Chapter 20

07:23, 21 September 2013

"Good morning, beautiful," Cody said.
I slept in Cody's room that night. "Good morning." I frowned. " I don't wanna leave today."
"I know," Cody played with my hair. I nestled my head into the crook of his neck. I was almost in tears.
The door opened. "Shannon, get up! We needa leave in thirty minutes," It was Meredith.
I moaned.
She walked over, grabbed one of my legs, and pulled.
"Stop," I groaned.
"Shannon!" She yelled.
"Meredith!" I yelled. "Cody, do something."
"Alli!" Meredith yelled. "I need back up!"
Alli rushed in. "Aww, but they're so cute."
"Snap out of it, Alli," Meredith said. "Help."
After five minutes, they finally pried me out of bed. I then went to take a quick shower and pack.

"You ready?" Meredith asked. It was red around her eyes, probably from crying.
I sighed and nodded.
We went downstairs and to the car where everyone else was. I put my stuff in the trunk.
"Goodbye, Brad," I went over to hug him.
"Bye, Shannon," He hugged back. "Nice seeing you."
Tom walked over.
"Goodbye, Tommy," I said kneeling down. I hugged him, too.
"Bye," He responded.
Meredith and my mom took turns saying 'goodbye' to Tom and Brad, also.
Tom and Brad both weren't coming to the airport with us. The rest of us piled into the car. Cody and I sat in the back, Meredith and Alli sat in the middle, Angie driving, and my mom in the passenger's seat.
I cuddled in the car with Cody all the way to the airport. Neither of us spoke, too sad to say anything.

The airport security let Cody, Alli, and Angie through to the place where we would board our plane.
"So, um, I wanna give you something," Cody said. He took me to a more secluded area of the airport. He took something out of his pocket. "Hold out your wrist." I did what he told me. It was a bracelet with a simple silver circle on it. "It matches mine." He held out his wrist.
"Thank you, Cody," I said. I gave him a hug. He gently kissed my neck. I picked my head up off his shoulder and looked at his eyes. A tear rolled down my cheek. He whipped it away.
"Promise me you'll call or text or Skype me everyday," I said in-between sobs.
"I promise," He said, tears forming in his eyes.
I kissed him. His put his arms around my waist. I put my arms around his shoulders. We stood there, embracing each other.
"Now boarding flight number 1618 to Des Moines, Iowa," The airport intercom said.
"You gotta go," Cody whispered in my ear.
I sighed. I kissed him one last time. He grabbed my hand and we walked toward the rest of our group.
I let go of Cody's hand and hugged Alli. "Bye," I told her, trying to hold back my tears.
"Bye," She quietly said.
I went over to hug Angie. "Goodbye. Thank you for everything."
"Goodbye," She said. "You're welcome. Thank you for coming."
"Of course, anytime," I said.
I went back over to Cody and hugged him again. He squeezed me tightly.
"I love you," He whispered into my ear.
Those words hit me and made me tear up. "I love you, too," I managed to get out.
Cody looked me in the eyes. "Call me when you land."
I nodded. I hugged him one last time. "Goodbye, Cody."
"Bye," He said.
I grabbed my suitcase and I left to board the plane, with one last glance at Cody.

We landed a couple of house later. I checked the time. It was 1:28pm. I decided I would call Cody when I was actually at my house.
I figured it'd take awhile to get the plane hooked up to the airport. If you've ever been on a plane, you know what I'm talking about. So I took out my phone and went on Instagram to see what my friends were up to. Christina went to some party, Sarah went to the movies, ect. I stopped at a photo Cody posted. He took a sneaky picture of me walking onto the plane. The caption said 'Missing her already.' I liked the picture, but I couldn't comment anything. I scrolled down some to find that Alli had posted something, too. It was her in tears. The caption said 'Goodbyes are the worst.' I agree, they are. A tear rolled down my cheek.
"You may now exit the plane. Thank you for flying with Delta airlines," one of the flight attendants said.
I looked over at Meredith, who sat in the seat next to me across the aisle. My mom sat in the seat behind me. No one sat next to me, I got lucky. All three of us got up from our seats and exited the plane. We grabbed our suitcases and walked to our car.
We sat in silence for the first half of the car ride.
I noticed something.
"Hey, Meredith?" I asked.
"Yeah," She said.
"Look," I held out my wrist with the bracelet Cody gave me. "We have the same bracelet. Did Alli give it to you?"
She nodded.
"Aww that's cute. We all have the same one," I said. It made me smile for the first time since this morning.

We reached Meredith's house and dropped her off. Then my mom and I drove home.
I went up to my room and immediately called Cody.
"Hey," Cody answered.
"Hey, babe," I said. "I'm home."
"Good," He said. "I have to leave tonight to fly to Ireland for my tour."
"Oh, wave 'hi' when you fly over Iowa," I giggled.
"Yeah," He laughed.
It went silent.
"I miss you," I whispered into the phone.
"I miss you, too," He whispered back.
I wanted to cry.
"Skype me or something when you get to Ireland," I said.
"Of course," He said. "I have to go get on the plane."
"Okay, well, bye," I said.
"Bye," He said. "I love you."
"Love you, too," We both hung up.
I could just kick myself for how awkward the conversation was. I plopped down on my bed and sighed. I knew this was a stupid idea. This was so much worse than Post Concert Depression.
