A KotLC FanFic

Written by Sophia

Introduction

This story will be written between two POVs.

It is pronounced LEE-NUH and AY-VUH

That is literally all I need to tell you.

Enjoy!

Oh and most of the characters belong to the wonderful (except for when she writes cliffhangers that make me want to tear my hair out) Shannon Messenger!

[Edit: This is editing Sophia, I am coming back to this story after like half a year and I am preparing for the worst. This story is now officially under renovation:/]

Tallahassee, Florida

Lena Banks

"LENA!" my seven year old sister yelled, leaping onto my bed and landing on top of me and sticking her green eyes in my face.

"What Tess?" I moaned, crawling under the covers, wishing I never had to wake up.

"What do you mean what? Your school starts in ten minutes!" she screeches, punching the lump I created under the mattress.

"It does?" I practically screamed as I bolted out of bed and to the bathroom. I turned on the sink and formed a ball of water and with the flick of my hand, splashed it on my pale face.Β

When I was 5, I was at a summer camp in Virginia with my best friend, Kate Dizznee. We did absolutely everything together. One day this bully shoved Kate into the water. Everyone started screaming because Kate couldn't swim. I somehow parted the water and a counselor ran in and saved her. Everyone just stared at me and I looked plainly back at them, unaware of how I completed the feat. Kate had whipped out this shiny little contraption and used it like a phone and a guy in a silvery jumpsuit arrived moments later. No one remembered the next day. I've had this "ability" ever since then and been forced to keep it a secret.Β

After brushing the tangles out, I quickly wove a small braid through my sandy brown hair and then brushed my teeth and threw on a t- shirt and some black gym shorts. I jumped down the stairs going two at a time and flew into the kitchen almost knocking into my dog, Bailey. I grabbed a banana from a wooden bowl on the counter and made for the door. Tess waved goodbye as I sprinted out onto my driveway yelling, "WAIT!" The bus driver rolled her eyes but kept the door open. I took a deep breath and stepped onto the bus. I quickly found Kate and took the open seat next to her.

"Why do you look like you just ran a marathon?" Kate said laughing.

"Because I pretty much did, Tess woke me up like five minutes ago." I said out of breath, rolling my dark green eyes. She laughed her airy laugh, her periwinkle eyes shining. Kate's strawberry blonde hair was weaved into two, tight, french braids.

"Can you come to my house after school today? My mom will make mallowmelt!"

"Yes! I haven't had mallowmelt in weeks! Sure, I'll just have to ask my parents when I get home." Mallowmelt is this gooey goodness that Kate's mom makes. Kate lives with her mom and her dog Bernie. Her dad died in a car accident when Kate was 6 and Kate has become like a sister to me. We met in Kindergarten when I was sitting on a bench crying for no apparent reason. Kate came over and comforted me and we have been friends ever since. Your typical best friend origin story. We arrived at school and we walked to our lockers.

"What is your first class?" Kate asked me. I didn't respond, I just stood there with my mouth hanging open. "What?" Kate asked, looking concerned.

"T-That b-b-boy looks exactly like y-y-you," I managed to say. Kate followed her eyes and paled when she saw the boy. She went from shocked to furious in a matter of seconds.

"Excuse me. Can you wait for me over there?" She asked, her jaw clenched.

"Sure?" I went into the cafeteria and waited at a bench for her. I found a table with no one at it and pulled out my phone. "Come on!" I heard as I looked up five minutes later and saw Kate dragging the boy from earlier by the ear. "Take my hand Lena," she said, pulling me into the abandoned hallway. Classes were to start in four minutes and people were already in the classrooms.

"Why?

"'Cause I said so. Just take my hand."

"But why?" I push.

"Just do it please. You trust me right?" she asks, looking in my eyes.

"Yeah, always," I mumble.

"So concentrate on holding my hand."

"Why Kate? You're starting to freak me out" I said, grabbing her hand and looking between her and the boy who was muttering stuff under his breath which sounded a lot like curse words. She didn't respond. She just pulled a little necklace with a purple crystal on the end out of her pocket and slid it over her head and onto her neck. After looking around to check for any stragglers who were late to class, she held it up to the light coming in from the window and it created a path of fuzzy glow. She grabbed the boy's hand and looked at me and only said two words.

"Trust me." Then she pulled all three of us into the light and we were whisked into nothingness.

Chicago, Illinois

Ava Collins

I trudged down the halls of my school. The bell had just rang for the day and I was headed to detention. Again. As I walked past people grabbing their books from their lockers I sighed as I heard them whisper things like, "Freak" and "Purple Eyes". I was used to them but today I just wasn't having it. I had already been yelled at six times, four by my father, once by my mother, and once by my history teacher, Ms Barnes. I counted my steps to the room where detention would be held today, pushing my golden colored hair behind my ear. I counted 342 before I reached the detention room.

"Miss Collins!" my teacher shrieked, causing me to flinch slightly. "You are late!" Wow, I didn't notice. I thought sarcastically.

