in blood and running like a maniac. "Sid... what happened?"

Sidney walks to Stacey and grabs her arm, pulling her. "The killer is here..." She starts crying. "Billy is dead." The masked killer appears and tries to grab Sidney but she is able to fight him off, pushing him against the wall. "RUN!" The brunette screams and both girls open a door and lock it. The killer tries to open the door to no avail.

Stacey and Sidney realize they're in a small room and try to find a source of light. The blonde turns on a lightbulb and both girls see a door at the end of the room and a staircase that leads to the attic. "We should go out the door." Stacey suggests. Sidney nods and tries to open the door but it's locked from the outside. Stacey also tries to open in but the lock won't budge. "Shit!" The killer starts pounding on the door and the blonde grabs her friend. "We need to go to the attic."

"But we'll be trapped inside." Sidney points out.

"We can escape through the roof." Stacey explains and takes Sidney's hand, leading her upstairs to the attic.

The girls reach the attic. It's a very tight and narrow space, cluttered with boxes, old furniture and a few art collectibles. Stacey knew the Machers kept their old stuff in the attic in case they would need something. Sidney starts to walk frantically, trying to find a way out, and knocking over stuff. The brunette stumbles upon a mirror and notices she's a bloody mess. "My clothes are sticky." She comments.

"You're covered in blood." Stacey states. "There's a window over there." The blonde points to a small window that is a little too high. "Let's move these boxes so we can reach it and jump through the roof."

"Jump through the roof?" Sidney asks unsure.

"Well, it's better than getting butchered by a deranged serial killer." Stacey growls, getting annoyed by Sidney. Deep down she knows she's being too harsh but they need to find Dewey so he can alert the police.

The girls stack the boxes and are able to reach the window. "It's Gale." Sidney points out. Both girls start screaming their lungs in hopes of getting the reporter's attention but it's useless. She can't hear them. Stacey tries to open the window but it won't budge.

"We need the break the glass." Stacey says, her heart racing.

Sidney grabs an old tennis racket and swigs it. "Will this do?"

Stacey smiles and grabs the racket, smashing it against the window and breaking the glass. "We need to be careful." She climbs out the window and falls to a small balcony. "Come, Sid." She calls her friend.

Sidney climbs out the window as well but the masked killer grabs her wrists. "Stacey, he's here!" The brunette cries out as she tries to free herself from the killer. He starts to lift her back to the attic but Stacey grabs Sidney's legs and both girls fall to the ground, landing on their backs. Sidney grabs her leg and moans in pain. "Stace, are you okay?"

The blonde girl notices her arm is bleeding, the stitches burst open thanks to the fall. "I'm fine. Let's find Dewey." She lips over to Sidney and they stand up. They get to the road and see some headlights. It's Gale Weathers. The reporter tries to swerve and crashes the van into a ditch. "Oh shit!" Stacey yells. She pulls Sidney by her wrists to check on Gale. She's unconscious and full of blood, probably dead.

"Dewey's jeep." Sidney points out and the girls run to it, hoping to drive to the police station and alert the sheriff. If they get away, everything will be okay. They'll be safe.

Stacey hops in the driver's seat while Sidney gets in the passenger seat. The blonde tries to start the jeep but the keys are not on the ignition. "For fuck's sake!" Stacey yells in frustration as she slams her hands on the steering wheel.

Sidney looks at the front porch and notices someone standing there. "Stacey, look!"

Stacey throws the headlights, illuminating the front porch and she smiles as she sees Dewey there. "Dewey!" She screams joyful. The girls run towards him, but his body falls hard on the floor and they gasp as they see Ghostface standing there. "NOOOO!" Stacey screams in agony. She's tired of this damn killer always two steps ahead of her. Stacey runs back to the jeep but the killer grabs Sidney and stabs her in the chest. "SIDNEY!" The blonde cries out. She locks every single door on the jeep and stares at the killer who starts jingling something in his hands. Stacey looks harder and notices he has the keys.

...

