24. Caramel Brown Hair
00:28, 10 January 2014Abby's POV:
By the time the game had ended, me and Klaus were on good-ish terms. Sort of. And I had no idea where Caroline was.
As soon as I had arrived here she had fled, and the smirking Mikaelson had later informed that she was still on the cheer squad. Huh. I didn't even notice. I guess I liked to watch the game, instead of the raunchy support.
Trust Klaus to take notice of Caroline wearing an extremely revealing minidress. I knew that Elena used to be on the team. I think when she met the Salvatores, she just kind of, dropped it.
It must've be hard for her, being the human while the two brothers that lusted for her, and one of her best friends, were vampires. Plus, Bonnie's a witch. Her best friend.
I was broken out of my thoughts by Stefan running up through the stands, Elena trailing behind him. He looked excited about the win, but I could tell he had played football too many times over. Elena just looked extremely bored.
I smiled at him and he flicked another glance over to Klaus and back.
"Hey Stefano. Nice game."
He shrugged, making his muscles tighten, and gave a modest grin. The Gilbert girl grabbed him tightly, as if owning him. I knew they were together, he was my best friend. It's not like I was going to make a move.
Deciding I liked the old human Elena better, I resumed the conversation. "So. Why are you up here to talk to me?"
Klaus butted in, peering through the side. "He came up to see if you knew where his broth-a was."
Stefan scowled at the original, but looked slightly surprised. "How do you know?"
The Mikaelson gazed down the stands and onto the vacant field. "You're not going to like my answer."

Elijah's POV:
I had been sitting, reading through old notebooks for the past hour, wondering about Abby and how she was, when I heard a commotion in the entrance hall. Flicking my head up to tune into the sound, Stefan's voice could clearly be heard, as well as Abby's.
Deciding to greet my girlfriend, I zipped into the room, only to find their faces full of sorrow. Spread across the table, was a man. I couldn't see his face, but as the leather jacket came into sight, I knew exactly who it was.
Abby looked up to see me, then zipped over, burying her head into my chest, I rubbed her hair, and comforted her, while looking upon the disheveled body of Damon Salvatore.
Klaus looked conflicted. His face showed anger, and a lot of it, but also smugness in a way. I knew it was only a matter of time until Stefan attacked back at Klaus for what his hybrids did to his brother.
Well, I assumed it was the hybrids, from the vicious gash displayed in Damon's shoulder. He also had deep claw marks in his chest, and I doubted whether even I could withstand and live from that.
I eyeballed my brother, signalling for him to get out of here, just as Abby looked up into my eyes.
"We brought him here .. Because it was the closest place we could take him.. I'm s-sorry Lijah."
I shook my head as she started bawling into me again. There had been a lot of crying from her lately. This surprised me, as when I first met her, she was strong, confident, with her own willpower.
I was slowly coming to the realisation that meeting me had changed her, and I HAD to find a way to make her happy again.
Leaning down, I whispered in her ear. "It's okay, why wouldn't I be fine with it? Damon was a good man."
A gust of air swished past my face as Klaus suddenly decided to leave the house, obviously taking my advice. I knew that Elena's vampire emotions weren't very stable at the moment either. She would probably attack him, and end up getting hurt herself.
I carried on comforting Abby. "I will talk to Klaus. I'll straighten things out. You need time to grieve my dear, and I will give you that."
Pressing my lips to her forehead, I stepped away from the group, then whipped on a jacket and followed right after my brother.
He had settled to look around in the forest, just as I had expected. I knew that ordering his hybrids to kill Damon was not something he wanted to do. At the moment, earning the respect of Caroline and Abby was all that was on his mind.
Reaching out to him, I placed a single hand on Niklaus's shoulder, and he slowly turned to face me, a puzzled look clearly displayed.
"They aren't sired to me anymore brother."
He muttered this, as if in disbelief. My eyebrows raised, and he slowly carried on.
"They are turning at will, and ravaging the town however they like. They're TURNING AT WILL ELIJAH. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS."
His voice slowly lead up to a fierce shout, and his face turned into pure rage, rage at himself, and rage at his minions. Shaking my head, I stepped back, giving him room to let out his anger.
"This isn't good. We have to do something. We have to fix this."
Hard to admit, I was getting quite wound up myself. If these hybrids were changing into wolves at will, and rampaging this town whenever they wanted, I could see Mystic Falls slowly twisting out of our grasp. Just like New Orleans.
And I knew Klaus could see this too. He stomped around the leaves, the slight patter of rain sprinkling through his caramel brown hair.
