"Look, Nate, we all make mistakes in life. We hurt the ones we love. We let down our friends, our family. Sometimes we do it out of ignorance. Sometimes it's selfishness. I am not perfect. You know that. But I've spent my life trying to do better. You have not. But it is my wish for you. I don't know how you got out of this situation. I know you didn't deserve to, but you did. And I admire whatever it took. I just hope it didn't teach you the wrong lesson." Cal spoke standing in the doorway of his sons bedroom. He had just gotten off the phone with the police who let him know the charges were dropped.
Nate scoffed turning away from his father and continuing to get ready for the Halloween party that his friend Daniel was throwing. He wanted to go talk to Adaline but didn't. Nate knew it would just lead to another argument over his relationship with Maddy.
"Wow, you look fuckin' cool!" Rue exclaimed looking over Kat's Halloween costume.
"It's, like, whatever. I think I'm gonna get really fucked up tonight." The short haired girl brushed off as they waited outside the Jacobs' house for Adaline.
"Mm. Same." Jules agreed as she nervously glanced at the house. She definitely did not want to be here right now but they promised Adaline they would all go together.
"Cool." Kat laughed.
"Hey bitches!" Adaline greeted as she opened the front door. "You all look amazing!"
"Wow." Jules exclaimed eyeing the brunette's body. Rue noticed and couldn't help the feeling of jealousy that spread through her body. It hurt seeing Jules look at someone else like that.
Adaline was dressed as a fairy. She wore a sheer purple dress that was a little too short for Nate's liking. She also had on purple wings and purple stilettos. There was a flower crown on top of her long curled brown hair. Adaline's makeup was purple as well. She used rhinestones and glitter to create little flowers underneath her brow bone while she had purple shadow on her lid.
The Kingston girl was quite happy with her costumes. She thought it fit her very well. Adaline knew Nate probably wasn't going to be happy when he saw what she was wearing but she could care less.
"You look beautiful Addie." Rue smiled looking at her friend.
"Thanks Rue Rue. You look beautiful too." She replied kissing the curly haired girl's cheek. "So should we go get Cassie and Lexi now?" The three girls nodded before making their way towards the Howard family's home.
Adaline was the one to knock on the door as the three others stood a few feet away. Lexi opened the door with a huge smile on her face. When no one commented on her outfit she sighed.
"I'm Bob Ross. The painter from PBS?" Lexi explained upon noticing her friends confused faces.
"Hey, creepy. The whole point of Halloween is to look attractive." Suze Howard called from the living.
"No, it's not." Lexi replied rolling her eyes at her mother.
"Oh, really? You do me a favor and you count how many girlfriends of yours are dressed up like 50-year-old men. Report back to me." The older woman retorted taking a sip of her wine.
"I think you look great Lex!" Adaline cut in. "Right guys?" She asked turning towards Kat, Jules, and Rue. She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion when she noticed them all staring with wide eyes at something behind Lexi. When she turned to see what they were looking at her own eyes grew wide.
"Is it too much?" Cassie asked nervously as she looked at her friends shocked expressions.
"No."
"Absolutely not."
"Wow."
"You look good Cas." Adaline smiled noticing Lexi's face fall from everyone's reactions to her sister.
The Kingston knew how Lexi sometimes felt inferior to her sister. Cassie was always the one to receive all of the attention when they were younger and it transferred into their teenage years. Adaline had told Lexi a million times that she was just as good as Cassie but the younger Howard sister never listened.
Arriving at the party the first thing Adaline noticed was the loud music and heavy smell of weed. She sighed knowing that she was going to have to be completely sober while her friends got hammered.
"To the bar!" Jules yelled laughing as she lead the group of girls towards the kitchen.
"Tequila makes me aggressive." Kat said pouring herself a glass.
"Ugh. Tequila makes me want to dance." Jules replied gulping down her drink.
"I, uh, I once took, like, ten Vicodin, and drank an entire thing of tequila, and then, I, like, blacked out for three days. But while I was blacked out, I, like, still went to school and did homework and shit. It was really weird." Rue suddenly announced.
"Well, let's not do that tonight." The short haired girl replied eyeing Rue.
"Uh, I won't. I'm... I'm clean, so we're good." Rue awkwardly chuckled.
"Wait really?" Adaline questioned.
"Uh yeah."
"Oh my god! Rue! I'm so proud of you!" The brunette exclaimed hugging Rue tightly.
"Wait a minute. I was supposed to be your chaperone. But now I'm drunk." Jules laughed.
Adaline looked at her weirdly. She didn't expect Jules to be a sloppy drunk but that's how she was acting at the moment. They hadn't even been at the party that long and she was already drunk.
"I don't, like, actually need a chaperone." Rue explained.
"Oops." The blonde giggled.
"Um, where's Lexi?" The curly haired girl asked clearly uncomfortable.
"Uh, she's... kind of hard to miss." Kat responded.
As Rue left making her way towards Lexi, Adaline heard Cassie speak up. "Wait, did you guys hear about Nate?"
"No." Kat shook her head as Jules chugged down more alcohol.
