~ Melting, Maybe?

As soon as I was done with that one meeting, in the late afternoon, I made my way back home, ever since I got Haneul's text in the afternoon, about Eva being sick, I was restless. I couldn't focus on anything.

When I punched in the passcode and went inside, I was met with Haneul working with Eva, sleeping on her one shoulder. I went towards them, with a frown. "Why are you not putting her in bed?" I asked, quietly making sure Eva's sleep is not disturbed. "She is not letting go..." She said looking up at me, pointing at her small fists clenching her t-shirt's fabric on her back and neck. 'Was my little princess always this clingy? Or is it just with Haneul? But just in a couple of months?' I thought and sat down on the single chair couch.

"I called the doctor, and she said it's not anything serious just because of the climate change." She informed me, pulling me out of my thoughts, I sighed in relief. "Did you have lunch?" She asked, looking at me. I nodded, I did eat some ramen with Seungcheol hyung. But wait if she didn't cook anything then what did she eat for lunch? I looked at her. She was typing away in her laptop.

"What about you?" "I didn't have any appetite. But I did make some porridge for her and she ate it before sleeping, and took medicines as well." She said, I looked at her in disbelief.

She didn't look at me, "Oh btw, before you freshen up just heat up her porridge, she will wake up in some time, or maybe after you are done with freshening up." She added, looking up at me. "When did she sleep?" I asked, knowing that she wouldn't wake up so early. She glanced at the clock. "She slept around, two in the afternoon. So it's been, probably three hours." I looked at my wrist watch as well, it was almost seven. I nodded and walked towards the kitchen, putting up the timer or rice cooker to heat up and quickly disappear into our bedroom.

Then I got back, downstairs going into the kitchen turning off the rice cooker. 'Should I ask if she was atleast gonna eat some ramen? I mean she hasn't eaten the whole day, except for the breakfast we had.' I contemplated, I glanced at her, still sitting in the same position with Eva in her arms, tirelessly. I sighed, 'What should I do?' I walked towards her.

I cleared my throat softly getting her attention. She looked up, with her confused gaze. "Do you need something, to eat? I mean I can't cook well, but ramen?" I asked, hesitantly looking everywhere but her.

"No, I'm alright, can you just maybe make some coffee, if you could, I need it." She said, I nodded and walked back in the kitchen. I could drink some as well. And making coffee wasn't a big deal right? But how do we use this coffee machine?

"Do you know how to use it?" Haneul's voice, caused me to flinch slightly. But I quickly composed myself. "Let me show you." She said and walked towards me, taking the coffee beans, she put them in coffee grinder then, "Can you hold it? I'll press it" She asked, i stepped closer to her, and held the handle while she pressed the coffee down then, she did next steps so effortlessly even with our little princess sleeping in her arms. How? I looked at her zoning out, 'til she waved her hand bringing me back to reality.

When I poured it into two cups and we both went back in the living room. I could feel myself the walls I had built around my heart were melting slowly by the selfless love and affection she was giving to Eva, i mean Eva is more clinger to Haneul than me, who was with her since birth.

We settled down on our previous spots and she took a sip of her coffee, closing her eyes with a sigh, she must be tired. I took mine as well. "I'll order something for the dinner." I said, assuming she was tired and couldn't tell if Eva would let her go. "Wait 'til she is awake if she wouldn't let me go then order, but her fever has went down." She stopped me, was she still gonna make dinner? Damn she is something else.

Eva stirred around slightly, in her arms, nuzzling more into her neck. "Princess? You okay now?" Haneul asked softly, keeping the coffee mug back on the table only after a couple of sips, and now she was caressing Eva's back. "Mumma..." The little one, muttered. "Yes, baby? Mumma is here only." I looked at them with a small soft smile tugging up at the corner of my lips.

Eva looked so cute, rubbing her eyes sleepily with her small fists. Now Haneul had Eva leaning on her chest. She still wouldn't let go of Haneul's tshirt.

"Dadda?..." Eva muttered again. Haneul looked at me gesturing me to go to them, I quickly went to sat beside, Haneul's other side. Placing my hand on Eva's forehead checking her temprature, it was pretty normal now. "Yes princess, Dadda is here as well. But is my princess feeling well now?" I asked, softly. "mhmm... Good.. a little tired..." She replied groggily, still a little feverish.

"Is our princess, hungry now?" Haneul asked, I looked at her, how easily she always calls Eva as hers, and mine. Even though she is not her birth mother.

Eva pouted and nodded. Causing us both to smile at her cuteness. "Then can Mumma put you down?" Haneul asked, earning whine and more clinginess. "Eva. She has been holding you the whole time you were sleeping don't be-" "It's okay, she is just a kid, and she seeks comfort." Haneul cut my sentence short. I sighed, feeling a little guilty about it I had judge her too soon just on the basis of my past.

I followed them both to the kitchen, then I atleast helped her to pour the porridge in the bowl and went back to the living room with it. Haneul and I fed her together which looks like made our little girl so happy that she was giggling the whole time.

Then I washed, a couple of bowls which were in the sink, probably because she was busy taking care of Eva. "I'll cook meal kit, if that's okay?" Haneul asked, Eva was still in her arms, reluctant to let her go. I nodded, not really minding what I would eat.

Then we ate and after I cleaned up we went to sleep, giving medicines to Eva, and she was literally glued to Haneul, like I was her Dad as well, I felt a little bit envious of Haneul. Even sleeping in the bed, she literally buried her face in Haneul's chest. While Haneul patted her back getting her to sleep.

I watched them both, looking so calm and contented. Who would say Haneul is not Eva's real mother. While thinking about the way I was thinking about Haneul was maybe wrong. I let my fatigue from the day took over, and my eye lids fell shut..
