"i am very honored tonight to be here" he said as he took the microphone from the table, "i was so happy when i received a letter in the mail, inviting me to your wedding" he looked down at the brides

"i was always rooting for you two, and i can't be any more happy for you two. you ladies are each other's world, and i can't believe you finally tied the knot. suho owes me fifty bucks" he chuckled and everyone else did as well at his small joke

"i bet that you two would get married within the next five years, he bet you two wouldn't get married for another ten years. well i guess i won" he laughed at his own story and the crowd ate it up

"when i think of true love, my mind will always think of you two ladies. a hundred years ago i would still think the same thing. so i want all of us to raise our glasses..." he waited for everyone's glasses to raise

i looked at the glass in front of me and realized it wasn't champagne in it, but a red liquid

"soonyoung..." i muttered as i looked at the glass in front of me, "it's okay, just don't drink it" he whispered

i gulped down and took the glass in my hand, raising it a bit

they just had to be vampires, not werewolves or witches. vampires. god, i hate the idea of drinking blood...

"...and i want to wish these two ladies an eternity of happiness and love, cheers" he smiled brightly and clinked his glasses with sana and tzuyu

i turned to soonyoung and the other men at our table and also clinked our glasses and when i turned back to look at kai

he was staring at me as he drank from his glass

holding eye contact for a few seconds

he raised his glass a little as he looked at me, saying cheers from far away

it made shivers run down my spine and made my hands start to sweat

"hey" soonyoung drew my attention away from the man staring me down, "give me your glass, i'll drink it"

i chuckled, still a bit disturbed at his stares

"i believe it's time for the first dance" he said over the microphone, a smirky smile on his face

"you noticed, didn't you?" seungcheol asked his younger brothers

they were all in seungcheol's study. the aura of the room was quite dark. they were discussing important matters concerning the mafia group that is after them and areum

"whenever one of us goes somewhere, someone is always following us" seungkwan said, his eyes fixated on the ring on his pinkie

"and when we go with areum, there's at least three people following us. they're trying to get to her and they aren't making it very subtle" he continued, standing up from his seat with a sigh

for the last few weeks, since areum and seulgi had their falling out, people have started following and stalking them. the guys were sure they were gongmyung's people and they were very wary of it

"where is she now" wonwoo asked this time, his voice was evident with worry and concern. "she's with soonyoung" seungcheol glared at him

they were all still quite angry with wonwoo for what areum did for him. some were even a little jealous, wanting to be the ones to taste her blood. it was a selfish thing to wish to taste and they knew it, but they were still vampires and some needs and instinctive wants aren't in their control

despite never wanting to hurt her, subconsciously, they still wanted to taste her

"and mingyu's on his way to the wedding as well" he finished. wonwoo nodded his head at seungcheol

"we should get her out of here now. they are waiting for a moment of weakness to get her" seokmin spoke, his voice was harsh when he spoke. it was quite a contrast to his usual soft kind voice. whenever they were speaking business, his voice always changed. he becomes serious and his usual smile isn't on his face anymore

"they know she's our weakness and they're going to take advantage of it" he said, "if they get their hands on her, they're going to blackmail us into sacrificing ourselves to save her"

what seokmin was speaking was the truth. if gongmyung's people got their hands on areum, they were going to torture her and make her feel complete agony. they would hurt her

just the thought of someone hurting areum makes them go ballistic

"after today..." joshua started, "we should move somewhere else" he sipped on his drink at hand. it was a fine red wine he had been stashing for years in their cellar. he had always loved his fine wines and keeps many of them on hand. he flew over that one wine bottle from seoul, just to enjoy it for a few minutes

"but it shouldn't be all of us, that would arouse suspicion" he continued, "...so who's going with areum?" he asked and looked at all of them expectantly

all of them shared a look of uncertainty

like they know this would end up with a quarrel

-areum's pov-

"areum!"

his voice sent shivers down my spine the moment i heard it

his voice always does that

since i met him just a few months ago

his voice was sluggish and i could smell the alcohol on him even thought i was a few feet from him

i had wandered to the bar to fetch soonyoung a drink. he had asked me to bring him gin and that i shouldn't worry because he'll be watching me

i turned my head over to see kai with a drink in his hand, sitting on a stool

the brides had already danced with each other and a few hours have passed. soonyoung and i danced a few times and i had made small talk with other people there, of course with soonyoung by my side the entire time

i felt unsafe in a place full of unfamiliar vampires. if i was alone i would probably be freaking out

i could feel the stares of a few of them

being the only human in the place does get its stares from the other people here

"kai, hello" i muttered and bowed slightly

i could feel my hand trembling against each other

"why are you being so formal?" he sluggishly said

he was clearly intoxicated from his mannerisms and strange behavior

he's usually so formal and classy. he has an aura of a god but right now that aura was nowhere to be found

"sorry" i chuckled nervously

"come sit down with me, have a drink!" he cheered as he pat the seat next to me and signaled for the bartender to serve me a drink

i looked over to see if soonyoung was seeing what was happening. but he was only talking to the men in the table

but before i could draw his attention, kai grabbed my arm and forced me to sit down. it felt like he was trying to be friendly with me but it didn't really come off that way

"you know if you turn into selene now, you'd be considered a child bride" he laughed out loud, bringing his drink to his lips

"a-actually" i chuckled nervously, i was uncomfortable with the situation. he scares me. "i'm over eighteen, so i'm of legal age to marry" i looked down at my hands. they were still trembling. his very presence it terrifying to me

the bartender put a glass in front of me and started pouring the same drink kai had in hand

i'm not drinking that. i looked at the glass with disgust, i've never really had any interest in drinking alcohol for fun. i've only ever wanted to taste it, that's it

i've seen girls break down at my old school, i would overhear them talking about how bad their parents drinking was and how it was destroying their lives. i felt bad for those girls

i slightly turned my shoulder to look at the man by my side

despite heavily intoxicated, he still looked neat. his hair was still done well and his suit was still clean and straight. the only reason i knew he was drunk was because of the smell and his behavior

"whatever" he slumped down on the bar counter and looked up at me

but what he said before brought up questions in my mind

"kai" i mustered up the courage to say. he hummed at his name, "what would trigger it? what would make me become selene?" i said in a small voice

the people in the background and all the loud music from the dj made my, already small voice, harder to hear

he thought about it for a second before he spoke.

"anything"