"I'm going to go dance." Adaline announced not wanting to talk about Nate.
"I'll join you!" Jules said grabbing Adaline's hand.
"Wait Addie!" Cassie called out stopping the two girls.
"What's up Cas?"
"Are you not drinking?"
"Oh um not right now. I'll probably get something later." She replied hoping she sounded believable.
Jules and Adaline spent the past hour dancing. All eyes were on them as they continued to dance with their bodies pressed against each other's moving seductively to the music. By this point Jules had gotten significantly drunker while Adaline remained sober. She didn't mind being sober. She was still having a ton of fun.
"Let's go swimming!" Jules exclaimed pulling Adaline towards the backyard.
"Wait what?"
"Yo, ain't that your homegirl right there?" Fezco asked pointing at Jules who was dragging Adaline with her.
Rue's brow raised in confusion as she watched the girl she loved fall into the pool. She quickly raced over to her.
"Yeah I'm definitely not getting in." Adaline shook her head before heading back inside to continue dancing.
"Addie have you seen Rue?" Lexi asked coming up to her friend.
"Yeah. She's outside with Jules." She replied not bothering to stop grinding on the guy she was currently dancing with. "Lex you should dance with me!"
"Um, I don't know about that." The Howard girl laughed.
"Please!" Adaline begged giving her friend some pretty adorable puppy eyes.
"Fine! But you better not laugh at me."
Lexi began awkwardly moving her body to the music not noticing the slight smirk on Adaline's face. After watching Lexi struggle for a few moment the brunette grabbed her friend's hips and helped guide them to the music. When Lexi still didn't get the hang of it the two laughed but Lexi was soon distracted.
"Rue? Rue? Rue. What happened?" Lexi spoke stopping the curly haired girl who was quickly storming towards the front door.
"Um, I'm a burden." She mumbled.
"What?" Adaline asked curious to know what was going on.
"Yeah. Um, I'm sor... I'm just... I'm a burden, and it is what it is, and it's embarrassing, and it's stupid, but, um, it's true. So, I'm sorry."
"No, don't say that. You're not a burden." Lexi scolded. She couldn't believe Rue would think that about herself.
"Who the fuck told you that?" Adaline asked pissed off. She didn't like seeing Rue so upset. "Was it Jules? Because I may not be the best fighter but I'll beat her ass for upsetting you."
"Okay woah! You're not fighting anyone." Lexi cut in.
"Rue! What's wrong?" The three turned their attention to the soaking wet blonde.
"I think we're gonna head out." Lexi announced.
"No. No, it's just 'cause you're not dancing with me." Jules said grabbing Rue's hand.
"That's not it, Jules." Rue spoke.
"Jules, you're soaking wet, and really drunk." Lexi eyed the blonde.
"You're dry. And dressed like Bob Ross."
"Okay, I think we're gonna go."
"Don't be fucking boring. This whole town is so fucking boring. I don't care." Jules laughed taking a large gulp from her cup.
"Chill out." Adaline glared at Jules. She wasn't in the mood for the blonde's drunkenness. She had already upset Rue and now she was being a bitch to Lexi for no reason.
"Uh, would you like to go with us, Jules?" Rue asked politely only to be ignored in return."Okay, well, then, how are you gonna get home?"
"I don't know. And I don't care."
"Okay, let's go." Lexi suggested grabbing Rue and Adaline's hands.
"I can't... I can't fucking leave her." Rue sighed as she watched Jules begin dancing with some random people.
"She's being a bitch but I agree." Adaline nodded causing Lexi to huff frustratedly. "She shouldn't be left on her own. There's clearly something wrong with her. I don't know her very well and even I can tell that her behaviors not normal."
"Fine we'll stand against the wall and watch her until she's ready to leave." Lexi said annoyed.
"We'll I'm going to go back to dancing with that hot guy over there." Adaline smiled pointing towards the tall blonde that was talking with some friends.
Lexi and Rue watched as the brunette sauntered over to the boy. His eyes lit up at the sight of the girl in front of him. She didn't even have to ask and he was agreeing to dance with her.
Adaline moved her body against the boys muscular one. His hands gripped her hips as they moved to the beat. She knew he was a football player which is exactly why she picked him. Adaline knew dancing with one of Nate's teammates would piss him off. And that's exactly what she wanted.
"What the hell is that?" Lexi asked as her and Rue heard cheering. It wasn't long until that cheering turned to full on chanting.
"Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate! Nate!" The party chanted as he and Maddy made their way into the party.
The brunette rolled her eyes continuing to dance. She watched as Nate led Maddy into the kitchen and lifted her up onto the counter. His eyes connected with hers before he leaned down and smashed his lips against Maddy's.
Adaline scoffed turning around and connecting her lips with the blonde boys. He immediately responded kissing her back hungrily. She could feel his hands move down and grasp her ass firmly causing her to moan.
After a few minutes the brunette pulled back and looked up at the blonde boy. She wished it was Nate kissing her and holding her. "I'm sorry. I have to go." She mumbled walking away. She couldn't believe how stupid she was. Adaline knew she just fucked up. Nate was going to kill her.
