Chapter VI
06:57, 17 March 2017I woke up that morning to the sound of a loud bang, like someone punching something.
I quickly got up out of bed and followed the direction from where the sound was heard from, the bathroom.
The door was open a fraction, so I pushed it to open it wider.
I peered in and I saw Mello, he had taken off his bandages, and he looked pissed at his new scars.
"M-Mello?" I whispered, afraid of what would happen next.
He turned his head slowly towards me, teeth bared and eyes narrowed.
A chill went up my spine and I was frozen on the spot.
"Why?!" He yelled, clutching the unscarred side of his face.
"M-Mello... I-it's not that b-bad..." I stammered, almost regretting the words.
"Not. That. Bad" he said slowly, comprehending what I said.
"NOT THAT BAD?!" He yelled, I flinched.
"LOOK AT ME! I LOOK LIKE A FREAK!" He yelled.
"M-Mells..." I stammered. Tears brimming in my eyes.
"Just leave me alone (y/n)" he growled.
I looked into his sorrowful blue eyes for an instant before backing out of the bathroom and closing the door.
He rested the top of his head on the base of the sink.
As I began walking down the hall, I swear I could hear Mello crying....
*time skip*
"You must really love chocolate miss" the store clerk laughed as I dropped at least a dozen chocolate bars onto the counter.
"You could say that" I smiled.
A few minutes after Mello's breakdown, I decided to go shopping for some chocolate since we were running low on them.
And because chocolate always makes him feel better.
The clerk had finished scanning the chocolates and I handed him the fee.
"Come again" the store clerk smiled as I grabbed my bags of chocolate.
I smiled politely back and walked out the store.
*meanwhile*
"Mells" Matt spoke out to the blonde sitting on the couch.
"What?" He asked a little growl.
"You didn't have to yell at (y/n) like that, she was just trying to help" Matt said, tapping away on his game boy.
"I know... but..." Mello stammered, not knowing how to justify his earlier actions.
"Why don't you just tell her how you feel man?" Matt suggested, look looking up at the blushing blonde.
"Are you on drugs or something?" Mello was quick to deny.
"Mells" Matt took a huff of his cigarette.
"I know you've had a crush on (y/n) since we were kids, you'd always get jealous and pull her away if another boy spoke to her." He said, exposing Mello.
"I did like her... but we're older now..." Mello tried defending himself.
"I can tell you still like her Mells, that's why you always loose your temper at her." Matt said.
"What are you implying Mail?" Mello was serious.
"What I'm implying is. Your afraid, your afraid of (Y/n) discovering your feelings towards her, your afraid of rejection. And your afraid of loosing your friendship with her." Matt took another huff of his cigarette.
Mello sighed and admitted defeat.
"Alright... I do like her...." Mello confessed.
"See? Was that so hard?" Matt teased, putting his game boy down on the bench.
"Shut up..." Mello blushed. Lying down on the couch.
"Well anyway, I'm heading out." Matt said standing to his feet and grabbing his car keys.
"Alright" Mello said closing his eyes as Matt left the apartment.
*meanwhile*
I reached the building of the apartment and as I walked inside the building, I saw Matt walking out.
"Hey Matt, where are you going?" I asked.
He stopped and took his cigarette out of his mouth.
"I'm heading out, I'll see you in a bit". The red head said while walking out to his car.
But as he got to the car door, I walked up to the window and Matt winded it down.
"Is Mello okay now?" I asked.
"Yeah, I had a talk with him. He's having a rest now, he hasn't had much sleep since the accident" Matt explained.
"Huh? Why?" I asked, oblivious to this fact.
"He says he's in too much pain to fall asleep, his burns still hurt, especially on his face" Matt explained.
A pang of guilt made it's way to my heart.
"Why didn't he tell me he was in pain? I would have understood" my eyes began to tear up.
How could I have not noticed Mello was in so much pain?
"He didn't want you to worry about him, and he didn't want to look weak I front of you" Matt explained.
"But it's not fair... For Mello to be in pain just to look tough" I said.
"I know, but could you promise me something" Matt began.
"Anything Matt" I said listening.
"Promise me, no matter what Mello says. don't do anything to hurt him" Matt said as he winded up the window and drove off down the road.
Don't do anything to hurt him
Matt's words linger in my mind as I tried to comprehend what he meant by that.
I could never hurt Mello, even if I tried
I turned around and walked back into the apartment building.
