Chapter 1
21:02, 29 July 2024It was late summer when Jimin and Yoongi met at a Catholic school.
Yoongi's parents were very kind, nice, and religious, traits he did not inherit. Sure, he was famous and intelligent, but he wasn't into those things. He believed more in the Big Bang theory-how one tiny dot expanded, and here we are, all alive.
But he was in a Catholic school. How ironic, isn't it? Why was he here when he could go to a prestigious academy? It would be a good chance to be accepted into his dream university if he at least got into a good school. But no, he had to enter this school-a school with lots of praying, discipline, and boredom.
He couldn't complain, especially when it was his only choice. He got kicked out of the prestigious academy that was only 10-20 minutes away from the school he was now attending. But why did he get kicked out?
Let's just say he was caught smoking on the rooftop during class hours. Oh, was he unlucky that the principal happened to be inspecting something at that exact place. Then there he was, caught red-handed.
Smoking was really his thing, especially when he was stressed: academics, family, having no friends, everything. That one tiny stick made him feel alive but at the same time was killing him.
"You can introduce yourself now, Yoongi," the teacher said with enthusiasm echoing around the classroom.
"Hello, my name is Min Yoongi. But you can call me Yoongi instead. I'm 19 years old," he said shyly, rocking his heels back and forth involuntarily.
"You can go sit there!" the teacher said with excitement.
Of course, she was excited there was a new student in their school. The school was going bankrupt since someone had stolen 1 million dollars from their fund. They could only afford exactly six classrooms, from Grade 7 to Grade 12. Since there were limited classrooms, the ordinary students and the seminarians had to stay in one classroom. Though it wasn't a big deal since they had the same syllabus.
"Now, since it's our first day today, I would like you all to meet our seminarians who will be joining our class until your last semester! Isn't that exciting? Guys! Come in! You're going to have to lead the prayer before we proceed to the lesson."
Suddenly, a group of men entered the classroom. Some hid their squeals and whispers of "OMG," especially since the group of men were very handsome. There were 15 of them, and they were exquisite.
Yoongi eyed them one by one until the last seminarian entered.
"What the fuck?" he muttered under his breath and almost jumped when he heard a voice to his right.
"I know, right? Hehe..." a girl snickered, almost whispering since she was afraid the teacher would scold her for being noisy.
"And you are?" Yoongi asked, confusion written on his face.
"My name's Jennie! Nice to meet you, Yoongi!" she whisper-yelled. Yoongi could only smile in return as he again eyed the group of men standing before them.
"Hello! Since we have limited classrooms in the school, unfortunately, we have to merge into one section! But don't worry, the quality of education here is just like other prestigious schools you know. My name is Kim Namjoon, the president of the student council, and we're going to lead a prayer as our way to feel our loving God before we indulge in any knowledge in our brain," the tall man said with professionalism. Yoongi could only wince and scoff when he heard the word "God." He thought it was funny to even believe in Him.
The man who had entered last earlier took one step forward.
"May we all stand." His voice was dark but at the same time light and gentle.
They all stood up and bowed their heads, which Yoongi followed since he was not familiar with the whole setup."In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen."
Yoongi could only watch the other students make the sign of the cross since he was, again, not familiar with it. Sure, his parents were very religious, but they did not force him to go to church with them. As a result, he did not know anything about their religion or their church.
The prayer was done, and each of them chose their seats, but the chair to his left was still empty. Yoongi almost prayed to the heavens to not let anyone occupy the vacant seat. He was shy to interact, but of course, he didn't have any choice, you know?
Soon, he heard the chair let out a thud, indicating that it was occupied by someone. He took a glance using his peripheral vision. It was the boy who entered last and who led the prayer.
Why does it have to be him?
---
Yoongi tried to focus on the lesson, but his mind kept drifting to the boy beside him. He could feel his presence, almost like an aura of calm and mystery. He sneaked a glance at him, noticing his sharp features and the quiet intensity in his eyes.
"Hey," he whispered, catching Yoongi off guard.
"Uh, hi," Yoongi responded, his voice barely audible.
"I'm Jimin," he said with a small smile, his eyes locking onto Yoongi's.
"Yoongi," he replied, trying to keep his composure.
"First day here?" he asked, his tone friendly but with a hint of curiosity.
"Yeah," Yoongi nodded. "You?"
"I've been here for a while," Jimin said, his smile widening slightly. "It's not as bad as it seems. You get used to it."
Yoongi wasn't sure if he wanted to get used to it, but he appreciated Jimin's attempt to make him feel better. He nodded again, hoping the conversation would end there. But Jimin had other plans.
"Why did you transfer?" he asked, his eyes still on Yoongi.
He hesitated, not wanting to share his reasons with a stranger. "It's a long story."
"I've got time," Jimin said, his smile never wavering.
Yoongi sighed. "Let's just say I didn't fit in at my old school."
Jimin nodded, as if he understood more than Yoongi had said. "Well, I hope you find a place here."
Yoongi offered a weak smile in return, feeling a strange sense of comfort in Jimin's words. Maybe, just maybe, this place wouldn't be so bad after all, or at least that's what he thought.
