06:56, 18 February 2022-Moments earlier-
Rin sat on the couch, sulking as he waited impatiently for you to return. He had just tucked his kids into bed after a fun night of watching movies and eating junk food— it wasn't so bad, he loved the moments when he got to spend time with his babies. Still, something was lurking in the back of his mind.
You.
Truthfully, you hadn't left his thoughts since the moment you walked out the door. He spent the majority of the night curiously troubled about how your little 'date' with Atsumu was going— it wasn't until he received a text from the blonde, a video of you rumbling with a woman who appeared to be your sister, that he wasn't only concerned about petty things such as his own jealousy.
He needed to know what was going on with you, and more importantly, he needed to know that you were okay— though he was certain that you weren't by the nature of the fight, even with such little context.
Leaning back into the couch, he ran a hand through his dark hair out of frustration. The only thing he could do was wait for you to arrive. He hated this, not being in control of the situation— even more infuriating, not being able to be in control of his feelings. He closed his eyes, attempting to silence his deafening thoughts.
It was funny— the man who seemingly cared so little, maybe cared a little too much... well, about the things that mattered anyways.
To Suna Rintarou, that list was hardly existent, except for a few things that meant the most to him: his kids, his family, his friends, volleyball... and as of lately, you.
Just as he started to drift off, the doorbell rang. He perked up, assuming it must be the two he was expecting, though he did wonder why you were using the doorbell instead of the spare key that you acquired upon starting your work for the Suna's.
"Why didn't you just- " he froze the moment he saw who was standing before him after he had opened the door.
It was Mei, his ex-wife.
She was... crying?
"Rin." She sobbed, big fat blubbery tears rolled down her puffy cheeks. "I'm sorry for showing up unannounced like this, but I didn't know where else to go."
His head was spinning. What was going on, and why was she here, crying at his doorstep? He looked at her flustered state— her hair and clothing was dampened by the light drizzle that was taking place outside, cradling her swollen belly in her arms.
He couldn't very well leave his pregnant ex-wife out in the rain, regardless of how he felt about her. So, he invited her inside.
She sat herself down on the couch as she glanced around the place that she used to call home. It had been a while since she'd been back here, longer than she'd like to admit, regret soon sinking in once she spotted the toys scattered around the living room.
"Where are the kids?" she asked through languid sniffles.
"Asleep." He responds, coldly. He's ready to get to the point. "Why are you here?"
She looks down at her belly, running a hand over top of it before she starts to cry once more. "Hiro... he kicked me out."
Hearing the man's name tumble from her lips stung something fierce. Suna despised it ever since he found that it belonged to his wife's lover. Hiro Suzuki— what a stupid name.
"Why? What happened?" He couldn't deny that his curiosity was certainly piqued.
Avoiding his gaze, she mumbled something inaudible under her breath.
"Hm?" He asked again.
"It's not something I'm ready to talk about right now." She says, after a brief moment of silence. "I just wanted to ask a favor... I know that I'm not exactly your favorite person right now, but you know I don't have anywhere else to go..."
"Mei, you've gotta be fucking kidding me." He knows what she's about to ask, but he really hopes that she doesn't.
"Rin, I need a place to stay. Just for a few days until I can find somewhere else... or until Hiro cools off a bit." She looks sullenly as she says that last part, but nonetheless, she continues.
"Please Rin, I promise, I won't stay long."
"Honestly Mei, that's the problem. I don't want the kids to get used to seeing you here everyday, just for you to disappear again once you make up with your boyfriend."
"It won't be like that. I told you I wanted to start taking them on weekends, and I meant it...Please." She begs again, desperation laced all throughout her pleas.
He takes a deep breath, hesitantly teetering on the fence about whether or not to agree to let her stay. On one hand, he wants to tell her to fuck off and slam the door in her face, but on the other hand... That's his ex-wife, the mother of his children— he can't very well leave her with no where to go, especially while pregnant.
"Fine."
After unlocking the door, you opened it quietly, not wanting to disturb any sleeping Suna's. Atsumu's follows closely behind, heavy feet stomping loudly without a care in the world. You lightly smack his stomach in attempts to shush him, before you notice the light on in the living room.
The two of you make your way over, spotting a pretty a pretty blonde pregnant woman seated on the couch, with matching mascara stained cheeks. They notice you instantly, the four of you now staring each other down, awkwardly exchanging glances back and forth.
Mei is the first to speak, remembering you from your brief encounter at the park. She notices your fancy attire, as well as Atsumu's— though, what throws her off is your sticky, disheveled, clothing and ruined makeup.
"Hello again." She attempts to smile through her tearful expression. "I'm sorry to interrupt, if you all had plans."
"Mei, good to see you again." Tsumu says, his tone condescending and bitter.
She simply scowls at the man, not even bothering with a response. You can see that there's bad blood between them, surely in defense of his heartbroken friend.
