Chapter 22
00:07, 16 June 2021Sage grinned at her best friend once she opened her door, the blonde stood there holding up a bottle of wine and a pint of ice cream causing Lydia to giggle. The strawberry blonde was already sleepover ready, once she got home she quickly showered and got into a nightgown and fluffy robe waiting on her best friend and she was glad to see she wasn't abandoned.
The girls spent all night giggling at one another, Sage would never admit it but she also shed a few tears as they watched the notebook for the hundredth time, but what she really enjoyed was how Lydia had a smile on her face the whole night.
"So when were you going to tell me?" Sage snapped her head towards her friend who was currently painting her toes, her heart sped up a little not knowing what the Martin girl was talking about but there was no way she could be talking about her right? About the supernatural?
"Tell you what?" Lydia raised her eyebrows at her friend waiting for her to admit it but when the blonde continued to stare at the girl she let out a huff.
"I mean, when were you gonna tell me about you and Stiles!" Sage sighed out a sigh of relief but she also couldn't hide the slight pink that appeared on her cheeks, "There is no me and Stiles."
"Liar. Come on there hasn't even been any flirting, not even a little kiss?" Sage didn't answer her best friend which was enough for the strawberry blonde, Lydia let out a gasp slightly shoving her friend who couldn't stop blushing.
It was so unlike Sage, she had past flings and one past relationship but she had never been this shy or excited about a boy. It was new and refreshing and she guessed it mainly had to be due to the lovers bond she had with the human.
"There is no way you and Stiles kissed and you did not tell me about it."
"Okay it was one kiss, it happened at the dance and we haven't even spoken about it." Lydia frowned at the girl, "Why not?"
Sage shrugged, "I don't know, I know how nervous the boy is- I didn't wanna make him any more nervous by bringing it up. But I guess a part of me didn't wanna bring it up because of what it would mean."
"What do you mean?" Sage blew out a breath not looking at her friend, she hated to admit it but she was scared that Stiles forgot about the kiss or maybe it didn't mean anything to him, and she didn't want to look stupid by bringing it up. Lydia caught on to her friend's silence, sending her a small smile as she pulled her into a hug.
"I don't know the boy all that well but I know the face of a love-struck teenager. He looks at you how Scott looks at Allison. He looks at you how Jackson used to look at me. And I don't know if I'm just saying this because your my best friend and I'm being biased but I have a feeling that the love you guys will have will be stronger than anything."
Sage's heart warmed from Lydia's speech, she knew that she was right on the way to loving the Stlinski boy and she knew no matter how much she tried to tell herself, she knew that the boy already loved her. It was just a matter of time of them expressing their feelings to one another.

As soon as Sage walked into school the strong stench of dog overwhelmed her senses, she scrunched up her face as she walked into chemistry- the blonde looked around but she couldn't pinpoint where the smell was coming from, more like who it was coming from.
She sent her best friend a smile as she sat down next to her but her eyebrows furrowed when she noticed how Scott and Stiles stumbled into the class in a frantic hurry, her eyes quickly moved over only to notice that Isaac and Erica who were both dressed in leather.
Sage watched the two werewolves who eyed her best friend with dark smirks, she sent them both a glare unaware of their plan but was still very much protective over her strawberry blonde.
Stiles and Scott quickly got into the two seats right behind the girls, Sage turned around giving the Stilinski boy a confusing look, he quickly gestured to his phone signalling the girl that he would text her.
The blonde subtly ignored Mr Harris as he started blabbering about the experiment they were going to do.
Derek thinks Lydia is the kanima, he sent Erica and Isaac to test her. They've already tested Jackson, it's her next.
Sage almost crushed her phone in her hand, she knew if the fur balls put one paw on Lydia she would kill them. And if that meant killing Derek too then so be it. Lydia looked at her best friend feeling the slight rage coming off her, heck anyone would be able to feel her rage but Lydia knew there was something up with her guardian.
She gently put her hand on her friend's leg causing the vampire to relax slightly, she looked over to her best friend who just stared at her with soft eyes.
"Einstein once said, "Two things are infinite: The universe and human stupidity; And I'm not sure about the universe." I myself have encountered infinite stupidity." He patted Stiles on the shoulder, causing the vampire to shoot the man a glare—she knew she would have to do something about that soon. "So to combat the plague of ignorance in my class, you're going to combine efforts through a round of group experiments. Let's see if two heads are indeed better than one. Or in Mr Stilinski's case, less than one—" Really soon, "—Erica, you take the first station, you'll start with -"
He paused seeing the majority of the male students raising their hands with eager looks on their faces. "I didn't ask for volunteers, put your hormonal little hands down. Start with Mr McCall. Alright, next two."
Sage turned to her strawberry blonde friend who immediately started the experiment, "Don't talk to Erica or Isaac okay?" Lydia stared at the blonde with a questioning stare but nevertheless nodded her head. She trusted the blonde more than anything and if she said not to talk to Erica and Isaac, then she wouldn't.
Sage sat down next to Stiles after she had drug Allison and perched her next to Lydia. The blonde vampire glanced over to the blonde werewolf who was taunting Scott with her flirty looks and gestures. Sage could smell the slight jealously coming off the Argent girl but she knew they'd but fine.
Even though Sage never said it out loud- the forbidden romance was cute.
"You know Scott won't let anything happen to her right?" Sage looked over to the buzz-cut human who looked at her with a soft look as he started the experiment.
"I don't need Scott's help protecting her Stiles. I'm her guardian, it's my duty to protect her and getting help from someone shows that I'm not capable of doing my job." Sage admitted as she continued to watch Lydia as she continued on with the experiment.
