001

The sun shone brightly through your window, rays of light dusting your pretty face as you sleepily opened your eyes. Like clock work, you woke up at seven in the morning, your body awakened and rearing to get the day started.

You had always been a hard worker. Organization and order being some of the most important lessons instilled in your head at a young age. Despite this, your choice of career wasn't one your parents had ever imagined that you would choose, and it certainly wasn't one they approved of.

Becoming a caretaker was something that happened on a whim when you took a babysitting job as a teenager one summer to make some extra money. You fell in love with it. It allowed you to explore a more nurturing side of your personality that you had buried deep inside of you.

It was something you lacked from your parents, who only cared about good grades, being the best, the most successful... rarely ever did you receive actual love from them. Not even a hug.

You could literally count on one hand the amount of times they had told you that they loved you.

This was something you wanted to do for yourself. Fuck what your parents had to say about it. You made damn good money and you were proud of yourself. That was enough for you.

Sadly though, because of this, your parents haven't spoken much to you in years. They put all their time and effort into your younger sister, who was in college studying Law like they had always wanted you to do.

You rejected the idea of the 'family business.' It just consisted of shady lawyers and business deals, gross, stuck up rich assholes who felt entitled to anything that their money could buy...

It truly disgusted you.

You were glad to be rid of that lifestyle. It never interested you. Still, toxicity seemed to follow you in other ways. That was something you couldn't seem to escape.

You grabbed the phone off of your nightstand. There was only a text from your best friend, Kiyoko and a missed call from your boss. You frown as you realize that your boyfriend had read your text late last night, but never responded. Unfortunately, this wasn't a rare occurrence.

You groaned as you lifted yourself up off the pillow and dialed your boss's number. Hopefully it was good news, you could really use it right about now. You held the phone lazily up to your ear and waited for the line to pick up.

"Good morning, (Y/n)!" The cheerful voice of your employer, Ms. Fukuhara or 'Mama Fu' as she preferred, rang through your ears.

"Good morning Mama Fu." You responded back, slightly less enthusiastic since you had just woken up, but you were always happy to hear her voice.

She was more of a mother to you than your own, and the two of you had gotten extremely close ever since she had hired you three years ago.

"How are you, dear? I hope you're doing well." She continued, soon getting straight to the point of her phone call. "I called to ask if you wanted to take on a new client!"

"What kind of job is it?" You asked curiously, your interest piqued.

"We received an email about a young father in search of a nanny for his six year old twins. One boy, one girl."

Seems easy enough.

"He's a Professional Volleyball player, so he's a very busy man. He requested a live-in caretaker so that he won't have to worry about arranging anything if he has to leave on short notice. Is this something you're comfortable with?"

Well, this was new territory for you. You had never taken a live-in position, let alone for a professional athlete. What would Yuji think? You living in a house with another man, taking care of his kids?

You shook off the thought. This was your career, and if you decided to take the job, he would just have to be okay with it.

"It pays extremely well." Mama Fu cooed, as she could sense your hesitation by the lack of response.

"Alright, I'll take the job."

It wasn't just the mention of money that made you want to take it. You knew all too well what it was like to be raised by parents who were always busy with work. The thought tugged at your heartstrings. If you could be there for them when their father couldn't, maybe it would make the sting a little more tolerable.

"Fantastic! I'll let Mr. Suna know that we've found him a wonderful caretaker." She praised, excitedly.

"Thanks Mama." You chuckled into the phone. You really loved that woman.

"I'll send you over the details. He needs you to start as soon as possible. Preferably tonight. Think you can manage that?"

Tonight? This was such short notice. Plus, you were supposed to meet your boyfriend for dinner this evening... but, seeing as he still hasn't responded, you figured you could get away with canceling this time.

"Yeah, shouldn't be a problem." You responded, before saying your goodbyes and hanging up the phone. You decided to send Yuji a quick text to let him know you would have to cancel.

Yuji ❤️

YouHey love, you still out?read 1:37 AM

YouJust wanted to let you know that I have to cancel our date Got a new client, he needs me there tonight It's a live-in position btw...K bye

Short and sweet, to the point. If he wanted more details, he could ask for them. Yuji wasn't exactly in your good graces right now, so you didn't really care about how you broke the news to him.

You closed out your messages, getting up and heading to the bathroom. You had a lot to do in such a short time, so you might as well get started.

You jumped in the shower after it had warmed up, letting the water run down your back as your mind became lost in thought.

You though about Mr. Suna. What kind of man was he?

Was he kind? Was he stern? Is he a good father?

Is he handsome? He must be in great shape if he's a professional athlete-

Not that it would matter, of course. You have a boyfriend, and this was strictly a professional matter. You couldn't let your thoughts go there.

You refused to be anything like your father, who would constantly cheat on your mother with any young, gold-digging woman that crossed his path.

You were loyal to your relationship with Yuji, even if it was a rocky one.

You finished washing up, wrapping the towel around your body as you exited the bathroom. You swiftly got dressed and began packing up your necessities.

You couldn't quite put your finger on it, but for some reason...

You were oddly excited about this experience.