"We had a fun night, huh darlin'?" Atsumu continues, swinging his arm around your waist teasingly. Panic sets in for Rin, remembering the lie he told to his ex-wife at the park about your 'relationship' status. He certainly didn't want her to find out that he made it all up, that would be too embarrassing.
"I thought- isn't this your girlfriend, Rin? I know we only met once but I wouldn't forget such a pretty face." She asks timidly, though you weren't sure if her innocent demeanor was all for show or not.
Atsumu's grip tightens, realizing he may have said the wrong thing. Though his attempt to back track wasn't much help either...
"You didn't let me finish, I was saying, we had a fun night at your families house... Love visiting the good ol' L/n's— yep. Great people. Her pops is my sugar daddy."
Your eyes widen with shock, while he can't help but laugh at your embarrassed expression. Sure, that last part wasn't necessary, but he couldn't resist.
"Good bye, Tsumu." Rin says stoically, arms folded tightly across his chest, showing off his muscular biceps in his short sleeved t-shirt.
"What? I was just kiddin'— fine, I'm going." He responds, Rin's scowl never wavering as Atsumu gives you a hug goodbye and heads out the door.
It's just the three of you now, even more awkward tension enveloping the space around you as you all just stand in silence— none of you knowing what to say, and definitely not wanting to be the first one to say it.
After another moment, you decide you need to get out of... whatever this was, and fast.
"I'm gonna go get changed, excuse me." You speak softly, making a break for it up the stairs.
It's just Rin and his ex-wife once again, no less uncomfortable than it had been the first time. It's Mei who speaks up next, an expression so desolate that even Suna can feel the nature of her emotions.
"I- I didn't realize that you two were living together." Tears begin to well in her eyes, but she tries her best to keep them at bay. "So, it's pretty serious then? You and her..."
He can't deny that it hurts him to see her like this. He's always had a soft spot for her tears, especially when he was the cause of them, but he had to stay strong.
"Yes, it's serious."
That's all he says, no more, no less. Until he tells her to wait for a moment while he goes to prepare the spare room for he to sleep in for a few days. He gives her two days, tops— urging that he won't allow a longer stay than that. Ultimately, he was proud of himself for standing his ground.
The only problem was, the spare room was already being inhabited by 'the nanny.' What was he going to do? The answer was simple, but he wasn't sure how you'd feel about it. Especially after the way he had left things with you...
He trudged up the stairs after you, hoping that you'd be willing to keep up his ruse.
You stared at your appearance in the mirror, completely disgusted at how grotesque the aftermath of that champagne shower you received earlier made you look.
You began to peel your soiled dress off of your sticky skin, when suddenly the door to your room swings open, Suna stands there wide-eyed and blushed as he unintentionally caught you with your dress pooled around your ankles.
"Oh my god!" You shout, grabbing the nearest item to shield your exposed body, which luckily enough was a large blanket that you swiftly wrapped around your body. "What the fuck?!"
He shushes you abruptly with a rough hand over your mouth. You mumble your curses and gripes underneath his palm, but he remains steadfast in his attempt to keep you quiet.
"You have to sleep in my room."
"Mmpf?!" You ask— well, attempt to ask. Somehow, he understands your muffled question.
"I'll explain later, but you need to hide your stuff... just, put it in my room for now. I'll distract her downstairs while you do it. Hurry."
He lifts his hand away from your mouth, and before you can even mutter a single word about it, he's gone and out the door.
You take a second to think about it, but ultimately you do what he asks. As much as you'd like to complain about sleeping in Suna's room with him, you can't really bring yourself to completely oppose the idea. After all, this would give you a chance to get some communication flowing between the two of you.
You hurriedly begin stuffing you things into whatever containers and bags you can find, and begin shoveling it into the other room. You can hear them making small chatter from down the stairs as you make your transfer from one room to the next, until you've seemingly gotten everything within sight.
He makes a quick glance at you from the corner or the stairs, to which you shoot him a thumbs up to let him know you've done what he's asked of you. After the signal, you close yourself in behind the door of his room, seating yourself on the bed as you take a good look around.
You'd never really stopped to look at his room in such immense detail. The only time you really got the chance was that one time, but admittedly, your focus was definitely elsewhere that night.
It was pretty plain— a tv, a dresser, a nightstand that housed an adorable picture of the twins... there wasn't much to it really. You ran your fingertips across the silky sheets, remembering how good it felt to be pressed against them.
Suddenly, you hear muffled conversation from outside the door, not quiet making out what was being said, until Suna opens it. "Good night." He says, before shutting the door behind him.
You look at him, confused, waiting for him to fill you in on exactly what's going on. He gives you the short answer first, before going into much detail.
"Mei was kicked out, she needs a place to stay. You know what that means, right?" He studies your expression as he says these words, hoping you'll remember the situation at hand.
Still, he's quick to remind you in any case.
Making his way over to you in long-legged strides, he hovers over your body as he leans down, caging you in against his mattress.
"For the next two days, you're mine."
