Chapter 7
07:52, 2 August 2013Chapter 7:
It was midnight after I got out of the shower. Kendall must've given up and went home. I looked out the peep hole before opening the door to check. I reckoned the door and charged my phone which had three missed called and five texts from Kendall. Scott had awaken as I had settled into bed. "Bobby?" He asked sleepily.
"Yeah?" I asked looking up at the ceiling.
"I'm sorry." He whispered obviously sincere.
"It's okay Scott." I whispered back breathlessly.
"Did you have a nice time tonight? Did you go out?" He asked. I sighed.
"Kendall and I went to the beach. Won't happen again. We had a nice time though, yes." I told Scott. He knew why I wouldn't let it happen again. He's been there many times but he didn't know what all happened with Kendall, how this time it was different. It was different because I let Kendall get behind the wall I had built many years ago when I witnessed my mom getting beat by her boyfriend who acted like he'd never hurt her. The only person I let in was Scott and even then I made him be only a friend.
"You should put your guard down a bit." Scott informed me moving around in his bed. I sighed and rolled over to see he was on the edge of his bed facing me. "You should really give this guy a chance." He whispered smiling at me. Scott was fair skinned, muscular, handsome, brown eyed, brunette, and a sweetheart when he was in his right mind state. He had been the popular guy in high school who hung out with the high school rebel girl who did things her way, also known as me. "Like always, Scott you're always there for me, but I can't let people in easily. You know how hard you worked in order just to be my friend, not boyfriend." I told him. He shrugged. "Well, maybe if you let him in as a friend, he'd be worthy enough for you to feel like you could let him in, and then maybe it'd be easier then to let him in as a more than friend." Scott said. I sighed and smiled.
"Go back to bed Dr. Phil." I laughed. I rolled over and was soon fast asleep. I woke up to a closing of our hotel door and talking outside. I sat up and felt my hair in a mess from being wet when I had went to be. I stood up and went over to the door and pressed my ear to it.
"I don't know what I did wrong." I heard Kendall's voice. Great. Scott sighed and leaned on the door probably knowing I would be listening.
"She has issues with guys. It took me three years in high school for her to accept me into her life into the freaking Great Wall of China she had built around her emotions. Don't worry, if you don't rush things, they usually work out on their own at her pace. She's a great girl and worth the trouble." Scott said, I could picture him smiling.
"Why does she have issues with guys?" Kendall asked. Scott sighed.
"Her mom was beaten to death by a boyfriend of her moms. She saw it all Senior year." Scott mumbled trying to be quiet, but I heard it word for word. Memories of that day had now drifted back to my mind, but I forcefully pushed them away and continued to listen.
"Oh my God. Poor Bobby." Kendall mumbled back. I then opened door grabbing my room key and crossed my arms over my chest. I pushed past Scott and looked at Kendall.
"So now you know. Thanks to Scott." I said sarcastically as Scott gave an apologetic look. "Now, don't give me your pity. I'm fine. I don't need anyone's empathy, all I need is real friends. You're the only person here who knows who's still alive besides Scott." I said to Kendall. He looked surprised.
"Alive?" He asked.
"My grandparents, my mom, her boyfriend, all dead. Gone. I have no one. Now, you either are my friend or nothing." I whispered to him. He nodded and looked like he wanted to ask a question. I waited as he asked what I suspected.
"Bobby, why did you run away last night? Did I do something wrong?" He asked pleading with his eyes. I sighed and walked back to the room door and turned to look at him.
"You got too close. We went too fast." Was all I said before I went into the room and shut the door on the two boys outside.
I went to the restroom and got dressed, I knew Scott would side with Kendall and let him in. I fish tail braided my hair, put on my usual dark makeup, and pulled on the black shorts, combat boots, and black long sleeved shirt that wasn't too clingy on my skin. I felt irritable so it was fitting that nothing was too clingy. I walked out of the bathroom seeing what I expected, Kendall and Scott. Kendall had a drink in his hand I didn't remembering him having. I felt their eyes on me as I looked at myself in the full length mirror on the door. They started whispering and I knew it was about my outfit. They snickered as I turned to look at them. "Excuse me?" I asked annoyed by both of them. I walked over and grabbed my big bag and looked at them as I put on my Audrey Hepburn style sunglasses. "We going to meet your friends or not?" I asked Kendall. He nodded and stood up. Scott stayed sitting. "Come on you're going too aren't you?" I asked him. He shook his head and waved it off.
"I'm going surfing. She loves surfing at Venice beach." He said talking about his non creepy crush actress. I giggled and held up a thumbs up. Kendall and I walked out into the hall in an awkward silence. We stood in the elevator with an older couple whom were there last night when Kendall and I kissed.
"Hey! It's the get a room couple!" The older guy said. Kendall and I laughed and nodded. "Looks like you two got lucky last night." He smiled. His wife smacked his chest as he said those words.
"Excuse me?" Kendall started to say. I shook my head not believing that guy would say such a thing.
"Sir, just because you had erotic dreams last night about two younger people whom you witnessed kissing on the boardwalk doesn't give you the right to speak in such a manner in front of your wife or another female such as myself." I told him as the doors opened. He looked at me shocked as did Kendall and his wife. I walked out of the elevator as I was followed by Kendall.
"How do you come up with all those things to say?" Kendall asked me as we walked out into the breezy air of California. He had a smile on his face as I smiled at him. I chuckled and shrugged.
"It comes natural my dear." We walked to his car that he opened the passenger side door open for me. I climbed in and at down. We were soon on our way to wherever I was meeting his friends.
"You're really tough for a little girl ya know that?" Kendall asked me. I giggled looking down at me. I wasn't very small, but I was shorter than him so I guess that counted as little.
"Well, when you have to defend yourself you learn pretty quick it's fight or die." I told him. He pulled into a Starbucks drive thru looking at me. I started to dig in my purse for my wallet when I heard, "whoa whoa whoa... No it's okay. You're my friend. Friends buy each other Starbucks where you come from right?" He asked smirking. I rolled my eyes and gave him my order. He drove forward to the window after shouting out our order. We sat for ten minutes quietly when I finally got bored of the sad song on the radio. I started changing stations and figured if he was famous he'd have his own music on the radio right?
"What do you sing? Pop? Rock?" I asked. He looked at me after handing the lady his money. He looked back at me handing me my double chocolate chip coffee free frappé. We waited a few minutes more for his own drink.
"Uh, we're like pop I guess you could say. But we mixed in a little hip hop on our last album which should come out next year in June. I nodded.
"Have any of your music?" I asked him. He nodded to the glove box where there was only one CD with three of the guys from the beach on it along with Kendall. It was shiny and new, and didn't look like it had been opened very much. I opened it and saw a bright orange and yellow CD. "Can we listen to it?" I asked him. He smirked grabbing his drink and driving away from Starbucks. He set his coffee down and grabbed the CD sticking it into his cars radio.