"I know," I said, rolling my eyes slightly at her pitch of voice. "I am very sorry Ms Leroy it won't happen again," I lied.

"Very well Miss Collins. If it does happen again. you shall have detention for the rest of the school year." I gave a quick nod.

"Thank you Ms Leroy." I turned and went to find a seat. I sat down in the back to try to avoid attention but somehow I always managed to catch it. Every single pair of eyes turned to face me and there was a surprising amount of kids in detention. I opened my book and started to fake read, I had become a master at that. I looked up about five minutes later and one person's gaze was still laid upon me. A pair of ice blue eyes. The boy had messy, disheveled blonde hair. He noticed that I was staring and smirked. He threw a paper airplane at me and somehow didn't catch the attention of Ms Leroy's hawk-like eyes. I bent down to pick it up and carefully unfolded it to find a messily written note inside. It read;

Ava,

Meet me outside after detention behind the school.

-Someone

I looked up and he grinned at me. I gave him a scrutinizing glance in return, my nose scrunching up as it always does when I am thinking hard. I felt a spark on my hands and cursed under my breath. I quickly extinguished the spark by forming my hands into fists, hoping no one noticed.Β

When I was five, I was at summer camp in Virginia and we were at the campfire eating S'mores. I sat alone, I knew absolutely no one at the camp and no one wanted to be my friend, and was watching the other kids curiously. I finally gained the courage to stand up and select a marshmallow to roast in the burning fire. I made my way over to the campfire and grabbed a marshmallow, the biggest one I could find, and slid it onto a stick and hovered it over the fire. I heard kids whispering about my eyes but I simply ignored them, my gaze fixated on the marshmallow which was slowly gaining a crisp, dark color around the edges. I hadn't even realized my shoe was untied until it was too late. I took a tiny step forward and me, being the clumsy person I am, tripped over my undone shoelace. I put my hand down to stop my fall and it stopped me from falling into the fire but it burned my hand. I was rushed to the nurse's office, my hand still somehow on fire. The nurse, (one that looked highly untrained) left me with my hand burning to go grab some water which she did not have in her room. I started to panic. Suddenly my brain thought to just collect the fire and "poof" it away. I did what my brain told me to do, and the fire followed my commands. I was so shocked I nearly fell off of my cot.Β

I decided to keep it a secret, who would like a person with purple eyes and fire powers, and ever since then I could control fire. No one knows to this day. Anyways, I wrote back a reply and threw it back at him, hitting him in the back of the head. I went back to "reading" my book, wondering what he could want. I glanced at the clock every thirty seconds and it felt like time was moving slower than a snail. Finally, detention was over. I collected my books and looked around. The boy was gone. I went to the back of the school and found him talking to someone on a little square thing. As if he could sense my presence he looked up and gave a soft smile which made my heart switch to hummingbird pace. I immediately mentally hit myself. Boys were stupid.

"Gotta go!" he said into the square. He hung up like it was a phone and turned to look at me.

"What do you want?" I asked, getting straight to the point.

"You are Ava Collins right?"

"What's it to you?"

"Ooh a feisty one. Take my hand." I looked at him like he was crazy. Perhaps he was.

"Excuse me but did you just ask me to hold your hand?" I asked incredulously.

"Yes and concentrate on doing that." He took out a necklace with a red crystal on the end and held it up to the light. It created a path of fuzzy glow. He held out his hand and I backed up.

"I-I-I don't even know you. What is this?"

"Just do it, trust me." I gave him my best I-will-kill-you-if-I-get-hurt look and cautiously took his hand and he pulled me into the light. I got so scared when we went into some sort of portal that I almost forgot to concentrate on holding his hand. I quickly focused on that and kept asking myself over and over, "Is it over yet?" When we reappeared I stumbled backwards. Why did I trust some creep stranger I didn't even know? I don't care if he's hot, he's a lunatic! I thought to myself.

"Wh-w-what just happened?" I looked around and released a breath I didn't realize I was holding. "And what happened to Chicago?"

Everglen

Lena Banks

"Where did you take me Kate?" I said doing a 360 to look around. There was a beautiful house that looked unreal right in front of me. There was a giant golden gate that was about 15 feet tall and its shimmer was blinding. I turned to Kate and repeated my sentence. "Where did you take me Kate?" I said, my voice cracking despite my will for myself to sound calm.

"Lena, this is Everglen, home to the infamous Vackers," she said, rolling her eyes at the name.

"And... how... who... what...why..?" I stuttered trying to find the perfect question. Suddenly, next to me, there is a girl and a boy standing next to me. I flinch away. The girl has golden blonde hair and.... Purple eyes? The boy next to her has messy blonde hair and ice blue eyes. The girl's eyes are wide while the boy is just smirking down at her. Two more kids appear next to them. What the heck is happening? The other girl has blonde hair and brown eyes and the boy has chocolate brown hair and piercing teal eyes.

"Ok, what the heck is happening right now," I say, voicing what the other three must be thinking.
