Chapter Eighteen
08:15, 3 February 2020It's about 8:30 now when Jeff lifts up his hoodie. His white skin is exposed, showing a red slash across his lower abdomen, but not as I expected. When I cut him, you couldn't see the wound because of how much blood there was. Now, a mere few hours later. The wound looks like a simple cat scratch. Jeff sees my eyes widen at the site and smiles, obviously enjoying showing off.
"Well, it's about healed, so time to get a move on," Jeff says ecstatically. He's excited, which makes my stomach turn. I know what kind of things excite him, and it's not something that would normally people. My lips form a tight line and I nod quickly.
We head out of the barn and start walking through the forest. I'm quiet next to him, dreading what's going to come soon. What I'm going to have to do.
"Hey, what's up with you?" Jeff breaks the silence by asking. I look at him from the corner of my eye. I shrug.
"You know what's wrong with me," I say snidely. I hear him snicker next to me, which only pisses me off more.
"Toughen up. It's just a little blood." Jeff starts to say. "Well actually. It's a lot of blood. More than you would think would be in a body. I never get used to it. It's so beautiful. You'll see." He says and I can see his white teeth in the moonlight, being exposed by his ever-growing smile. I feel my chest tighten as I start to hear cars become closer.
After walking in the alleys of these neighborhoods, Jeff finally stops in the back yard of a white house. Not too big, but not very small either. The house has t have at least 4 bedrooms, meaning more potential people. he looks at me now, more serious than before.
"We are gonna go in through that window," Jeff says, pointing to the second-floor window right above us. "I'll go first since I know how to do it and be quiet. I'll only be a few, ill take a look around. Afterward ill pull you up. Got it?" I nod hesitantly. He climbs up the side of the house and quietly makes his way through the window. If I barely hear anything, I know the people inside didn't hear a thing. I look to the sides of me, waiting. I should run now, but I know I cant.
He's only gone for about five minutes before he whispers my name from above me. I jump up slightly and he easily somehow catches my hand. He pulls me up as if I weighed nothing, and pulls me through the window. I tumble in and he catches me against his chest. His face is close to mine, mere inches away when he smiles widely. I know what he is thinking about, what I'm about to do. I turn away from him and struggle free from his grip.
I realize we are in a bathroom, master bathroom it looks from how big it is.
"There are 3 bedrooms. Just through that door is the master bedroom. " Jeff says pointing at a door across the room. "Through the bedroom door is a hall with two smaller bedrooms, the first one out has two young ones, I'm guessing twins around the age of 5. The last bedroom is a guy, maybe around 16 or 17." Jeff looks at me, serious now. "I'm going to take the parents, demonstrate. Once one is woken up, the other one is soon after to scream and I can't have you hesitating. We can't wake the other. Got that?" Jeff finishes. I don't nod. All of this is too much. I feel him grab my face by my chin and bring it close to his face. "Do. You. UNDERSTAND?" Jeff finally says. I nod back slightly. "Good."
Jeff walks out of the bathroom door and I follow quietly behind. In the bed next to the door, I see two bodies under the covers. Jeff looks at me and tells me to stay quiet. He walks over and stands above the man. Jeff's emotion in his face changes. I slowly see him go from calm, to more serious and determined. As if he is hunting an animal. I guess in his mind, he is.
Jeff stands above the man for a while, just staring. Then finally he reaches down with his knife and sets it against his throat. The man slowly starts to move, and then finally wake up. It takes him a second and then I think it finally hits him whats going on. The breath in my throat hitches when the man goes to open his mouth to scream. The horror in his eyes makes jeff face turn to a bright smile like he is a kid on Christmas morning.
Right before the man can let out a scream, Jeff slices the knife through his throat, making the only sounds him drowning on his own blood. My eyes go wide.
"GO TO SLEEP" Jeff yells to the man.
This is happening. I'm watching a man slowly bleed out. I feel my heart start racing and I begin to feel nauseous. Jeff then starts stabbing the knife through the man's chest. He looks like he is trying to scream, but only gurgling sounds come out. Jeff's smile grows wider with every stab, and then wider when the woman next to him wakes up. He quickly gets on top of her.
"Well, it's about time! You're one heavy sleeper Lady!" Jeff says, letting out a dark laugh after. The lady only gets out half a scream by the time that jeff's knife plunges into her chest. Blood squirts out like a sprinkler all over jeff's face, which makes him laugh like a maniac. After a few more seconds of repeated stabbing, he jumps off of her and goes back to the man.
"What are you doing..." I ask in a barely audible voice. He doesn't answer me, it's like he's lost inside of his mind.
Jeff stands over the man and lifts his knife over the man's stomach, where he then drops in into him and drags it down to his pelvis. He is cutting open his abdomen. I back away slightly. Seeing all of this was a lot, but if I see the inside of this man, it will throw me over the edge. Maybe that's what he wants. I look away for a second, only to look back and see Jeff sprawling out the man's intestines all over the room and playing in his blood. The smile on his face is the widest I've ever seen it, he's like a kid in a candy store.