She knew what Stiles was thinking and of course she knew what he said was true but she didn't want to fail as the girl's guardian again. She already did once, and she didn't want to again.
"You know, asking for help doesn't make you weak or any less of our guardians Sage. You're the strongest person I know and a little help can go a long way." Sage felt her stomach drop slightly from hearing how the boy referred to her as his guardian, the vampire knew she had to tell the boy the truth and soon.
"And switch."
Sage practically bolted out of her seat when she had the chance, she quickly walked over to the next station trying to ignore the slight pang of sadness that wafted through her bond. She didn't have time to feel guilty because her face scrunched up in disgust when she saw who had sat next to her.
"You know, I don't know much about vampires, but I got to say. You are really pretty, and since that night at the station- I haven't been able to get you out of my head."
Sage ignored his comment as she began pouring random liquids into the beaker, "Maybe it's because you know if you touch one hair on her strawberry blonde head I will rip out your heart, grind it into dust- then a diamond and give it to her for her 17th birthday." She muttered in a threatening tone.
Isaac smirked at her threat, his blue eyes flickering over to Stiles who was eyeing him with an annoyed look. "Really? I've never actually been to one of her big, invite-only birthday parties." He paused, eyeing her up and down. "I did ask her out once though—"
"And she turned you down, your not her type so I can see why." Sage smiled a faux innocent smile at the werewolf, she knew he was trying to act tough but she could smell the ever so slight smell of fear coming off him.
"—Told me to come back when the bike I rode to school had an engine, not a chain."
Sage raised a brow. "And now you're trying to kill her because she broke your little werewolf heart?" She scoffed.
"Well yeah."
Sage turned to the werewolf, her face a little close to his- his eyes momentarily flickered down to her lips before his blue eyes met hers. "But like I said Isaac, you even breathe within her radius.... I'm riping that little broken werewolf heart right out of your chest before you can say woof."
"And switch."

As soon as chemistry let out, Sage had dragged Lydia off to the library. She knew Scott and the others had bailed somewhere to talk about a plan about protecting the strawberry blonde since she failed the little test the two werewolves had given her. They somehow had managed to get her to eat kanima venom and nothing happened to her.
It perplexed the vampire very much so but she knew ever since Lydia was bitten she had changed, but Sage knew that it wasn't into the monstrous man-snake known as the kanima.
Yes Sage could feel that the strawberry blonde had changed through their bond but she was 100% certain Lydia Martin was not the kanima.
"What are we doing in the library, since I've known you I haven't seen you lift up a book in this place."
"That's because most of this shit is historically incorrect." The blonde muttered earning a confused look off her friend.
"Right, so what are we studying for?" Lydia asked as she took out some of her books, Sage's eye caught a particular notebook that the girl had brought out.
"Lyds?"
"Hmm..."
"Is that mine?" Sage had grown a little confused as to why her best friend had her notebook, she hadn't even noticed it was missing in the first place.
"Oh yeah, you left it at mine last night. Forgot to give it to you this morning, by the way- killer drawings."
"W-what drawings?" Sage's eyebrows furrowed as the strawberry blonde began to flicker through the pages, there were pages and pages of little drawings and Sage could not remember drawing a single one of them.
"I-I don't remember drawing these." Sage could barely hear herself think right now, her heartbeat was loud in her ears as her eyes widened at the pages of drawings that she supposedly drew. Lydia could see the slight horror on her guardians face so she did the only thing that came naturally to her.
She comforted her.
The strawberry blonde never knew why it came so naturally for her- maybe it was because she was her best friend, the first real person to care about her. But the girl didn't care, she just knew that as soon as her comforting eyes met Sage's- everything would be okay.
Sage could feel herself breath again once Lydia had calmed her down and the drawings were soon pushed to the back of her mind when she saw Stiles frantically burst through the library doors.
"Sage-Lydia, hi- uh yeah hi. Wanna have a study session today— I mean, you guys are already here so- that's what your doing—studying... right?" Sage stared wide-eyed at the boy who had just spluttered out a whole bag of nonsense and judging by the look on Lydia's first- she wasn't the only one who thought so.
"What?"
"We're going to Scott's house to study. You know, it's always great to stick together in these situations." Stiles said to the blonde, slightly hinting to her about what was going down. She sighed as she understood what the boy was trying to get at.
"Come on Lyds, I'm sick of staying in school anyway."
Stiles grinned at the girls. "Great." He then began tugging on Lydia and Sage to follow him out of the library and they soon met up with Allison and Jackson causing the strawberry blonde to stare at the jock with a longing gaze.
"Wait, why didn't we just stay in the library if there's so many of us?" Lydia questioned innocently, still unaware of the reasons behind their study group.
"Because we're meeting up with Scott at his house," Stiles said.
"Hmm, well, why doesn't Scott just meet us in the library?"
Stiles sent Sage a look that said that he was starting to get annoyed by Lydia's questions and she only responded by shrugging her shoulders, hiding the small smirk that appeared on her face. He sighed. "Oh, that would've been a great idea. Too late."
"Okay, hold on —"
Jackson huffed in annoyance before grabbing his ex-girlfriend by the arm. "Lydia, shut up and walk."
Sage narrowed her eyes at him, watching as he practically dragged Lydia with him but the strawberry blonde didn't seem to be putting up a fight as she let him drag her. "If she still didn't love him, you know that I would have already ripped his heart out right?" She grumbled with narrowed as she watched the ex-couple.
Stiles laughed nervously at the girl before opening the driver side of his jeep."Yeah, I believe you."
