"What the fuck just happened?" Aaron questioned looking at his brother.
Nate shrugged turning to look directly at Adaline. "Can we talk?"
"No." She sighed. Adaline knew that whatever the fuck just happened with Cal was a lot but it didn't change the fact that she was pissed at Nate. "I'm going to bed."
The two Jacobs' men watched the brunette retreat to her bedroom. Nate sighed not knowing how he was going to fix the situation with her.
"Dude seriously? What was that?" Aaron once again asked staring at the pee covered floor below them.
"Just go to bed Aaron." Nate huffed brushing past his brother.
Nate woke up that morning feeling fantastic. And it felt good. Did he still have to fix things with Adaline? Yes, but at least now he didn't have to worry about his dad on top of that.
Because after an 18-year dick-swinging contest with his dad... Nate had finally won.
The truth was, Nate didn't give a sh¡t about what would happen to his dad. He did, however, care about what happened to his dad's business because, eventually, that would become Nate's business. He needed to keep it running to provide for Adaline and their future family.
And while he didn't know much about real estate... he did know there wasn't much of a market for homes built by a pedophile. Or the son of a pedophile. Even though, technically, he wasn't a pedophile, but it's not like you could argue that out loud.
Marsha seemed to be handling things well. Aaron on the other hand was not. When Nate made his way downstairs to the kitchen his mother could be seen dancing around without a care. His brother who was sitting at the kitchen table watching the scene in front of him looked confused.
"Fսck is she so happy about?" Aaron muttered to himself and Nate as the younger of the two sat down at the table.
Nate shrugged not bothering to answer his brother as he began eating the breakfast Marsha had made.
"I can't fucking watch this." Aaron spat getting up from the table and storming out of the house.
"Oh Nate!" Marsha exclaimed finally noticing that he was awake. "Come and join me!"
The Jacobs boy thought for a few seconds before listening to his mother. Marsha handed her son a class filled with some type of wine as he sat down at the kitchen counter. The two drank for awhile talking about nothing in particular before Marsha decided to go on a drunken rant.
"Whatever you do, don't marry anyone you meet in high school. Unless it's Addie." The woman began earning a laugh from Nate. "I mean it. I used to be fun. And I know you don't believe me, but I was fսckin' hot."
"No, I believe you."
"Yeah, well, could've had anything I wanted. Then I just... fell in love with your dad. Well, I'm very happy he's gone." She trailed off taking a long sip of her drink. "Do me a favor. Just... don't take your anger out on me."
"Why would I be angry at you?" The boy questioned.
"Cause you're an angry guy." Marsha shrugged.
"No, I was angry at Dad. That's very different than, you know, being angry."
"Whatever you say." Marsha chuckled sarcastically.
"And I feel like when I was angry, I had a pretty good reason to be angry."
"Okay, look, I'm not, I'm not saying angry people don't have a reason to be angry. Right?" She explained. "You hated your father. That's as good a reason as any."
"Yeah, but that's my point. My anger was directed toward him. It's not just towards anyone."
"Yeah, I don't know about that." She shook her head with a smirk.
"No, it's not. It's fսckin' specific." Nate exclaimed getting annoyed.
"Okay, look... can we just have a nice time?" The woman pleaded.
"Yeah." Nate nodded trying to calm himself down.
"Okay" Marsha smiled moving onto a new topic. "You, uh, you still seein' Addie?"
"Why?" Nate asked nervously scratching the back of his neck. He didn't want to have to explain how he fucked up their relationship.
"Mm, 'cause I prefer her to Maddy." The Jacobs woman shrugged. "Plus she's having my grand baby. You should only be focused on her."
"Well, you're in luck." Nate mumbled. He was only focused on Adaline. Did he have a moment of weakness? Yes, but he was doing everything he could to make it up to her.
"So, you're dating?"
"No, it's complicated. But we're working things out."
"Oh, well, that's good."
"Well, we'll see." Nate sighed taking another sip of his drink.
"I was, I was just terrified you were gonna get her pregnant."
"Who? Maddy?" Nate scoffed.
"She's the type that would keep it just to spite you."
"Can't really picture her being a mom." Nate replied.
"Ooh, man, I could. Especially if it meant she had the chance to screw you over for the rest of her life."
"Yeah, well, she's not having my kid."
"Thank god for that!" Marsha cheered. "Adaline is going to be the best mom. You don't need anyone but her. You need to make it up to her." She continued to ramble. "So...what happened with you guys?"
"Oh, it's complicated."
