part 1

You had walked into the big building where the party was being held, trying to push the anxious feelings away as you took your first steps onto the gradient stoned floor. Your face was clearly visible, your natural beauty capturing the eyes of everyone who was present in the large ball room. You hated how they stared at you like that— like you were a god from the heavens. You felt quite the opposite. All you wanted to do was hide in your room and not be a part of big parties such as these.

Although your parents were such rich billionaires, you were never found of being around so many people. You preferred staying inside to read a book or just simply relax while enjoying the weather but they had made it clear that this was now your lifestyle. "Y/N, my darling." Your mother had smiled as you walked up to her to give her a light hug. "You look beautiful," she said with a smile. You had smiled back at her. "You're beautiful, Mother. You take the spotlight tonight." You had complimented which made her chuckle. She reached up to fix a piece of hair that was out of place from the rest of your thick locks. "I'm sure Father will end up jealous at how eye catching you are," you had teased your mother who smiled and playfully smacked your arm. She suddenly leaned into my ear and whispered, "You really think I can make him jealous tonight?"

You nodded and laughed. "Of course you can. I'm sure by the way he keeps glancing to you, you're already starting to add fuel to the fire." You gestured to your father who was across the room but only stared at his beautiful wife whom giggled under his intense gaze. Your mother gave you a gentle pat on the back before making her way to stand next to her husband as he talked with whomever wanted to speak with him. You were left alone again, walking off to the side to attempt to be out from the eyes of the people that continuously walked into the big room. You knew that your father would send you some men for future marriage and you were growing even more tired of his attempts to do so, including tonight.

You had heard some young boys chatting and instinctively turned away when you heard one of them say your name. You sighed, wanting a big hole to just swallow you alive if that was even possible. Big parties were never your thing and you couldn't help but be forced into doing things that you weren't comfortable doing. Meeting people was never easy for you but you had to do what you had to do but luckily for you, no one had come up to you yet. "Y/N," you heard a voice call out to you. Just as you were about to sigh in frustration, you turned and saw your father with a young male at his side. "I've been looking everywhere for you."

"Really?" You asked, acting oblivious to his question. The point was for him not to find you at all. Your father nodded and gestured toward the male who stood behind him. "This is my daughter that I've told you about," your father said. You silently rolled your eyes figuring that this was one of the hundreds of men that your father wanted you to marry to. However, his words caught you off guard. "You will be guarding her at all times, is that understood?" Your father said. Your eyebrows raised in confusion. "Wait, what?" You said as you shook your head in disbelief. "What do you mean he's going to be guarding me?"

"This young fellow is from our partnering company. I figured that since your mother and I may be away for a while, this young lad would guard you to keep you safe." Your father replied with a light tone but you somewhat felt furious.

"I don't need someone to guard me. I'm perfectly fine by myself!" You tried to persuade him with your words but it had seemed your father already made up his mind. "Please Dad, I don't need someone to protect me. I don't need to be protected."

Your father completely ignored your statement as he turned to the young male who seemed torn in between you and your father. "Please don't mind her, she's not usually like this." Your father shook your head as he continued to speak, "Remind me. What's your name again?"

The young male smiled slightly before answering, "It's Taehyung, sir."

Your dad smiled and gave Taehyung a hard pat on the shoulder which almost caused him to stumble. You wanted to hide your face at how embarrassed you were, and you were strongly against your father assigning you a guard. You felt you didn't need one— you were perfectly fine on your own, you'd thought. You weren't the same little girl you'd used to be but your father was certainly treating you as if you still were. Your father walked away which left you and Taehyung alone together, an awkward silence filling up the gap between you both. You had suddenly let out a sigh that you didn't know you were keeping in.

"You okay?" Taehyung asked you but you didn't reply. You just lightly shrugged your shoulders and leaned against the counter behind you. "I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but you're just wasting your time here with me." You said as you watched him shift from the corner of your eyes. "If you wanted a job, you could've done something better than this."

Taehyung shrugged after me, somewhat copying my sassy gesture. "That's like saying you're wasting your breath on life," he chuckled. "You seemed a bit grumpy when you walked into the room. I'm guessing that these aren't your types of things."

You sighed and shook your head. "Definitely not. I'd prefer stay away from people." You saw him smile and heard him giggle slightly, almost like a baby.

"It seems like you were born into the wrong family."

You scoffed and shrugged your shoulders once more. "It appears so." After another forty to forty five minutes, you make your way back toward the front of the building. There remained a huge water foundation with flowers all around, each blooming different colors that glistened under the moonlight. As you let out a shaking breath, you brought your arms up to give yourself some warmth as the wind brushed itself against your skin making tingles run through your body. You heard footsteps come behind you which made you turn around. You sighed, feeling as if it was the hundredth time you've done so. "Why are you here, Taehyung?"

He continued to stare at you and gave you a small smile. "I should be asking you that question," he replied. His body shifted as he slipped off his blazer from his suit that he wore and placed it around and over my shoulders, a sudden wave of warmth filling you up. "Plus, your father assigned me to protect you at all times."

You rolled your eyes. "Here we go with that again..." you turned and walked over to the water fountain, slowly sitting down at the edge of the stoned fountain. As you inhaled a breath, you smelled a light scent of cologne from Taehyung's blazer— or maybe it was his natural scent. It took you everything in you not to bring the blazer up to your nose to inhale the sweet smell all over again. "Did you sign up for this?" You asked Taehyung who stood where he was previously, now about a couple feet away instead of two feet away. Taehyung shrugged his shoulders. "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't." He slowly began to walk toward you. However, as he walked closer, you scrunched your eyebrows to him.

"Are you just trying to avoid every question I have?" You asked and Taehyung smiled, nodding his head that you had finally figured it out.

"The princess has finally realized the point," he teased but you only cringed at the nickname. "Your father instructed not to give any information about my being. My job is a secret and you just have to accept the fact that I'm here to protect you from anything and everything," he spoke. "What are you even protecting me from? I don't need the protection." You fought back and stood up to face away from him, staring up at the night sky. The stars were twinkling over both of us and the moon shined as bright as the sun would.

"Everyone needs someone to protect them," Taehyung said. "It can be from someone else or from ourselves, but we all need someone to give us comfort and protection."

You turned to stare at him but he was already standing next to you, staring up at the same sky as you were. He seemed mesmerized by the shining stars until he turned his head to gaze at you. He gave you a smile which seemed to be brighter than the moon and the stars. Suddenly, your lonely night felt a little less lonely.
