The Switchup

11:55, 12 October 2024

Brent woke up on the couch of the lake house dazed. Jeremy's head rested on his legs while Dom sat on the floor. Red cups and streamers surrounded the floor, making getting out almost like a maze. Everyone had left by this point and Brent began to walk up to his room to clean off the gross smell of alcohol and sweat. He hopped into the shower, letting the warm feeling encompass him.

He got out and began scrolling on his phone mindlessly until a funny video of Andrew's tiktok popped up. He needed to show this to Andrew because it was a TikTok from so long ago that he probably forgot about it. He barged into Andrew's room to find the bed empty and surprisingly made. Then he went into Lexi's room, still nothing.

His headache from his hangover didn't help anything and as dizziness took over he could do nothing but sit down. He reached for his car keys that he usually put on his dresser after showering but they weren't there. He went down and shook Jeremy until he half woke up.

"Jeremy! Have you seen my cars keys?!" Brent said, frantically trying to remember the events of the night before. "What no bro Andrew took them, let me sleep." Jeremy said, falling asleep as he spoke. "Okay whatever but I'm taking your car to look for him."

Brent drove and saw his car in the gas station closest to the lake house. He parked a couple spots over and saw Andrew looking out his window at Lexi who was asleep in Andrew's car. Brent knocked violently, "Dude! What are you doing just sitting here!" Andrew seemingly woke up from a daze before rolling down his window, "Look, Lexi found out Ben cheated last night and she went alcohol crazy."

"Okay well I'm waking her up, she's not gonna sit here all day." Brent said, turning to knock on her window. She woke up suddenly to see that she was under the eyes of her boyfriend and her brother. In her car were bottles of beer and tequila, reminding her of the horrible bomb that was dropped on her the night before. She rolled her eyes and opened the door.

"What? I get it I drank okay? You do too."  Lexi said, picking each of the bottles up. "That's not why, I just wanted my car back but I couldn't since Andrew, over here, stayed all night in my car waiting for you." Brent said, pointing at her.

Lexi looked at Andrew, "Oh okay I see, Andrew come in here so Brent can have his car. Andrew hopped out and they began driving away. "No how I am supposed to get Jeremy's car and mine back!" Brent screamed as they zoomed away. Lexi couldn't stop her laugh, "He should've been nicer."

The rest of the car ride was filled with lingering laughter until there was silence. The vibe between them was different, like a string of their connection had been broken. Lexi parked in the lake house driveway, already anticipating the mess in the house.

Lexi sighed and turned to Andrew, "So you really waited there for me all night?" Andrew smiled like a little kid in awe, "Yeah I couldn't help myself." Lexi smiled but it seemed like she was covering up something. "You're so cute." Andrew couldn't help the small blush that creeped up his cheeks.

They got out the car and Andrew stopped her in the porch. "Are you okay? I know a lot happened yesterday." He grabbed her shoulder and pulled her into a hug. She took in his smell before replying, "Yeah it just...sucks. You know?" Andrew smiled sympathetically, "Yeah but it's okay because you have me now!" They both laughed before walking inside the jungle of trash. Dom and Jeremy were walking around, helping pick up some of the alcohol stained cups and sweeping papers into the trash.

Emma and Brianna were still upstairs, probably getting their "beauty sleep." However when Lexi went to check on Emma, she wasn't sleeping at all. In fact, she looked wide awake, her eyes so wide like she had seen a ghost.

"Emma, what's wrong?" Lexi asked, confused. Emma jerked up, "Oh my gosh, Lexi I am so sorry for what I told you yesterday! I've been so worried I didn't know what happened after I told you. I was so stupid I'm so sorry." Emma said, the words coming out so fast that she knew they were true. "I'm okay, just a little hangover." Lexi smiled. She liked the new Emma, the one who didn't let Brianna influence all her decisions.

They didn't even bother to check on Brianna, she was probably going to somehow start drama while she was half asleep. Lexi and Andrew sat on Andrew's bed, packing up his clothes and talking.

"I love you so much and I'm sorry that happened to you my love." Andrew said, reaching out to hold her. His touch was comforting but at the same time, a sting of hurt came with it. "I love you more." Lexi said. Andrew frowned, "What no not true, I love you wayyy more." Lexi's smile dropped, "Fine. Equal."

Andrew laughed before picking her up and placing a well needed kiss on her lips. Lexi smiled but again, it dropped. "Babe, what's wrong? You've been in and out of it for so long." Lexi frowned like she didn't like the words about to come out her mouth.

"Come on you can tell me anything you know that." Andrew frowned, sad that she didn't feel comfortable enough to tell him. Lexi's eyes never left the floor as she tried to respond. Every attempt to talk was met with silence.

"Andrew... I love you so much I do, but we need to break up." Lexi said, emotionless, like she was hiding the hurt behind a wall. "Oh. What did I do wrong? I can fix it I promise." Andrew slightly smiled hoping for another chance. "No you can't, I'm sorry Andrew. I'll leave you alone now."

She walked out quickly. Andrew couldn't believe he'd lost the love of his life like that. How could she switch up like that?