"Go on ahead into the teen's rooms, you know what to do." Jeff practically sings to me. He is like a completely different person. I take one last glance at Jeff before turning around and heading down the hall. The last door.
I slightly creek open the door and see a lump of blankets in the bed across from me. I take a deep breath and walk towards the boy. He looks about the same age as me. Brown hair and olive skin. A few freckles around his nose. The longer I stare at him, the more I feel myself starting to chicken out. As I twitch slightly to go back to Jeff, his eyes flash open. He's a light sleeper. His eyes go wide as he stares at me. Then his brows furrow in anger.
"What..? Who the fuck are you!" He yells at me. My heart begins to race as I realize that jeff had to have heard him. "Get the fuck out of here!" He starts to sit up. I look behind me and see Jeff leaning in the doorway. He still looks happy, but this boy seems to be annoying him. "Mom!!! DADDD!!!" The boy says as he sees Jeff in the doorway.
Jeff starts walking towards me and I notice the boy scoot back in his bed as he takes in Jeff's face.
"Sorry kid, they're a little preoccupied right now," Jeff says leaning down to get on the boys level. Jeff then looks up at me. "You know what to do," Jeff says to me. I begin to feel tears stream down my face as the boy looks at me, eyes full of fear.
"Jeff I ca--" I begin to say.
"DO IT. NOW MISTY." Jeff yells close to my face. I look back at the boy and feel more tears roll down my cheek. I begin to lift the knife above my head. The boy sticks out his hands in response to try and protect himself.
"Please. Don't do this. You don't have to do this." The boy says tears begin to fall from his eyes. I look at him one last time.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." And then I push the knife into his chest.
I didn't expect the sound he would make. Jeff did it so quietly that I was surprised when a blood-curdling scream came from his mouth. This makes me freak out from how quiet it's been, that without thinking I stab his throat. His scream turns to low gurgles and I'm met with a shower of blood across my face. I think I start to go into shock because I barely hear it when Jeff shouts encouragingly from behind me and claps.
"Damn!! I didn't expect that last part from you! You really went for it!!" Jeff's voice sounds as if I'm hearing it from underwater. I feel him put his hand on my lower back. "I'm actually kinda proud! How do you feel?" I hear him say. I only meet him with an expressionless stare. "Yeah, I kinda figured that one," Jeff says as he goes and stands over the lifeless boy. "Just one last thing."
jeff leans down over the boy and carves a smile into his cheeks, matching the one jeff wears himself. He smiles after he's done, looking down at his work. "Perfect." He says.
I don't truly zone back in until I hear a new voice. My eyes go wide at the new sound.
"Jason...?" I hear a small voice ask. My head snaps quickly, and then I look at Jeff. His eyes narrow at the young boy. Jeff walks towards him and looks down at him. "Who are you guys...?" The small boy asks. "What's wrong with my brother?" Jeff continues to look down at him with narrow eyes. The boy is too young to understand any of this. Then jeff does something I didn't think he would do. He picks up the boy and holds him in his arms. The small boy accepts it and rubs his tired eyes. I follow Jeff as he walks the small boy back to his room.
The boy's twin in sleeping in the far corner. Jeff sats the boy back down in his bed and neals next to him.
"You're probably always going to remember this night, or maybe you will think it was a dream. Either way kid, things happen to good people. And some of those things are done by me. Your parents are gone now and they aren't coming back. The sooner you grasp that the quicker you can move on kid. The police are gonna be coming soon, and your life is about to get really confusing. Maybe ill be back to visit you someday and I can help you make it easier again." Jeff finishes, the last part giving him a small smile. I know what he means by 'Visit' again.
"Are you an angel?" The kid says excitedly as he rubs his eyes again. Jeff laughs like its the best joke he's ever heard.
"No. Far from it kid." Jeff finally says and then turns around to leave. I follow after him, closing the door behind me. Jeff sees the confusion on my face. "I don't kill children." He says like it's something obvious. This makes me grow a somewhat new, but small, respect for him.
That's when we start to hear sirens far away.
"We gotta get going," Jeff says as we walk back into the master bedroom. That's when the smell hits me. Blood. so much blood.
In the master bedroom, there are organs sprawled all over the place, blood following them. Bloods all over the floor, all over the walls, even somehow on the ceiling. Bright as day, the first wall you see right when u walk in has the words 'GO TO SLEEP' written on them in blood. I gag. This makes Jeff smile.
"What? Isn't it beautiful?" He says to me. I glare at him. The sirens are getting louder. Jeff's eyes narrow now. "We have to go. Now." Jeff jumps down the window and calls after me. I jump down and he catches me, only he doesn't set me down. He keeps me over his shoulder and runs towards the woods again.
"What are you doing?!" I yell as he runs. I hear him laugh through the wind in my hears.
"I run faster." He says plainly.
While he is running, all I can do in replay all the events that just happened. There is one thing for sure. Jeff was right.
There is a lot more blood than you would expect.