Stacey becomes as hysterical as the figures moves closer to the jeep. He gets close to the door while Stacey tries to unlock the doors so she can escape, but Ghostface uses the lock button in the key to keep her inside the car. She stares outside, inches from the masked figure, until he disappears. Her breath hitches as she tries to hear any suspicious sound. Nothing. She's sure he's still out there trying to get her. It must be a trap. And she's right. Ghostface jingles the keys from the passenger's door and taunts her while she frantically keeps the doors locked.

Suddenly, Stacey spots the police radio and decides to use it. She grabs it and hits the switch. "Help, please! I'm at Stu Macher's house on Turner Lane. Please, he's gonna kill me!" Without any warning, she is grabbed by the killer and starts to scream. He grabs her neck and she scratches him and elbows him in the stomach, enabling her to unlock the car door and escape. She falls on the ground and then gets on her knees to keep herself from falling again. As she looks behind, the killer is gone.

Stacey crawls to the front porch where Sidney and Dewey lay. She goes to Sidney, who is bleeding profusely, and uses a piece of fabric to cover the wound. "You're going to be fine, Sid." She notices Dewey's gun on his holster and decides to take it in case the killer returns. Better safe than sorry.

"Stacey..." She hears a voice calling her name.

The blonde girls turns around and sees Randy limping as he races to her. He appears to be stone cold sober now. "Jesus, Stace. We gotta get out of here." He urges her friend.

Stacey points the gun at Randy. "Stop right there." She screams.

"Don't shoot." Randy puts his hands up. "It's me." His blue eyes seem sincere.

"Don't come any closer." Stacey warns him.

"Listen to me, Stace." Randy stares at his friend. "I found Tatum. She's dead, she's been killed..." He mumbles. "I think Stu did it."

Her heart races at the mention of her boyfriend's name. How could he blame Stu? "Don't believe him, Stace." Stacey turns around and sees Stu moving towards her. "He's lying, angel. He killed Tatum. And Billy" Stu's eyes never leave hers.

"Stay away." Stacey demands, slightly unsure.

"His movie nut mind has snapped, Stace." Stu keeps moving closer. "He's gone psycho."

Randy shakes his head. "Don't listen to him. It's him. He's the one." He points at Stu.

Stacey has no idea who to trust at this point. She aims her gun at Stu, then Randy, then Stu again. "Come on, angel. Give me the gun." Stu pleads.

"No, Stace." Randy says, scared out of his mind.

As they move forward, Stacey moves back into the house. "Fuck you both." She slams the door in their faces and locks and bolts it, hoping they'll go away. But what if they're both innocent?

Randy starts screaming outside. "NO, STACE. OPEN UP. PLEASE... HE'S GONE CRAZY!" His fists pound against the door as she leans against it, crying.

She hears the phone in the living room ringing. She picks it up, hoping someone is coming to help her. "Please! God! Help me!"

"Having fun, Stacey?" That damn voice taunts her and she screams in frustration.

Stacey throws the phone away, disconnecting the call and rushes back to the door. Randy is still screaming and she starts reconsidering her decision to leave him outside. "Go away! Leave me alone!" She screams, feeling trapped as she sobs.

A noise interrupts her thoughts and she looks at the staircase. Billy stumbles down the stairs. He's alive! "Oh God. Billy!" He's dripped in blood and Stacey rushes to his side to hold him. "Sidney said you were dead."

"I'm alright." Billy leans on her. "Gotta... get... help..." He goes for the door.

"He's out there." Stacey warns him.

Randy keeps pounding the door, screaming at the top of his lungs. ""Please, you gotta let me in." He cries. "He's gonna kill me."

Billy gets to the door and Stacey blocks him. "No! Don't believe him." She pleads.

"It's okay. Give me the gun." Billy asks and Stacey hands him the gun while Billy unlocks the door.

Randy rushes in and grabs Billy. "Help me..." He pleads.

"Shhh... It's okay." Billy tries to calm him down and Stacey looks at her friend.

"Stu's flipped out." Randy rants. "He's gone mad."

Billy looks at Randy and Stacey, a smile creeping on his face. "We all go a little mad sometimes." Stacey's green eyes widen at the sudden realization. Billy Loomis is the masked killer.
