Why?

11:23, 12 November 2024

Anger and rage coursed through Andrew's veins the entire ride home. Silence filled the air yet you could sense the hurt in Andrew. Lexi made small talk here and there, grasping at any chance to see the Andrew she knew before. But he was long gone, far away from the chaos of his life now.

About halfway through the ride, Andrew stopped for gas. While he was at the pump, Lexi spent her time in the store browsing for snacks. As she turned into the next short aisle, a man around the age of 30 turned to her with a friendly but creepy smile. Lexi politely smiled back and stepped to the side to get out of the man's way.

He stepped with her and wouldn't let her leaves the aisle. The moment she turned back around he grabbed her by the wrist. Lexi desperately needed help, but who was there to help her? The half-asleep cashier who couldn't even see her? Herself? Her ex boyfriend...

Andrew finished pumping the gas and went back into the store to grab Lexi. As much as he would've liked to just ditch her that wasn't an option. He went inside and looked over the shelves only to see a dark haired man standing dangerously close to a girl who had blonde hair like Lexi's. Andrew leaned up against the shelf to hear their conversation.

"If you say anything you're done for, it doesn't look like anyone's here to help you." the man said. Lexi whimpered but stayed strong, "How do you know no one's here?" Lexi knew she was bluffing but deep down she had a sense that Andrew would come. The guy just laughed, "Just come back to my place, it'll be okay."

"What is it that you want from me?" Lexi asked. At this point Andrew couldn't just stand and listen. He walked up and was met with the scared, big eyes of his ex and the look of the man threatening her. "Get your hands off her." Andrew said, reflecting his mean stare.

The man hesitantly backed away, not sure if it was worth the fight. He ultimately decided to leave with a sigh either with disappointment in himself or anger at Andrew. Lexi looked up at Andrew with the loving look she used to give him and said, "Thank you Andrew, I had a feeling you would come and help me." Andrew scoffed, "Don't flatter yourself."

Lexi then silently payed for her snacks and got back into the car with Andrew. The whole ride back, Andrew could feel Lexi's stare, it was almost like she was trying to burn a hole with her eyes. Then, at a red light, Andrew snapped, his eyes filled with rage. "Look what do you want from me? You leave me heartbroken and then sit here looking at me with those eyes. You need to pick. I'm not going to be dating or even friends with someone who plays with my emotions like this. You didn't even tell me why we broke up."

Lexi looked at her feet, "I guess things just happen." Andrew grew angrier, "What do you mean things just happen?! This didn't have to happen, you didn't have to do this. Don't give me some bull shit excuse, if you're not gonna own up to it I don't want to hear it at all." Lexi thought for a moment, "Fine, here's the truth. After I heard about Ben cheating on me I spiraled. I thought since you and Ben are so similar that you would cheat too with Brianna. I thought maybe Jeremy wasn't lying."

Without a word, Andrew hugged Lexi tight. They sat there for a minute before Andrew kissed her cheek and whispered, "Lexi, me and Ben may be the same, but something he did that I will never do is cheat. I love you, can we please get back together." Lexi started to cry into Andrew's shoulder and in between sniffles she replied, "Of course Andrew, I'm sorry."