"Why?" Marsha asked looking at her son seriously.
"Um, I kissed her and Maddy's best friend."
"Shit!" Marsha laughed. "I mean I feel bad for Addie. She didn't deserve that but Maddy?" She laughed again. "Who's the cսոt now? Do you remember when she said that?"
"Yes, I do remember." Nate laughed too.
"Oh my God. I know it's not the right thing to say... but when you grabbed her after that, and you, like, pulled her ass off, I was thinkin', That's my boy. Stickin' up for his mama." Marsha said leaning over to kiss Nate's forehead.
"Yeah, it was a pretty insane thing to do." Nate nodded.
"I know, well, you know, you didn't have to go so far as to choke her."
"I didn't choke her." Nate immediately denied.
"Mmm." Marsha hummed sipping her drink.
"Mom, they dropped the charges." When his mother didn't reply Nate got even more upset. "I didn't fսckin' choke her."
"Look... at that moment, I, I wanted to choke the girl, too." Marsha joked throwing her hands up in surrender.
"Yeah, but my point is I didn't fսcking choke her, Mom."
"Okay! Don't get so upset that ya end up chokin' me. 'Cause I won't drop the charges. I'll fսckin' clean house."
"What the fuck?" Adaline questioned entering the kitchen. Both heads turned in her direction to see the scowl on the heavily pregnant girl's face.
"Addie." Nate smiled moving to get out of his chair.
"What the hell are you guys doing?" The brunette asked ignoring her ex boyfriend who was now standing beside her.
"Celebrating!" Marsha giggled holding up the bottle of champagne that she had just opened.
"Whatever." Adaline shook her head. "I'm going out. Maybe one of you would like to clean up the piss that's on the floor. It's disgusting."
"Where are you going?" Nate wondered.
"It doesn't matter." The girl rolled her eyes turning to leave without looking back at him.
Adaline loved Marsha but she was absolutely disgusted by her. She couldn't believe the things she was saying about Maddy. Adaline and Maddy had their problems but that didn't mean the Perez girl deserved what happened to her. She couldn't believe that the Jacobs woman was basically condoning Nate's abusive behavior.
This was just another thing to add to the list of things that were stressing Adaline Kingston out. If she wasn't worried about Nate then she was worried about the whole Cassie situation. And now with the new information she learned about Rue, she was worried about her too.
The brunette knew all of this stress wasn't good for her or the baby but what was she supposed to do about it? It was kind of hard to be happy and stress free when her life was a complete shit show.
As much as Adaline wanted to avoid the Howard's house she knew she needed to be there. When Lexi called her and said that they were going to have a mini intervention for Rue, Adaline knew it was important for her to attend.
So that's where she was now, standing outside of the Howard home. The teen was debating if she should knock or turn around and run. But she knocked anyway. Rue needed to get help. Adaline needed to be there for one of her longest friends.
The door opened and she was automatically greeted in a hug by Suze. "Hey Addie. How are you sweetheart?"
"Good. Suze." The brunette smiled. Even if she hated Cassie at the moment she could never hate Lexi or Suze. "Is she still here?"
"We're waiting for her to come out of the bathroom." Suze nodded leading the girl into the house. Adaline smiled sadly at Leslie. She couldn't imagine how hard this was for her and Gia.
Adaline walked over to stand by Maddy and Kat. She wanted to be as far away from Cassie as possible. It was killing her not saying anything to the blonde but she kept reminding herself that she was here for Rue. Cassie could wait.
"Ah, fuck." Rue groaned as she walked halfway down the stairs and noticed her mom. "It'll never fucking end."
"This can't make you feel good, Rue. Livin' like this. Lyin' to the people you love, bein' mean to the people you love. This can't make you feel good about yourself." Leslie scolded her daughter.
"I don't care." Rue spat slumping down on the stairs holding her stomach in pain. "Just fucking leave me alone, please."
"I know you're in pain."
"You have no fucking idea, Mom."
"Let's get back into the car, and let me take you to the hospital." The woman pleaded. Adaline couldn't help the tears that began to fall down her cheeks at the sadness in both Rue and Leslie's voices.
"I can't get clean. I can't do that shit forever." Rue cried shaking her head.
"You don't have to." Cassie suddenly spoke up. She smiled widely looking at everyone else in the room for support. "Just...take it one day at a time."
"Yeah." Kat nervously nodded while Adaline just rolled her eyes at the blonde's words of 'encouragement'.
The whole room was silent as they waited for Rue's response. Adaline knew that it wasn't going to be anything nice.
