Chapter 17 |S a m a n t h a s p o v

The next day...

•AT SCHOOL•

"Attention all students in 11th grade please report to the Auditorium at once." A stern voice said on the intercom quickly before it clicked off.

I look around the crowded halls to see multiple students with faces that look just as confused as I mine does. Everyone quickly stops what they're doing and starts making their way to the auditorium. I close my locker and follow the crowd of people.

As soon as I walk into the auditorium I'm yanked to the side and pulled towards the back of the big room.

"What do you think this is all about?" Jace asks while anxiously scratching the back of his head.

I shrug breaking out of his tight grip. "I don't know."

"Well hopefully we're just here so that they can tell us they finally got rid of Ms. Hagged for feeding us that trash she calls lunch everyday. " Jace smirks.

I softly chuckle at his joke thinking about the horrible food Ms. Hagged cooks up everyday. I know school lunch isn't exactly supposed to be a five star meal, but it's like Ms. Hagged goes out back and brings in trash and slaps it on a plate. It's disgusting.

"The things you say sometimes kill me Jace." I say still laughing.

"I know they do." Jace grins.

I roll my eyes. I scan the room looking for a spot to stand that is closer to the stage. When I realize there's no more space, I sigh just deciding to stay where I am in the back.

Jace crosses his legs and leans his elbow on my shoulder as we both focus our attention to the pale skinny lady in a colorful sundress walk onto the stage and tap the microphone testing it before speaking.

"Hey I'm Ms. Shay, the new the fundraising manager. I know how teens are being a mother myself so I'm not gonna talk you guy's ears off. I'll be straight forward. I'm going to be planning all dances and field trips for now on. And to get you all pumped that I'm here I've already planned a spring formal that's taking place here in two weeks-"

Ms. Shay is interrupted by students gasping and squealing with excitement. A hint of nervousness flushes through me. I look over my shoulder at Jace who seems lost into a deep thought.

I pull a strand of his dirty blonde hair and he stands up straight.  "Yeah?" He asks grinning like he just won the lottery.

"You okay?" I ask smiling a little.

"Yeah, um, I'm great. I just made a decision and I'm really proud of it." Jace beams.

"That's great. I'd ask what decision you just made but I'm too worried about whether if Billy is gonna ask me to the spring formal or not." I shrug nervously.

Jace's mood shifts and a defeated look comes over his face. He nods. "Cool." Jace says blankly.

I tilt my head in confusion. "How is not knowing if your crush with ask you to the dance 'cool'?"

Jace shrugs. "I don't know."

I nudge his elbow. "Stop being sad and give me advice." I laugh.

Jace sighs and shoves both of his hands into his pockets before looking into my eyes. "Look Sam, Billy will ask you to the dance. If he doesn't some other guy will because you're all kinds of amazing and super fun to be around. So chill out and stop stressing about it. Just be patient. And if you be patient and no one asks you, just know that somewhere out there you have a secret admirer who's just waiting for their chance to come out and tell you how they feel."

A smile spreads across my face. "You're the best. Thanks a lot. I needed that." I say wrapping my arns around Jace's torso and hugging him tightly. We let go and Jace smiles softly.

"I'm just doing my job of being a good friend." Jace shrugs.

"Okay now that I'm chill I want you to tell me all about that decision you made that had you beaming just a few minutes ago." I grin.

Jace runs his finger through his hair nervously. "What decision?"

I laugh a little. "The one you were just talking about?"

Jace sighs. "Oh that, I changed my mind about it. It's not quite time for it to be made anymore. It kinda hurt letting it go but I'm fine."

"Are you sure you're fine?" I ask softly.

Jace smiles and nods. "I'm totally fine."

Just as I was about to question his happiness again Ms. Shay finally gets the attention of the students and continues speaking:

"So my helpers will be passing out flyers and posting details about the dance on the schools' website. But if you have any further questions about the dance feel free to ask me. Have a nice day guys."

And with that Ms. Shay walks off of the stage and everyone starts to depart from the auditorium chattering about the dance.

Jace wonders off to go mingle with his popular friends and I head to my first period class.

On way my to class I bump into Billy and he catches me off guard by pulling me into a hug. We Break away and he smiles at me, so I smile back. "Hey Samantha!"

"Hey." I say. I can feel myself blushing.

"We still on for that date tomorrow?" Billy grins.

"What date?" I ask still blushing.

"The date we planned like last week." Billy laughs.

"Oh that date! Yes we're still on. I'm really excited." I say.

"Me too. Can you be dropped off at my house? My parents won't let me use the car." Billy awkwardly laughs, clearly embarrassed.

"Uh sure. I'll get a ride." I say nervously.

Billy smirks. "Perfect. I have something really important to ask you tomorrow."

Before I could respond Billy walks away leaving me with mixed emotions. I can't believe I forgot got about my date with him. I guess I've just been having such a good time with Jace lately that the date totally just left my mind. But anyways, I hope whatever Billy plans on asking me is nothing less of an invite to the Spring formal.