"Yes. And I WILL stop this."
He stopped, turning to look me straight in the eye. "Mark my words Elijah. This town will be ours once again. Our family will be happy. We will not be ruined by something that I created."
And with that, he fled away, in the other direction, maybe to another one of his houses or sources. And I had no choice but to go back and face the grieving vampires, that were all blaming my brother for the death of Damon Salvatore.
To be completely honest, I was slightly afraid.

Elena's POV:
The anger inside me was boiling up, and I was afraid that soon, like a kettle, I would burst. The only thing that kept me going was Stefan's face. His face, full of hurt, sorrow, sadness at his brother's death. At Damon's death.
Damon. So loving. In one short year he had turned from a selfish blood-lusting dick, to a kind, caring man, who put everybody before himself.
And Klaus was the one who had ended this life. He was responsible. And although I knew he was insanely strong; I wanted to fight him. And I wanted to kill him. But I couldn't, for he was responsible for their whole bloodline.
But I had to do something. Even a chance to restrain him for a thousand years as done before.
Even if that meant killing the whole Mikaelson family in the process, even if it meant killing Abby as well. Which I knew Stefan would never condone. But he wasn't in the right space of mind to condone anything at the moment.
After a painful ten minutes of watching him lie on the ground next to his brother's corpse, me and Abby decided to bring them home.
All it took was a simple nod, and a certain type of look, for me to know that she thought the Salvatore Boarding House was the best option.
The trip only took a minute, and we laid both the Salvatore brothers on couches opposite each other, in front of the warm fireplace. Stefan soon fell asleep, tears dripping down his face, as I ran my hands through his hair, lulling him to rest.
Abby was in the other room, grabbing a drink of blood and bourbon for each of us, and I really needed it.
As she came back into sight, her innocent face made me turn red with rage, and I had to remind myself that all my emotions were still heightened, and if Damon were here, he wouldn't have wanted us to fight.
She passed the glass over to me with a small smile, then leant back into her armchair. I knew what she was thinking. Abby was wondering all about where her precious Mikaelson brothers were, and how they were dealing with this small inconvenience. I bet right now they were out drinking as well, congratulating eachother on a Damon-free life.
Voicing my thoughts, I stood up and glared across the room. "Why don't you just kill the other brother right now, and get it over with."
She looked shocked, but almost amused at my outburst, and stood up with a stance to match mine.
"Have you ever maybe thought that I knew them before you did? And I knew them A LOT better than you did."
I narrowed my eyes, but kept staring daggers into the Stephenson girl. "Perhaps, but it's your boyfriend and your 'friend with benefits' that helped along with killing him."
She let the words sink in, and I realised maybe I shouldn't have been so harsh. I could see a rant coming on. Abby stepped forward closer, so she was directly in my face.
"Maybe you should think and process through that little head of yours before you speak. One, Klaus is NOT my 'friend with benefits' or whatever you like to call it. In fact, I hate him just as much as you do, maybe even more. And Elijah, is the most caring person I have ever met. He has saved Damon's life multiple times, he has no reason to end it."
I opened my mouth to butt in, but she silenced me with a single hand gesture. "Secondly, it REALLY pisses me off that you look so much like that one woman who killed my brother. My innocent brother. And your attitude is becoming more and more like Katherine Petrova, so I suggest you go back to being the old Elena, who had good reasoning and emotions, before I completely lose the plot."
With this, she stormed away. I heard her open the door, and bang into someone, before rushing out past them. Elijah's voice shouted out her name, and she muttered something to him before leaving the property.
He waltzed into the room, taking in the scene of the two brothers, so peaceful lying next to eachother.
Looking up at me, he put on a blank face. "Abby seems to think you blame this all on her, and us."
Nodding slightly, I moved over to grab my glass of bourbon. He carried on.
"Well before I leave and give all of you some space, I would like you to know that only one of those hybrids is still syred to Klaus. And that one hybrid was the one that alerted him about the news of Damon, effectively saving his body from being ripped apart. So I think you should drop the matter and focus on giving Stefan the care and love that he needs. Good day."
He nodded, straightened up his dres jacket, and rushed out the door after his girlfriend.
As the news sunk into my mind, I smashed the glass into a wall, splattering the dark liquid everywhere. Hybrids running free all over town. What had Mystic Falls become.
I knew what Damon would say right now if he were here. He would just say "More hybrids, more fun." Or something sarcastic like that.
A single tear dripped down my cheek as I stole a look over to the Salvatores. Probably their last moments together, dead or alive.
